    BAD SERVICE

    rating13 Dec 2025

Liked · The rooms were a lovely size and whilst we didn't have a "view as such" the bay window was nice to see the comings and goings of the people passing by on the stairs to the town. The car park is also super conveniently positioned directly opposite the hotelDisliked · The service from the staff was awful. At check in we were simply asked to see our passport - no small talk, friendly welcome or anything. It was almost like I had stepped into a parallel universe and the chap on reception had been possessed by the "computer says no" lady... Anyhow, hoping this was an isolated incident and the guy was just having a bad day, we went to the rooms to freshen up. Whilst up there we realised that whether or not it was supposed to be a no smoking building, somebody was on a chain smoking mission with the smell of cigarettes filling the air through the corridors... it did give me some concerns around the sensitivity/working order of the smoke alarms... We went back down to the bar - in fact we were stood there quite a while before I had to go and break up a conversation between several colleagues huddled together at the end of the bar. They suggested we take a seat and they will come over. Around fifteen minutes later I finally managed to make eye contact with one of the team who eventually came and took our order, finally returning with said order. Again rubbish service... pairs and trios of staff just idling around and chatting away with one another...Whilst enjoying the drink and not expecting there being any danger of being approached to see if we would like a "top up" we noticed a huge queue of people lining the hallway... A few minutes later it became clear what the issue was... out of four lifts in the building only one was in service (for the duration of our stay). This was very inconvenient owing to one of our party realising they had left their medications (for a heart condition) in their room and subsequently having to traverse flights of stairs, slippery outdoor walkways and back to recover them from her room. Marco Wohrmann, General Manager at Van Der Valk Selys Liege, responded to this review Dear guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are sincerely sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations.Regarding the reception, we regret that our approach seemed distant. Our goal is always to welcome our guests warmly, and your feedback reminds us of the importance of being attentive and available at all times. We have shared your comments with our team to ensure that every guest feels welcomed in a friendly manner. We are also sorry for the inconveniences you encountered at the bar and for the smell of cigarette smoke in the corridors. We take the comfort and safety of our guests very seriously, and we have shared your observations with the relevant departments to improve corridor cleanliness and staff responsiveness. Finally, we understand the difficulties caused by the limited number of elevators and regret the inconvenience this caused, particularly regarding the retrieval of medications. We are working to optimize both maintenance and communication concerning the elevators to prevent such issues in the future.Your feedback is valuable and helps us improve the quality of our service. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again and provide a much more enjoyable experience.Kind regards,MélissaQuality Management Team

    Disappointing experience, we felt undervalued

    rating08 Nov 2025

A disappointing experience, although we have stayed in their properties in the Netherlands & we liked the hotel there. Here, the website presents the hotel as a heritage property but we were placed in the modern annexe which is devoid of any charm. You have to go through the main hotel, take 2 elevators and then arrive in a wing that really is not nicely decorated, and is poorly maintained. Our shower drain was faulty, the shower doors let water out into the bathroom and the shaving mirror was broken. We complained and the hotel fixed the drain but the other issues were not fixed. The 1st day, we returned to the room at night to find the garbage bag was in the middle of the room and our bed was half-made, with pillows piled on the bedside table. It was like someone started cleaning the room, but abandoned it halfway. We put the garbage bag near the dustbin, but no-one removed it for all 3 days of our stay !! The 2nd day, suddenly we had no wifi, we called reception several times and we were told a technician would fix it, but in spite of multiple requests, nothing was done. On the 3rd day, we were offered a change of rooms, but by then we were fed up and we did not want to change for 1 night. For sure we will not repeat this experience. Marco Wohrmann, General Manager at Van Der Valk Selys Liege, responded to this review Dear guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are sincerely sorry to learn that your stay did not meet your expectations. We regret the inconveniences you encountered regarding the room, housekeeping, and Wi-Fi connection. Your comments have been shared with our technical and housekeeping teams to ensure proper follow-up and to prevent such situations from happening again. We also understand your disappointment about being accommodated in the modern annex. During periods of high occupancy, certain room categories may be allocated based on availability. Nevertheless, we wish we could have found a satisfactory solution during your stay. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconveniences you experienced, and thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, which helps us improve the quality of our services. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly when making your next reservation, we will be delighted to ensure that your room fully meets your expectations.quality-management-team@valkliege.beKind regards,MélissaQuality Management Team

Great hotel. Friendly staff. Good location.

    rating10 Jul 2025

I booked this hotel with reward points. It was just for a one night stay. I wasn’t really expecting much, however I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is an older building with the reception area on the top floor and the guest rooms on lower floors. The hotel is built into the side of a hill. The main floor of the hotel contains the reception area, a very smart looking bar area. The restaurant and some out door seating areas. Check in was easy, friendly staff and we were given an upgrade. The room was actually reasonably large. Clean, tidy and in very good condition. No marks, scratches etc. Everything you would expect including a coffee machine. We had some drinks at the bar and this was a little strange. It was a hot day and we asked for some tap water only to be told no. And that we would have to buy bottled water. The bottle of water cost €11. A large beer was €6.50 and a bottle of wine €22 so it seemed fairly expensive for water. Breakfast was €21 per person and a buffet style. With fruit, cereal, hot items, bread etc. Again we thought good value. Parking. There are two options. Either outside parking just across the street from the hotel. Or in the basement of the Raddison hotel. We parked at the Raddison. No issues finding a space and I think it was €20 for the one night. Great hotel would stay here again.

Nice location but not care about guests

    rating19 Jun 2025

The hotel is in a nice location in the city center in an old castle and in a new built wing. Nice bar and restaurant on terraces with city rooves view. Restaurant quite good as the breakfast. We faced two important issues:at arrival around noon a colleague fro moutside europe was denied a room and she had to wait the standard time 3 m even if she agreed to pay an extra. It is impossible that all the rroms were ready at 3 pm and none before. This was just not willing to help who pys your salary.Again at reception we arrived at 14:50 and they said you have to wait for check in because we are changing shift..... client first again.Last but most important: room cleaning is not good. I found stiky spot near the phone and were not cleaned in 2 days. Again: bathromm was not cleaned with attention just quick stuff. Some small pieces of paper were never removed in two days. Marco Wohrmann, General Manager at Van Der Valk Selys Liege, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are glad to hear that you appreciated our location as well as our bar and restaurant. However, we are sorry for the inconveniences you encountered, particularly regarding the check-in time and room cleaning.Regarding the check-in, please allow us to explain that the hotel was fully booked the day before your arrival, which requires time to prepare the rooms. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that all rooms will be ready before 3 PM, which is the official check-in time, although we always do our best to accommodate our guests as early as possible.Concerning the cleaning, we sincerely regret that your room was not maintained to the standards we strive for. We have shared your feedback with our housekeeping team to ensure improvements. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again and provide you with a fully satisfying experience.Kind regards,MeriemQuality Management Team
