    Old and tired

    rating11 Sept 2025

Previous reviews are quite fair. Good checking/reception experience and a good location near to Tram 1 in to centre. Rooms were old, tired and not 100% clean- with evidence of the dreaded mosquitoes squashed on the walls and one flying around in room (despite windows closed and asking for a front facing room away from the lake). Hairdryer etc very old. Lack of plug sockets. Safe didn’t work.It looks like they are renovating though as some construction going on. I probably wouldn’t go again as I don’t think it represents value for money. Mosquito Nightmare

    rating05 Sept 2025

We stayed in this hotel on Wednesday 27th August for a one night stopover on our way to Amsterdam. The hotel is undergoing some building work at the front of the hotel, but we didn't hear any noise. The biggest issue for us were the Mosquitos in our room. They kept us awake all night and I can honestly say that I didn't sleep a wink. When we left in the morning our bodies were pickled with Mosquitos bites which drove us nuts as they were extremely itchy for a whole week. Reading other reviews, it seems obvious that the hotel hasn't put any control measures in place to prevent them. I would highly recommend that you avoid this place. Mosquito hell

    rating06 Jun 2025

Stayed at this hotel for one night only and I wish I didn’t. Check in was great and breakfast was ok . When I entered my room there was a notice on the wall saying keep windows shut as there is a lake near by and there is lots of mosquitoes around. When I looked around the room there was blood and dead mosquitoes on the walls and ceiling. So when I went to lay down on the bed after 5minutes I was starting to be attacked by bigger than normal mosquitoes. I manged to kill three of them but when I came home and woke up the next day I could see I had around 10 nasty bites and has time has gone on they have got more and more painful. Highly recommended

    rating25 Jul 2024

Despite the bad reviews I booked this hotel during the Ghent Festival. It may be a little old but this hotel is great. The tram to the city is only 200 metres away, the trams run 24/7 during the festival, the food is lovely, in a beautiful restaurant, the staff are friendly and very helpful. The rooms comfortable and clean. Highly recommended. Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Holiday Inn Gent - Expo By IHG, responded to this review Dear John,Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted that you appreciated the proximity to the tram, the dining experience in our restaurant, the friendliness of our team, and the comfort and cleanliness of our rooms. We carry out work when necessary to maintain our facilities and It is truly rewarding to know that our efforts to provide a welcoming atmosphere and high-quality service have been recognised by you.We very much look forward to seeing you again. Tired and a little drab now.

    rating10 Jul 2024

I have stayed here so many times over the years and wow, does this place need a refurb. I always find the staff responsive and courteous which is a bonus. Beds and pillows are comfortable. However the place is so tired once you step out of the lift onto your room floor. Well walked carpets and decor that wouldn’t look out of place on the 60s.I actually feel this place is over priced given its current state. The bar no longer exists on entering the establishment, which I didn’t realise until the reception mentioned it had moved downstairs into the dining area. I just assumed it was closed as the big curtain was pulled. One thing that alarmed me was that there was some bare wiring visible behind the bedside cabinet. This being in a place were perhaps a glass of water or cup of tea when spilt would make a bad combination. The showers seem to be fitted weird too. It’s difficult to stand under them.Overall, not the best place but also not the worst. Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Holiday Inn Gent - Expo By IHG, responded to this review Dear David,Thank you for sharing your point of view.We are pleased that you found our team responsive and courteous, and that you enjoyed the comfort of our beds and pillows. However, we regret that the current aesthetic of our hotel did not meet your expectations, and appreciate your patience as we work to improve these areas. We are happy to inform you that the hotel is scheduled for renovations to refresh our decor and enhance overall guest comfort. Regarding the bar, we strive to communicate any changes effectively, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by its relocation. Moreover, safety is a top priority for us, and we are concerned about the bare wiring you mentioned; thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our showers are designed to conserve water as part of our commitment to sustainability, though we understand this may differ from what some guests are accustomed to.Nonetheless, we are grateful for your continued patronage over the years and value your loyalty to our hotel. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you on many more occasions. Best regards,Thomas Van Parijs, General Manager
