    Highly recommended!

    rating25 May 2026

From my arrival, I was greeted by friendly faces, smiles & a warm welcome & even had my esky (ice box) carried upstairs to my room! The room itself was totally adequate for my 3-night stay, complete with kettle, toaster, hair dryer & a hot ‘halo’ shower! It was spotlessly clean & had a comfy bed — a real treat for a motel — with electric blankets (though I don’t use them) & a view to the east made for spectacular sunrises! An easy walk to a fantastic selection restaurants & cafés & only a little further to walk to the National Gallery, et al. Being so centrally located, I was pleasantly surprised (read:relieved) at how quiet it was!I think it’s real value for money considering one can walk to so many places, depending upon one’s mobility & fitness level.Overall, I think Forrest Motel & Apartments has a great atmosphere. The staff seemed happy, which I think says a lot about the proprietors & how they operate their business. I would highly recommend this place to others & know I’ll return in the future. Thanks for a great stay! 😊

    NIGHTMARE STAY

    rating23 May 2026

NIGHTMARE STAY: Total Disrespect and Extortionate ManagementIf you are travelling with family—especially toddlers—STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. What was supposed to be a convenient family getaway turned into a stressful, inhospitable ordeal from the moment we crossed the threshold. The Check-In DisasterWe arrived to a literal hazard zone. There was a pool of water flooding the kitchen floor, a broken oven, and a single, pathetic roll of toilet paper that was 90% empty. When the receptionist finally graced us with her presence, she confirmed the dishwasher was actively leaking and summoned maintenance. For over an hour, two maintenance guys took over our living space. We were forced to clear out our belongings and corral two restless toddlers into a corner while water warped the floors and chaos reigned. The worst part? They couldn't even fix it. We were told the dishwasher was completely stuffed and out of commission indefinitely. The First Betrayal:We specifically booked an apartment so we could cook our own meals and use the dishwasher. When we begged for another room so our family could actually enjoy our holiday, management flatly rejected our request. We spent three agonizing days without the basic amenities we paid for.The Petty $30 ExtortionThe absolute audacity of this establishment peaked on our final day. At 9:00 am, I called to ask for a modest, one-hour late check-out (11:00 am) to help manage the kids. Given that we lost hours of our first day hosting a construction crew in our kitchen, you would think a reputable hotel would waive the $30 fee as a gesture of goodwill.Instead, they dragged their feet for nearly an hour, only to call us back with an insulting counter-offer: a mere 15 minutes. When the stress of rushing to leave boiled over, I asked the receptionist for her name and her manager’s name to file a formal complaint. Her response? A chilling statement that hotel policy forbids employees from disclosing even their first names. What kind of reputable business operates under a total veil of anonymity? The Final InsultWe rushed out and checked out at 10:16 am. Less than an hour later, we realised we had left a book and two bottles in the room. With my family waiting in the car, I ran back up, knocked, and slipped inside to grab our forgotten items. A manager spotted me leaving.Instead of asking if I needed a hand, or—heaven forbid—finally apologising for the disastrous start to our trip, the hotel took the opportunity to strike. Without a single word or warning, they slapped my credit card with a $30 late check-out fee.The Verdict: Cold and CruelThis hotel has its priorities completely backwards. They offered zero apologies and zero compensation for ruining the primary utility of our room, yet they were predatory and lightning-fast when it came to squeezing an extra $30 out of a stressed-out family. The service here is ice-cold, unwelcoming, and completely devoid of human empathy. Do not give them your money. Dorothy Barclay, Owner at Forrest Hotel And Apartments, responded to this review Dear Daniel,Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your stay didn’t meet your expectations. We would like to clarify a few details to ensure an accurate understanding of the situation. Our team attended to the dishwasher issue immediately on arrival and offered both a repair at a time convenient for you and an alternative apartment, which was declined. We also provided additional amenities throughout your stay to support your comfort.Regarding check‑out, our standard time is 10am. We offered a complimentary grace period, and although the room was vacated later than agreed, we have chosen to waive the late check‑out fee as a gesture of goodwill. Our staff always aim to provide friendly and respectful service. On this occasion, a team member felt uncomfortable sharing her name due to the tone of the interaction, and we supported her decision. We appreciate your time and wish you and your family well. The Forrest Team
