    Boutique My Backside

    rating05 May 2026

Arrived at this hotel and the guy on reception was very nice. That’s where it ended. This place is small, painted a dingy dark green with narrow corridors. It frankly looked one step up from a backpacker hostel. Got to our room and it was tiny, the bathroom was bigger, couldn’t open one suitcase let alone two. The room was dull, dingy and looked like it could with a good makeover. Went straight onto booking.com and booked a decent hotel (Rydges World Square) which was actually only A$ 20 more than the same dates at the Vulcan, although we had obviously previously paid for the Vulcan but frankly I didn’t care. Ignore all the silly reviews about being a quaint boutique hotel. Anjenette Hernandez, General Manager at Vulcan Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that our hotel did not meet your personal expectations on this occasion. Our team is always committed to helping guests enjoy the most comfortable stay possible. When you returned to reception shortly after check‑in, several solutions were offered — including a room change — so we could better accommodate your needs. Unfortunately, you had already booked alternative accommodation before speaking with us, which limited our ability to assist further. You had reserved a Standard Queen Room, and both the room size and photos are clearly displayed on our website and booking platforms. For guests who prefer more spacious accommodation, our suites provide a significantly larger layout and may have been a more suitable choice. We understand that room size and style preferences vary, especially in a heritage boutique property such as ours. Many of our guests appreciate the charm, character, and personalised service that come with staying in a smaller historic hotel, as reflected in the majority of our genuine reviews. While our style may not appeal to everyone, we do strive to deliver exactly what is advertised. We appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best in your future travels.

Lovely hotel, great location, amazing staff!

    rating20 Apr 2026

My daughter and I really enjoyed our time at The Vulcan Hotel. It was my daughters birthday during our stay and one of the lovely staff surprised her with a cupcake and card in our room and she was over joyed with the surprise! Really made her day. The room was spacious, clean and extremely comfortable. The room was quiet and well stocked with anything you may need. All the staff working there are extremely friendly, very helpful and were happy to answer any questions you had. The free breakfast was such a lovely surprise and took all the stress away from going elsewhere and the barrista coffee was delicious! The hotels location is a short walk to public transport and shops. The price was very reasonable considering its location. Highly recommend The Vulcan Hotel the old school charm mixed with some more modern elements make it a lovely place to sit and enjoy your down time after a big day out. 10 out of 10 will stay again! Anjenette Hernandez, General Manager at Vulcan Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for your wonderful review and for choosing to celebrate your daughter’s birthday with us. Vulcan Hotel : Great Place To Stay

    rating18 Apr 2026

Great location within walking distance of Sydney Central Railway Station and the Sydney Fish Markets. I was welcomed by the staff when I walked in to reservations with smiles. The Hotel has a cool, old world charm to it, after all I used to party there in the mid 90s when it was a pub/venue ! The rooms were clean, well presented and quite adequate with a comfortable bed, decent bar fridge and a spacious bathroom and an excellent shower. Down stairs the dinning room for breakfast was great. You wouldn't fit a football team in there, but the selection for breakfast was good. The semi double glazed windows provided good noise cancellation from the busy Wattle Street outside. For a hotel so close to the heart of the CBD, value for money, this place is well worth the stay. What more could you want ! Anjenette Hernandez, General Manager at Vulcan Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We’re delighted to hear that you had such a positive stay with us and that the overall experience left a great impression. It’s always rewarding to know when guests feel welcomed, comfortable, and well‑looked‑after throughout their visit. We truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts, especially as someone familiar with the building’s history — it adds something special to your feedback. Providing good value and a memorable stay is something our team works hard to deliver, and it’s lovely to see that reflected in your comments. We’re grateful you chose to stay with us and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon.

    Great value for the money

    rating05 Apr 2026

We're here for the second time in a row and we're really happy with the hotel. It is located quite centrally, has a vintage atmosphere, and features quite a nice continental breakfast. The staff is very responsive and helpful. We had a balcony run which was clean but quite dated; that said, it didn't prevent us from enjoying our stay at all. There was some noise from the outside, but not during the night. Overall, this hotel offers great value for is prices. Anjenette Hernandez, General Manager at Vulcan Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you so much for staying with us again — it truly means a lot to our whole team. We’re delighted to hear that our central location, vintage charm, and continental breakfast made your visit enjoyable, and we’re especially glad our staff were able to assist you throughout your stay.We appreciate your thoughtful comments about the balcony room and the heritage character of the building.
