    Flinders Experience

    rating04 May 2026

The park setting is absolutely beautiful, neat and clean. Ben,who I spoke to by phone to organise my booking was very helpful. Was looking forward to having contact with him to thank him in person. Unfortunately he works remotely,in Mt Tambourine. There ended the service. The staff at check in were off hand to say the least. For the duration of our stay we did not have 1 hot shower, when reported, there was nothing wrong. 3 instant gas heaters to run 10 showers in a full park is never going to make it. Showers and toilets were not very clean. After the Ultra marathon the cleaner spent 30 mins one day and 20 mins the next cleaning. Lights on the pathways were not working. It was very good that boxed drinking water was provided as the water was not potable. Apart from the beautiful setting, a disappointing experience for a Discovery park

Good base from which to explore the Pound

    rating28 Sept 2025

We spent 3 nights in a Heysen Room at the resort. It was set up with a Queen bed and two singles, with an easily accessible shower a feature of the bathroom. A small paved area adjacent to the entry door provided a table and 4 chairs, and a pleasant spot for a sundowner. The reception area and restaurant was perhaps a 70 metre walk away, along a paved pathway that could be a little treacherous at night, when lighting is limited, probably due to the need to avoid disturbing resident animals unduly. The car park was behind our block of 4 rooms...which meant we had to traipse across someone else's sit-out area when loading and unloading. That aside, the resort is a good place to base yourself for walks deeper into the Pound. It is close by a small supermarket, and fuel outlet. The resort restaurant food is good, though the system of ordering coffee and food at the same counter can be problematic, especially when a single staff member has to take orders and make coffees.

    Central location in remote SA

    rating24 Sept 2025

We stayed 2 nights at Wilpena Pound Resort as part of a road trip from Adelaide to the Flinders Ranges. Our hire car, a RV4 Hybrid , was very much at home on the excellent SA roads. We did not go off road.WPR is all inclusive due to its remote location but there is also a tiny IGA nearby. On a positive note the Resort is perfectly sited for walking, hiking, day trips etc. A trip to Blinman and the copper mine 160 km round trip is essential, Walking trails ranging from flat and easy roadways to challenging mountain scrambles are well signposted and maintained by the National Park. Therefore, there is no facility for dogs or firearms. The structure of the Resort caters for busloads of tourists and groups of same interest folks. Accommodation is basic, a little tired, but in keeping with the remoteness of the area. TV is limited to 3 or 4 channels, Air Conditioning is standard and sleeping facilities are satisfactory. The main problem that we found is the meals and dining arrangements. The menu varies and specials soon run out. Beverages and alcohol prices are very high and the service could be better. Juices ran out in the mornings and were not topped up.Standard basic wine is $50.00 a bottle take it or leave it. Food prices are commensurately high. The Resort reminded me of coastal guest houses in the 60's where a captive audience has to accept what's on offer or not go there at all. There's a certain school camp atmosphere.Well, we ticked off Flinders Ranges from the bucket list but the WPR could do better given the prices charged.

    Worst experience of our holiday

    rating22 Sept 2025

We had a disappointing experience here. The hotel room was simple, but okay. Taking a shower, luckily we had warm water, was not clean and with a curtain. There was totally no privacy because the room had a large window and everyone walking by, which was the regular route, could look into our room. However, most dissapointing was the restaurant. Noisy, busy, and the food not tasty. This is our most bad experience in sic weeks holiday in Australia.Although we had booked for 2 nights, we left after the first night.
