    Great Front Desk

    rating09 Nov 2022

The hotel is very well located, nice basic breakfast and the rooms were basic but clean! The front desk was very helpful. Arel was especially helpful, our thanks to him.Online reservations were easy and pre-arrival requests were answered.

Cheap but too old and not comfortable!

So, the location was too good, that's right. The price also fine, but the rest - mmm, not really. Our room was too old, when air ventilation was working it was so noisy that we could hardly sleep, even had feeling that it will burst now and kill my friend who was sleeping under it :)The breakfast - horrible, almost nothing. And have to mention that our friends room was fine, so you should demand good room and ask to change if you get those ones on the oldest floor.Check in check out procedures were fine and overall normal, but more bad then good.

2-5/1/19 We arrived (directly from the airport after traumae of finding a working and reasonable ATM then a bus ticket machine taking large notes - no-one wants to change a bank issued 500!) on Wednesday 2/1 at around 11:00hrs to find a smart lobby with a dour but efficient male receptionist who checked us in early (no check in times specified on Hot.c) and we were shown the lift (two available) to our fifth floor room 501.On entering there was a large wardrobe to the left with only three hangers(not enough for three people) with a combination safe inside. A neat double bed and made up sofa bed were in the main room with a wall mounted desk and bedside table each side of the large double (with plain, too small sheets). The clean sheets, pillows (and later the towels) were labelled with TPH. Each bedside table had a bedside lamp by it with one switch having a round euro / triple-double socket by it. The other socket under the desk was a triple flat socket. Both needed adapters and luckily I had a quad USB adapter to cope with our devices. On arriving (early), the room was not quite ready with towels but it was all was clean and better than expected despite some bad reviews. A nearby chambermaid offered us a set of towels which we took. There was a large window with a juliette balcony overlooking the road and offices opposite (a bit disconcerting when coming out if the shower). The curtains were quite diaphanous so did little to keep the morning sun out. There were not enough wall hooks for hanging clothes which was annoying as we tend to wash clothes in the shower or sink and need to dry them out.Noisy fan (not rotating) can be turned off by bed (found that out after first night of switching all electrics off with card so devices did not charge). The A/C system was quiet and efficient. The fan had two integrated lamps in it which were operated from the door wall (along with a lobby ceiling lamp) and all were working. The 32 inch LED wall mounted TV had no English channels unfortunately. The wifi in the room (log onto 5th floor transmitter) was good on our first day but declined thereafter so we ended up in the restaurant or lobby to pick up a more reliable signal (albeit erratic connection so probably a city-wide problem). We ended up ordering a glass of wine each with a sweet (membrillo slabs) cheese (slabs) and delicious slab of almond ice cream all for only £4. The view of the street was not inspiring as was the (Warner Brothers channel) Keanu Reeves film on the lobby TV but the wifi served us well.On the second evening my friends also sat in the restaurant on the more reliable internet, having a beer (80), wine (50), a broccoli tart (100) and a pastel de papas (170) (which turned out to be meaty so my veggie friend was a bit peeved). The shower, toilet, sink and bidet are in the same room and the floor does not slope into the central gulley so it takes ages wiping the standing water down the hole (so add 5 minutes to shower time) so the door has rotted as a result and the room can get very humid and the A/C works overtime to cope - not a good design. Very quick got water. The high combi tap spout is difficult to jet water from to clean razors as it sprays everywhere. A hair drier was supplied plugged into the three pronged socket by the basin with the light switch close by (to typical unsafe standards). The large oversink mirror had two lights above it for shaving and makeup. The holes and rawl plugs below the mirror indicate a previous shelf existence so there was nowhere except for the sink to put three peoples' toiletries. There were no glasses supplied although a good selection of sachet toiletries were.Breakfast (07:00 to 10:00) was unlimited buffet for 140pesos of a basic selection (strawberry yoghurt, cornflakes, white & brown toast, butter, pastry croissants, sweet croissants, sweet cakes, fruit salad, urn filter coffee and tea bags and hot chocolate and milk) but suited us fine (as veggies we avoided the plastic ham to have the basic cheese). It was topped up for late comers and we got our money's worth with a leisurely breakfast our first morning. We chose to skip it on our second and third morning as we concentrated on lunch instead. Each day the cheerful chambermaids offered to replace towels and toiletries. We only needed one change and asked for the room not to be made up whilst we were away. Two lifts, yes you do have to open two sliding gates and close on leaving to allow lift to work for next user. It was not too noisy despite being opposite the door although one heard the comings and goings of fellow guests down the corridor. Nighttime was quite peaceful. On reflection the lift mechanism was quite noisy, especially in the morning as people left, but we got used to it.On our penultimate day the room internet access was awful. I had to sit in the hall outside the room. My friend went to the lobby where apparently it was full of people trying to log on. This made plans to meet friends, look for (low charging) banks and booking ahead really difficult. This may have been a city problem as the economy is in crisis and not a hotel problem. We are hoping to get a 4G SIM for the month we are here if that improves the situation (it certainly did as I am finishing off the review on the last morning before a rather early specified 10am checkout). As one of us had a dental emergency we had to stay in BA till Monday for the operation (at the free Faculty of Dentistry a few km away). On searching Hotdotcom we found the Hotel Parada to stay at a couple of km to the south west which included breakfast.

Have been there twice and there will not be a third time. Neither internet nor TV in the room, uninterested front desk and shabbiness everywhere. Close to the buquebus but it is not in a pretty street. They should seriously consider taking out Palace from the name

Very clean, weak WiFi signal in room and street noise

    rating04 Oct 2017

I booked the Tucuman Palace based on location and price. The location is extremely good, about a 15 minute from the airport bus station and 10 minutes to the ferry to Uruguay. Plaza de Mayo was about 15 minutes walking and Florida street 2 blocks away. I felt safe walking in the neighborhood at night. The hotel was very clean. The towels and sheets were a bit worn, but both were changed daily. They didn't just make the bed, the put on new sheets every day. The breakfast was good. Always bread, croissants, ham, cheese, cold cereal coffee, and juice available. the apple juice was ok, the orange was processed and not great. Some morning there was pound cake and sometimes a bowl of fruit cocktail. For 80 pesos it was a much better deal than what was available outside the hotel. The two elevators were old and still had doors you needed to manually shut. Both were always working, though sometimes they were very slow and sometimes you had to watch your step coming out as they weren't quite even with the floor. Tucuman is a busy street at all hours and there was a parking garage opposite the hotel so you constantly .had traffic noise and various chirps from car alarms. The windows were not adequate for noise suppression. There was only a curtain on the windows and one of the heavy pull down shutters so light was an issue at night since I chose not to mess with the cumbersome shutter. My room was at the end of the hall and the WiFi signal was weak and sometimes not available. If you needed something printed, you could email it to the hotel and they would print it for you. Not all room have a safe, which in Buenos Aires is a requirement for me. The first room I was in did not have one, so I needed to use the safe at reception. They switched me to a triple room the next day that had a safe at no extra charge. The hotel staff was friendly, though some spoke no English. Bottom line is the Tucuman Palace is dated, but for the price, that is expected. I had the option to switch hotels when my stay was extended which I considered because of the WIFi, but I figured for the money and effort required, the Tucuman was still ok.
