Great location away from the go-to-spot of Coles Bay (which is lovely), the view is spectacular and the dinning is fantastic. Freycinet Resort Owner, General Manager at Freycinet Resort, responded to this review Thanks so much for the 5-star review! We love being that quiet escape just down the road from Coles Bay, and we're so glad you enjoyed the view and the dining experience. Hope to welcome you back to the hilltop again soon. Cheers!

    Expensive and bland

    rating09 Mar 2026

Shabu shabu was very very expensive and very disappointing. $300 for 2 with 4 prawns and a plate of steak that was a crime to boil it in some tasteless brine . I do sukiyaki hotpot at home and it is delicious what you gave us was very bland . On a good note the staff were nice and friendly and the breakfast was good Freycinet Resort Owner, General Manager at Freycinet Resort, responded to this review Thank you for your feedback. While we are pleased you enjoyed the service and breakfast, we must clarify the details of our Shabu Shabu dinner. The $270 price for two reflects a full multi-course experience, not just a single dish. This includes entrees, desserts, and our Premium Tasmanian Wagyu set. Our Shabu Shabu features fresh seafood, such as the prawns in your set, with the flexibility for guests to add premium options like oysters, mussels, or lobster for an additional cost.Regarding the 'tasteless brine'—Shabu Shabu is a traditional Japanese style designed to be light and clean to highlight the natural, high-grade marbling of the Wagyu. It is a very different culinary experience from the heavy, sweet soy base of Sukiyaki.Running a premium restaurant in a destination like Coles Bay involves significant costs beyond just the ingredients—including professional staff, utilities, and maintenance. If you prefer to judge a meal solely by the cost of the raw ingredients compared to cooking at home, then we agree that dining at home is the better choice for you. We wish you the best with your home cooking.

    Absolute Zen

    rating08 Mar 2026

We loved our two night stay here! The staff was so nice and helpful, the Japanese dinner and sake we had night one was fabulous, and breakfast each morning was so delicious as we looked out onto the mountains and bay and got to watch wallabies playing. The property itself was magnificent! Acres and acres of woods, mountain, and water views from every direction and fun eclectic sculptures around every bend. Finally the accommodations were so comfortable and they thought of everything. We had gourmet tea service, hot chocolate and coffee in the room, binoculars and a high quality telescope that we used to enjoy the stars and the red moon night one and even games to play. I found this thru ChatGPT by searching #uniqueaccomodations and #hiddengems. And it was truly a hidden gem. Only wish we could have had one more night. Thank you to the owners and staff for a wonderful vacation! Freycinet Resort Owner, General Manager at Freycinet Resort, responded to this review Thanks so much for the wonderful review! We are all so happy you enjoyed your stay. It’s great to hear that the Japanese dinner and the sake were a highlight for you on that first night. We’re glad you got some use out of the telescope too—seeing the red moon must have been incredible. We really try to include those little extras like the binoculars and games to make the cabins feel like a home away from home, so it means a lot that you noticed. Also, those wallabies at breakfast definitely make for a great view! It’s a shame you couldn’t stay that extra night, but hopefully, we’ll see you back here again soon for a longer visit next time. Safe travels!

    Overnight Stay

    rating25 Feb 2026

Didn’t live up to my expectations for how much it cost… Accommodation is comfortable & view is stunning… Restaurant options very limited, only Japanese selection including soft drinks…. Do research on restaurant first & make sure it’s what you are looking for, as it’s very costly if it’s not your thing…. Freycinet Resort Owner, General Manager at Freycinet Resort, responded to this review We’re sorry, but we’re not quite sure what you meant by “only Japanese selection including soft drinks.”Our website clearly outlines our Japanese-inspired dining experience and menu concept. If you are looking for a different style of cuisine, there are other dining options available in town, including pizza restaurants and local pubs.In addition, we offer an extensive beverage selection, including local wines, craft beers, spirits, international beers, sake, and soft drinks. Guests are welcome to purchase from our full drinks menu during their visit. We hope this clarifies things and wish you an enjoyable trip.
