    Could be a nice hotel....

    rating24 May 2026

Stayed here for a week so got a real opportunity to test the place out. Check-in was quick and easy with staff being friendly. The room is spacious and had everything you could ask for. The wifi was fast and easy to connect to. The TV was a smart tv and allowed you to login to streaming apps which is really nice to see. That's unfortunately where the positives end. The bed was 2 singles pushed together with no mattress topper so if you like sleeping in the middle of the bed it's very uncomfortable. The shower is over a bath and has terrible pressure. The temperature was very sensitive as well. You move the tap by a single millimetre and you go from frozen to lava hot. The hotel does have a pool which is nice but it's in a weird location. To get to the pool you go to level 1, down the fire exit to a different level and through a sketchy looking corridor and then you'll find what I can only describe as what a pool would look like in a Soviet bunker!

    Don’t bother

    rating25 Feb 2026

There was no one at reception when I first arrived but someone came shortly with a plate of food they had got from the restaurant. The room smelt musty on entry and when I went to bed I discovered the sheets had stains on them. As it was late there was nothing I could do so I covered them up with towels that also didn’t smell fresh. Not a great sleep I must say. They didn’t seem overly worried when I told them on checking out. Didn’t ask me to send the photo or take details!

Serious Lift Malfunction and the Lack of Emergency Response by the hotel

    rating19 Dec 2025

The lift suddenly malfunctioned and dropped from level 6 to below ground level. This was a terrifying experience and could have caused serious injury.During the incident, I pressed the emergency button and the alarm was ringing, but no hotel staff responded. There were no staff present at the hotel at the time. I had to call my friends myself to look for hotel staff.Even after the receptionist arrived, the hotel was unable to take any action. I was left waiting until Canberra emergency services attended. This highlighted a serious lack of emergency preparedness.Emergency situations require proactive planning, not reactive explanations. A proper emergency plan should be immediate, well-trained, and prepared for worst-case scenarios. What if I had a heart condition? What if an elderly guest or a child had been in the lift? What if someone had been injured during the lift drop?Relying entirely on third-party contractors without an internal emergency response places guests at risk. Safety incidents like this should never be treated as routine. After the incident, I only received a verbal apology. After many follow-ups, a small gift card was offered, and the case was closed without proper review. Given the seriousness of the situation, this response was disappointing.Guest safety should always come first. Unfortunately, this experience left me deeply concerned about how emergencies are handled at this hotel.

A great place to stay in a great location.

    rating06 Jul 2025

This hotel has had some negative reviews of late but I’m perplexed as to why. It’s a great place to stay and has everything you could need.Sure the rooms may be a bit tired/dated but this does not impact your stay negatively at all.Do not let the haters put you off!We booked a 2 bedroom apartment and it was great. 2 bathrooms, washing machine and dryer, dining table, microwave, full fridge and mini fridge, a lounge suite/sofa bed too and a king & queen bed. The room was made up every day and the housekeeping staff took on board our requests (extra towel, not to re-make the bed etc). The buffet breakfast was plentiful and nice. It isn’t a 5 star dining experience by any means but it has all your breakfast staples and was an enjoyable start to our days. We were all full up every morning!Yeah the entrance/exit to the parking garage is tight, but if you do it slowly you’ll be fine. We found the Mantra on Northbourne a great place to stay in a fantastic location with shops and food options in abundance. We would stay again in a heartbeat. Elan Koirala, Guest Services / Front Office at Mantra on Northbourne Canberra, responded to this review Dear AustraliaJetsetter,Thank you very much for your thoughtful and positive review. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay in our two-bedroom apartment and that our housekeeping team was able to accommodate your requests. We appreciate your kind words about our breakfast and location, and it’s great to know you found everything convenient and comfortable. We also understand the parking garage can be a bit tight, so your tip about taking it slowly is very helpful!Thank you again for choosing Mantra on Northbourne Canberra. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit.Warm regards,Elan KoiralaFront Office ManagerMantra on Northbourne Canberra

Can’t Believe This Is A Mantra

    rating08 Jun 2025

I’ve stayed at several Mantra hotels before and have become accustomed to a certain standard, but Mantra on Northbourne Canberra was a huge letdown. One of the most frustrating parts was the surge pricing. While we were looking at booking options, we watched the price go up twice in just half an hour. When we called the staff to try and lock in a price, they seemed uninterested and not particularly helpful. They asked us to sign up for their loyalty program so they could lock in the pricing, but when I signed up, they actually quoted me a higher price than what was being shown on the website as their standard rate. When we pointed this out, they just told us to book it on the website instead. We booked three one-bedroom apartments, and from the moment we arrived, the place felt tired and neglected. The rooms were dated with worn-out furniture. One of the rooms even smelt like cigarette smoke, and all we were given was some air freshener to deal with it. The bathrooms weren’t properly cleaned, and the shower pressure was barely a trickle. We also asked if they could do a better rate on the daily parking since we had three vehicles, but they simply said no and that was the end of the conversation—no effort to help or provide any flexibility. To make matters worse, on our second night we returned to find the car park completely full. When we raised the issue that we had paid for parking and there were no spaces available, the staff couldn’t have cared less.Despite the reasonably high rate, there was no servicing of the room during our stay, and the tea, coffee, and towels provided were VERY minimal. For what we paid, this felt really disappointing. There’s also an extensive list in the room of what NOT to do to avoid setting off the fire alarm, because if you do, you’ll be charged $1400. Included in this list were things like dust and cooking fumes—apparently, even making a simple meal could trigger the alarm. Here’s an idea: clean the place properly so there’s minimal dust, and install proper ventilation so the alarm doesn’t go off.The street noise made it hard to sleep, and overall, the experience was far below what I expect from a Mantra property. For the price we ended up paying, I expected much better.Honestly, I can’t believe this is a Mantra property. I won’t be returning, and I’d recommend looking elsewhere if you want a comfortable and fairly-priced stay in Canberra. Elan Koirala, Guest Services / Front Office at Mantra on Northbourne Canberra, responded to this review Dear Chris,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback following your stay at Mantra on Northbourne Canberra. I’m sincerely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations and that we fell short in multiple areas during your visit. Please accept my apologies for the issues you encountered with booking, communication, room condition, and service. What you’ve described — from the inconsistencies in pricing, to the condition of the apartments and the parking situation — is not reflective of the standards we aim to uphold. I also understand your frustration around the handling of invoices and the lack of responsiveness from our team.Your comments on the fire alarm notices, cleanliness, and amenity shortfalls have been noted and will be discussed with both our housekeeping and facilities teams to address immediately. Additionally, your feedback around flexibility and staff engagement highlights the need for further training to ensure guests feel supported and valued.I would like the opportunity to follow up personally and ensure your remaining invoices are sent to you without further delay. Thank you again for your candid review — we take all guest feedback seriously and use it to improve. I hope we can restore your confidence in the Mantra brand in the future.Warm regards,Elan KoiralaFront Office ManagerMantra on Northbourne Canberra
