Location

The hotel is nestled between the mountains and the sea. It overlooks North Wollongong Beach and the spectacular Pacific Ocean. The hotel is 2 hours' drive from Canberra and is just 2 km from Wollongong's city centre. It is located just an hour's drive south of Sydney Airport.

Facility

204 rooms and 13 suites are located on 10 storeys and can be reached by 4 lifts. English-speaking staff at the reception are happy to assist guests at the reception desk round the clock. Check-in and check-out are available 24 hours a day. Amenities include a baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service and cash machine. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. A fireplace creates a cosy atmosphere. A number of shops, including a supermarket, are great for shopping or just browsing. Rooms

Air conditioning and central heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. In most units, guests can enjoy a view of the sea from a balcony or terrace. All rooms are carpeted and have a double bed, a queen-size bed, a king-size bed or a sofa bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. Additional features include a refrigerator and a tea/coffee station. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience.     Visiting for the Wings over Shellharbour air show, I arrived late Sunday arvo. There was a short wait while the sole staff member finished checking in another guest. A second staff member eventually emerged from the back office. Check-in was friendly and welcoming, however could have been more informative in terms of hotel facilities. As an Accor Gold, I was kindly upgraded to an Ocean View room on the upper floor.The hotel is in a lovely location, seconds from the beach and a short 20 min walk into the town centre. Public areas are clean, spacious and mostly fresh however the guest corridor painting is in need of refresh (lots of scuff marks). The pool area is very dated. The guest room was comfortable, however some signs of age including a dated TV (no streaming), no bedside plugs and poorly maintained paintwork. In terms of sleep quality, the mattress was extremely soft and there was intermittent banging/knocking sounds that woke me twice during the night. No bottled water nor reusable bottle to fill - a sign suggesting to use tap water or go to the bar.I had breakfast in the hotel - the buffet had a good selection and cooked items were tasty and fresh. In all, some areas of improvement however still a good-value option if visiting the Gong.

    We stayed here for two nights as we were attending the Wings Over Shellharbour air show. From a location point of view, the hotel was an ideal choice, a quality hotel yet only 20 mins from the Air Show site by highway.We last stayed here pre-Covid era so were surprised and pleased with the extensive renovations to the building, from the car park below the hotel to the function rooms, choice of bar and dining restaurants. Our room was on level 9, not with a balcony (an oversight on my part when booking) but certainly very pleasant as it overlooked North Beach. The sound of breaking waves 24/7 was very pleasant - next time I'll book a room with a balcony overlooking the beach to enjoy sitting outside in the fresh air.Nothing about the hotel or its staff can be faulted; everything was as spotless as possible. This hotel is solidly built; no adjacent room noise detectable.Parking was easy; once checked in and provided with the QR code to scan, booking the car park for two nights and paying by credit card was simple. The car park's boom gate entry recognized our car's registration plate each time and allowed us in easily.Two little but wonderful things stand out: complimentary biscuits in the room with the tea, coffee and hot chocolate sachets, and supplies of the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper at a table in front of Reception. Since the Covid-era, almost no hotel has offered either and we were very pleased to find both. Thank you!     Wow what a lovely stay we had this time. Trish, we loved our room 903. Nearly everytime we come down to the Gong, we will either stay at Novotel, or Sebel in Kiama and even love Gerrigong - of course depending on the rates and for how long. We were lucky enough to have 2 nights in a balcony room, where you can watch the sun rise and hear the waves. Cockatoos were cheeky and a delight to see n feed. Restaurant at the bar was beautiful - he was a short filo man and a beautiful Perisan lady that looked after us, and how could we not thank Teresa - my Goodness best, delightful staff ever. All of you made our stay so memoriable - thank you. Ha even the young lady on departure made it easy to leave - we could've stayed easily for another 5 nights. Oh housekeeping of course had out done themselves, beautiful clean room, everything functionable - thank you.     This hotel was nice but very dated. I had a room with a big balcony but be careful as the day loop curtains are quite sheer and you can share more than expected with your neighbours!!Decor was nice but very basic and the bathroom whilst having a big bath was actually on the small sideParking on site was expensive but the views were amazing.     The accommodation is dated and scruffy. The pool area is terrible and not clean. The hotel charged $39 per night for parking - there is free parking on the road behind the hotel. The worst part is that the WiFi does not work and is on their own admission an old system. The hotel also suggests that they can only support two devices per room - it is clearly not fit for purpose. Novotel charge full price for the rooms probably because of its proximity to the beach but the facilities and services are sadly below par. Would not recommend !
