    Receptionist full of attitude

    rating01 May 2026

Staying at Novotel Sydney international Airport on 2nd May 2026, around 11:00 PM.To be clear, the check-in experience earlier was excellent. The staff member who handled it was professional, warm, and efficient — exactly what you expect from a 4-star property. That makes what followed even more concerning. After settling into the rooms, we noticed:– One room had no bottled water – Another had only one – No milk provided for tea/coffee We approached reception during a shift change and waited patiently as requested.A staff member starting their shift confirmed that 2 bottles are complimentary. At that point, a lady (finishing her shift) stepped in — and this is where the entire experience collapsed. Her tone was dismissive, impatient, and frankly unacceptable. She said: “If there is a bottle, go fill it from the tap. If not, take a glass and fill it from the bathroom. Or bring your room bottle and fill it at the bar here, or buy extra bottles of water.”My wife explained that going up and down to refill water was inconvenient and politely asked if something could be arranged. The response showed zero willingness to assist.Instead, she proceeded to demonstrate how to turn on the tap — as if addressing someone incapable of basic function.Let’s be direct: This wasn’t miscommunication. This wasn’t a bad moment. This was attitude. No ownership. No courtesy. No attempt to resolve a simple issue. Just a condescending response to a tired guest asking for a basic amenity. In hospitality, especially at a 4-star level, attitude is the product. Facilities can vary. Mistakes can happen. But how staff respond defines the brand. That interaction didn’t just fail service — it undermined it.To make matters worse, after returning to the room we attempted to call room service — no answer. Reception — no answer. We then called the hotel number from a mobile, someone answered, assured us water would be sent, but nothing ever arrived.Management should take this seriously: One individual with the wrong attitude can undo the work of an entire team.Because after an experience like this, the question isn’t about water — it’s whether this is a property worth returning to at all.

    Reasonable but expensive motel

    rating13 Apr 2026

Reasonable hotel but quite expensive at over $300 for a double queen room. Facilities quite nice, beds comfortable. The thing that let it down was the cafe/rest aurant. Croissant was $17 and with the Easter Monday surcharge was over $19 (For one crossoint!) mentioned that this was for my granddaughter and she was not eating in! We then got a small coke and they charged us $8.05 just ridiculous. I am glad we were not eating there. I asked to speak to a manager and the staff said they would get back to me, but that never happened. We ended up eating at the rowing club down the road which was great.

    Dirty, bad account management

    rating23 Dec 2025

We booked room and added breakfast for 3 people. Received email advising there was booking for 6 for breakfast on account, I replied correcting booking and requested refund was advised no refund only room credit would be issued despite this being their error. On arrival I requested refund again and was advised that the room now had payment for 9 breakfasts on account I once again asked that my bank be credited as this was not done at my request, reception staff member credited my account. When we checked into the room it was not cleaned properly, a sock was found by the window, mould in the bathroom and what appeared to be blood stains on a pillow case.

Dated rooms but friendly staff and a decent location

    rating28 Nov 2025

Stayed for a single night before a morning flight. Very friendly staff. We had food from the bar menu. Was modest but decent other than the $26 “braised beef pie” that was a simple rectangle supermarket pie that you would be disappointed to buy from a petrol station let alone a four star hotel. The room was spacious but dated. Quite inferior compared to the Novatel Newcastle which we had stayed in the night before. I would stay here again as it was a reasonable price, however would describe the hotel more like a three star than four star until the rooms are refurbished.
