Coolest place to stay in Coober Pedy.

Great place, great location. Pete is a lovely guy, super friendly, and super helpful. The Motel is clean, well-equipped, and cool. They have rooms to accommodate every budget and family size. It's the place to stay if you're ever passing through Coober Pedy.

    Discrimination of guide dog

    rating09 Oct 2024

I booked and paid for the room and upon arrival I was refused entry as I have a guide dog. After informing them that it is against the law to refuse a guide dog, the guy Peter, didn't seem to care. We were told to leave the premises even though I repeatedly told him that there will be consequences.

Peter & crew are legends - Incredible place, friendly staff, super helpful and amazing stories! These guys welcomed me and my little sausage dog and made us feel so welcome! The best part of Coober Pedy is stopping here! Will definitely be back!

Filthy and mouldy showers, noo way ae they cleaned properly with efficcient cleaning pproducts. A rundown and dirty kitchen. Topped off with a rude and abusive female caretaker and a Reception area that stinks of stale cigarette smoke. All round a horrible experience.

    Unique Underground Experience

    rating09 Oct 2022

Coober Pedy is famous for its underground homes, so I couldn't resist the opportunity to stay in an underground hostel carved into the sandstone using the same tunnelling tools the miners use in their workings. I had booked a 2 bed dorm but was put in a 4 bed dorm by myself. The dorm is basically a cavern bored into the rock off a main corridor, with 2 sets of bunks and a curtain for privacy. No other furniture at all. There is nowhere to store your valuables or luggage. On the second night, some weird guy was walking the corridor all night and peering in through the curtain.Linen is provided, but is mismatched and a little worn, very much like the utensils in the kitchen. Most of the frypans had long ago lost their nonstick coating. Not the owner's fault, but these things don't last forever. It was an interesting experience and I would recommend it for the price, being much cheaper than motels in the area and for the novelty of experiencing living underground.
