    Terrible service by upper management

    rating13 Apr 2026

We were travelling to Cobar to stay at the motel which is our usual place to stop overnight coming from Qld to SA usually 2-3 times per year. This year we had an accident outside of Westmar Qld where our trailer came unhitched and took off into the verge on the opposite side of the road standing vertically We were in a no reception area and it took us about 3 hours to get it all back on the ground and to make out way slowly to St George. As soon as we got the I called to copper city motel to advise that due to the accident and needing to get the trailer fixed there was no way we were going to be able to make it there Not only did the reception not cancel our booking (this I know as we received an email next day stating thanks for staying with us it was a pleasure to host you)But we were charged full amount of $190I realise that cancellations need to be done more than 24 hours to get full refund however I booked on the 6th to arrive on the 7th and as we had an accident it was not simply a case of oh we are not coming. We physically could not drive the 6 hours to Cobar with our trailer in the condition it was.The people of St George were wonderful and we had electrics replaced, leaf springs replaced, axel straightened and new tyres put on by early afternoon of the 8th.When I asked if we could possibly be refunded due to the costs of getting fixed plus paying 2 nights accomodation in St George we hadn't bargained on we were told a flat out no that's not our policy. No offer of partial refund, a free night on our way home or any empathy at all. The poor man behind the counter was compassionate and was doing his job which I fully understand and he put me onto his boss (Vipul) via phone who was an utter pig.We will never stay here again

Life is too short to stay at the Cobar Copper City Motel

    rating29 Mar 2026

Remember that sickly sweet, cloying air freshener scent used in the old days to cover up stale beer and tobacco smells? Well, if you are feeling nostalgic for that, go stay at the Cobar Copper City Motel, 40 Lewis St, Cobar. For $195 a night, you can, and more! We were especially impressed with the air con wiring (see photos), mould on the ceiling and the unstable air vent. But best of all, on complaining about the smell, the proprietor arrived carrying an aerosol can of air freshener. We said, that is the smell we do NOT want to sleep with; he replied that the motel did not use the aerosol air freshener in their rooms. We asked:‘Why did you bring it, then?’ ‘Customers ask for it,’ he replied. 🙄 ‘But if you do not use this air freshener, what is this smell?’‘I cannot smell anything,’ said he. Cobar is pretty short of places to stay. But life is too short to stay at the Cobar Copper City Motel.

A old fashioned motel in Cobar

    rating18 Mar 2026

The Copper City Motel was Ok. The room a standard room was quiet and reasonable size for 1. The bed was soft and the room was clean. The rooms are though dated with self assembled furniture, a good sized bathroom although dated in appearance.TV is a good sized. Also there is a toaster microwave bottles of water. The air con was good and kept the room at a pleasant temperature although warm outside. The motel provides soap and little bottles of shampoo. The curtains kept the room dark in the morning.Motels in Cobar are not cheap due mining and associated business. The standard dress a fluoride orange shirt and shorts. The hotel next door is good for a feed at night. There is no breakfast but buying a few items from the local IGA store can provide a good cheap breakfast.

Because of this, we were woken up constantly throughout the night because the wall where the bed head was backed onto the ensuite.

    Horrible. Avoid.

    rating01 Oct 2025

Definitely to be avoided. Just horrible. We booked a three-bedroom unit off-site. Driving to the main hotel to pick up keys was a put-off. Then we drove to the very disappointing, dirty, and smelly 'unit'. I tried to give it a go, but the bed in our room smelt like it had already been slept in. We just ran away to a more pleasant hotel.
