September Holiday Holidays

September holidays from the UK combine the best of summer — reliable heat, blue-flag beaches, long evening light — with the reality of autumn pricing. Once the school holidays end, the same resorts that were packed in August become genuinely pleasant: shorter queues, calmer pools, cooler afternoons that make sightseeing possible again. The Mediterranean is at its warmest in the sea, and long-haul options like the Maldives and East Africa are outstanding. Every September holiday package sold through Travelodeal is ATOL protected and backed by our ABTA membership, so your money and your trip are covered from the moment you book.

On the first weekend of September, something changes. Families clear the beaches. Hotels and operators reprice their remaining availability. The shoulder season begins — and for those without school-age children, it is a genuine opportunity.
The sea temperature around the Mediterranean peaks in September; it is actually warmer in the water than it was in June. Daytime temperatures across Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, and southern Spain typically sit in the mid- to high-twenties — warm enough for full beach days without the punishing heat of August. Yet the price differential from peak week can run to hundreds of pounds per person. That is the fundamental case for September travel.
Couples, solo travellers, and groups of friends consistently find that September suits them better than high summer on almost every measure: fewer children in pools, quieter restaurants, more availability at popular restaurants and excursions, and a generally more relaxed atmosphere at the resort.

The season's picture is uneven in the best way. Short-haul Mediterranean is the obvious starting point: Greece, Turkey, the Canaries, the Algarve, Majorca, Menorca, Cyprus, and the Spanish mainland are all excellent in September, and most of them remain so well into October.
Long haul opens up some compelling windows. East Africa's dry-season safaris — Kenya and Tanzania — are wrapping up their peak, which means good wildlife sightings and availability without the premium that July and August command. The Maldives is a strong option from mid-September as the risk of Indian Ocean swell reduces. Egypt is comfortable once again after the blistering heat of July and August; Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada in particular suit families and divers returning to the Red Sea.
For those drawn to India, September is a shoulder month — the monsoon is easing in most regions, prices are very competitive, and the famous golden light of October is not far away. Flights tend to be well-priced compared to the winter season peaks.
