    Rio de Janeiro

we stayed at the plaza hotel and had a great experience, the rooms themselves are very old, but very clean and maintained, the receptionists are extremely helpful and are always willing to help even though they appear to be very tired, especially our dear anízio give wonderful tips on incredible restaurants in Rio de Janeiro, the common areas of the hotel are very good and the pool is also really cool, we want to go back soon. Marcelo Schmidt, Marketing at Plaza Barra First, responded to this review Thank you so much for choosing the Plaza Barra First and for taking the time to share your experience. We’re delighted to know that, despite the rooms being more traditional in style, their cleanliness and upkeep contributed to a pleasant stay.Your kind words about our reception team, especially Anízio, truly mean a lot. He is indeed passionate about welcoming guests and sharing the best of Rio — we’re glad his tips made your visit even more special. It’s also great to hear that you enjoyed our common areas and pool. We’ll be looking forward to welcoming you back for another memorable stay very soon!Warm regards,Pablo Lis – General Manager

    Think again...

    rating18 Aug 2022

My husband and I traded our timeshare for this resort. We did what we thought was due diligence in looking at this site for our vacation. Interval International uses a rating system and we only book those resorts that have a high rating. We also looked at TripAdvisor and understood most reviews were dated. We chalked that up to Covid.Wow, were we misled by the Interval rating and the old posts and photos. Something has to have happened, new management something because the reviews for the most part were good. When we arrived the bar was still open as was room service. We tried to order a bottle of wine at bar but since not on the menu there was no way the bartender could figure out how to sell it. One of the front desk employees thought that was odd however he didn't push it. He did finally show us the 4 bottles available in the little market. Those were replenished day after all sold. We then ordered hamburgers because easy. The bartender didn't speak English and our Portuguese is poor. We get it, we travel and you work with language issues. He didn't really try even with Google translate. The next day we went to the pool.. The coldest pool ever. It's like they cool it.There are no amenities at the pool.. No bar, no restaurant not even ability to order from room service and have delivered. The room itself had 1 arm chair and 2 wooden chairs with a desk. The bed started out OK but by each morning my back hurt. The balcony didn't have any chairs. That would have been nice. The housekeeping that is listed on Interval and TripAdvisor was hit or miss. Some days none, some days new towels, other days new hand towel and new bath mat but no new bath towel. The bright side, they did change the sheets. The information we read stated small, snack size refrigerator. That's true but it's crammed full as a mini bar.The grounds are undergoing some type of renovations. That's OK.. One must expect refreshes occasionally.Alex was the bright spot. He was helpful, spoke English and did his best to make our stay pleasant. The lady with red hair was good too. We thank them both! This resort is in a posh area of Rio. Many upscale shops and restaurants. The soccer players live in Barra. The downside to this area is, its a lot of local. Local flavor is fun but it's an hour Uber ride to get to the hot spots like Ipanema or Copacabana. We moved to the JW Marriott mid-vacation. We prefer more amenities and to have easier access to hot spots. If you are considering this place think hard about what you want. You can't walk to the beach. It's another Uber ride. Cláudia Hörbe, Marketing at Plaza Barra First, responded to this review I'm sorry to hear that your stay at the resort did not live up to your expectations. It's always frustrating when a vacation doesn't go as planned. It sounds like the resort had some issues with communication, maintenance, and amenities, which is disappointing. However, I'm glad to hear that Alex and the lady with red hair were able to provide some bright spots during your stay. It's also great to know that the resort is located in a posh area of Rio with many upscale shops and restaurants. But I understand your preference for more amenities and easier access to hot spots, which led you to move to the JW Marriott mid-vacation.Thank you for sharing your honest review. It's important for others to know about both the positive and negative aspects of a resort before making a decision. I hope your next vacation is more enjoyable and meets all your expectations.

Omitted manager. Bad service. They come into the room when you're asleep - they apologized saying they made a mistake. Cold food. Breakfast without replacement at 9 o'clock. Beautiful view. Quit. There are better options. Cláudia Hörbe, Marketing at Plaza Barra First, responded to this review Hello. We thank you for your review. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Stopover on the way back from Foz de Iguacu

    rating29 Jul 2019

We wanted to stay in Barra as its safer, upmarket and near to the beach. The hotel is behind a lagoon which is accessible by a free shuttle & ferry ride which takes 20 minutes +. The hotel has a very good restaurant which does a good breakfast and buffet lunch with music.Rooms are a little small but have a good facilties and fine views.Staff are friendly and helpful. Although they don't speak good English and they trued to charge us for another room on checkout. Short walk to Barra Design shopping mall. Cláudia Hörbe, Marketing at Plaza Barra First, responded to this review Hello. Thank you for staying with us. We are very happy for the positive review and we hope you'll come and visit us again some other time.

This hotel was selected due to be very near of my office's headquarters. It is a very quiet hotel. Rooms are very spacious, and breakfast is superb.Location is very good: shopping malls and restaurants are nearby.
