    Modest rooms

    Everything looks nice from outside but as you enter inside any room, it's immediately notable that the rooms have modest interiors, old furniture and bathrooms.     Ripped off, not coming back

    The staff ripped us off, we had asked if we could pay cash and we could, but they added extra on saying it was the tax. We asked for a receipt and was told we got that in the morning. In the morning we saw breakfast @€15 had been added for 1 person only (we had asked for no breakfast) but we couldn’t get that €15 back. The room : 1 towel was dirty and the latch on the window was broken so unable to close it. Also only net curtains so anyone walking past to the other rooms can see in! You asked to pay cash and you could. There is a city tax for everyone that checks into a hotel in nearly every city in europe, stated on every site aswell, so this was not a ripoff.The breakfast thing was a misunderstanding. Send us your bank details and we will gladly refund you the breakfast. The room you were in has Shutters. Inside the room you have a lever or a button (depending if the shutters are new or not). This will make your room completely dark with no one being able to see you. If you have any questions during your stay, it's best to come down to the reception or pick up the phone and call us so we can help you immediatly, not the morning after by yelling at our staff. Weapologise about the towel and will pick this up with our housekeeping.Kind regards,Alexander

    Definitely not ideal

    Well, this one surprised me. From insisting on payment when we arrived to the hovel of a room. Firstly, the room was so small, you literally tripped over the bed as you walked in. The AC seemed to be a window or was it the contraption in the corner that did nothing. The curtain is a roller blind that made you feel like you were imprisoned overnight. On the second morning we went to the shops and hoped that the room would be cleaned ... the maids went in.. Left one towel (for two people) and did not touch the beds or anything else. The next day we had to insist the room was cleaned and sat out in close proximity so that the maid could see us.. Later that day we needed an iron and ironing board. I was immediately asked when I would bring it back as there was supposedly only one iron. The staff on reception were very polite but I think this is my last visit to the Gent truck stop... There is no AC as mentioned everywhere. There are blinds that completely block out the light if you fully close it. If you leave it a bit more open so the light comes through the little gaps I can indeed imagine it makes you feel imprisoned. Luckily the door was right next to it. We are sorry about the misunderstanding regarding our housekeeping. We have already talked to them about this and hope that this won't happen again in the future.We do what we can to help, we appreciate your kind wods about the staff.Kind regards,

    The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in

    We had 3 rooms between 4 adults & 2 children. Small & scruffy rooms with tatty, stained & torn wallpaper, retouched with mismatched colours. Mould in bathrooms. Damaged flooring in bedroomNo A/C on a very hot day. No ice available & told not to drink the water in the rooms. Electric car charging points not working & this was one of the reasons we picked this hotel. Had to drive elsewhere to charge car. Charged €10 for a 3 year old to have a piece of toast & a bowl of cornflakes. This was refunded when I objected ( children under 12 are supposed to have free breakfast ) Only pizza served in the ( quiet ) restaurant, due to football matches…odd ?Pizzas really poor quality, very little topping & very expensive.Wish we’d never gone there. Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in Campagent NV, General Manager at Campanile Gent / Gand, responded to this review Dear,it is unfortunate to read of the problems you experienced and that the help from our staff was not satisfactory.Our reception team is always ready to help.For example, we made several calls to the charging station company to resolve this issue.If there are any problems in the room, please come and tell the reception so we can solve it.During EK Football we had the promotion of a volonté pizza + buffet for €19,50 which seems a reasonable price to me.We immediately refunded the price of the child's breakfast when you came to tell us the child's age.Kidn regards,Elisabeth V

    Basic accommodation, great food

    Accommodation is basic, but very clean. Bed was comfortable. The towels could do with being a bit bigger, but they were fresh. Staff are really friendly and helpful and the food was far nicer than two star. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Great area for easy access to Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp, which are all beautiful.
