Location

This hotel is located in the best area of the so-called 'Corredor Cultural', which lies 15 minutes from the sandy beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema.     Do not book this hotel it is AWFUL!

    Don’t go here. It is NOT OK!!!!Photos are not that of hotel rooms.Staff are amazing but the place is over 100 years old and it shows in the decor, rooms and bedding!!! They up the price at holidays .. are room was over $100 a night and was absolutely rough! It’s a rough street with homeless mattresses and people , stinks of piss, drug users, it’s not safe at all. Avoid this place at all costs.

    I was a bit nervous about this hotel because some of the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised.The location is great. Right by the metro, which is essential for getting to the far-flung areas. It is a perfect base for exploring the centre, Lapa etc by foot.The hotel is basic, but spotlessly clean, has fast wifi, a good shower, and a good breakfast buffet.It felt secure.It was a good price I would stay again.

    Awful hotel, AVOID!!!

    First I want to say that someone broke into our room while we were out sightseeing. This happened after two nights of us being there and we booked a total of 7 nights. This totally ruined everything for us. I found the front of my luggage bag opened and the lining was cut into so the can get access to the inside of the bag. I am not sure if anything was taken but our valuables were in the safe. I felt sick that this had happened. I took my bag to the reception to show them and the man in the reception called the manager who just stared blankly without saying a word. Staff couldn't speak much English but in this case they just didn't speak any, clearly didn't care in investigating, almost like this type of things are normal. We refused housekeeping for the rest of the stay and had to beg for towels, sheets and toilet paper. Breakfastwas basic, lots of files in the breakfast room. Pool was tiny. Last day on checkout we wanted to get a taxi but the woman in the reception kept saying that the road is shut, I kept seeing cars going up and down and the hotel opposite us had taxis picking people up. Really horrible experience!

    Stayed here in July for 6 nights, the hotel was very clean and the rooms were reasonably sized. There were just a few things that let this hotel down, number one was the fact that breakfast wasn't included (even though the receptionist told us it was, so we was footed with a hefty bill). Secondly the location is central for the business district and Lapa, but you must take a taxi or the metro to beaches and tourist locations. The staff were friendly however, there was a language barrier, on one occasion the receptionist rang our room and woke us up, demanding we went to reception immediately to pay our hotel bill... we still had another 2 nights booked. I would stay here again for one or two nights max due to the handy location for some places in Rio.

    This place was great: Really clean, lovely breakfast, helpful staff and it has a nice roof terrace and pool. It's also excellent value for money. The only down side was the noise on a weekend. There's a street party that takes place on the street to the side of the building on Fri and Sat nights. The music does stop at midnight but it's not great if your wanting an early night. Not really the hotels fault but worth bearing in mind.Overall a very pleasant stay.
