    DO NOT Reccomend

    rating02 Mar 2025

Unfortunately, I DO NOT recommend this accommodation. Booked a cheap holiday to Bansko, Unfortunately the room was unclean and smelt. We deep cleaned the apartment day 1 which didn't reduce the smell. Not well equipt, hot water ran out, no hair dryer and outdated furniture. Double room was 2 singles pushed together. Spa was due to be included but was quoted $10 lev. Owners smoking in the restaurant. Spent as little time as possible in this accommodation. Which is unfortunate due to the cold weather.

Brilliant experience and highly under rated

From the moment we arrived we met Stancho the owner and chef who straight away made us feel so welcome and at home.Despite having limited English he was not only happy to communicate through Google Translate but accommodate us any way he could. He left us with the most amazing memories and felt we were staying with a family friend rather than another hotel. We made a friend for life and would 100% recommend the mountain romance hotel and will be back again.

Awful. Instantly regretted booking here as soon as we arrived, and it got even worse!

    rating14 Mar 2024

The hot water kept running out after about 5 minutes in the shower, then took over half an hour to heat up again. The staff / owners (some more sympathetic than others) were unable to do anything to fix it. They just explained the hot water tank in each room was very small and not big enough for the number of number of people the guests we'd booked for! It wasn't even big enough for one guest, especially after a day skiing! Also:The sheets were too small for the beds, so didn't stay on at night, and some were badly dirty / stained. The room was very dark. I had to use my phone torch to see in the wardrobe in the evenings! The bath towels were tiny - more like hand towels. The shower curtain rail was broken and kept falling down, and the shower curtain was too small. The breakfasts were very poor - very limited selection, cheap/stale cornflakes and muesli (with no other cereal options), cheap sliced bread, warm milk that tasted off, no fruit or vegetables (fresh or otherwise) apart from basic tomato and cucumber slices which quickly ran out each day, a rubbish coffee machine, dark eating area, no information to help people with allergies or other dietary requirements. The reception was never manned, day or night. The gym / spa area had no proper changing rooms and towels were not available there - the very few people I ever saw using it had to walk through the hotel in their bathing costumes and the tiny bath towels from their rooms! It's further from the Gondola than advertised, and an uphill walk.I could go on, but if you're still thinking of staying at this miserable place, you're a lost cause! On the plus side, it was relatively inexpensive. However, as soon as we arrived, we wished we'd paid a bit more to stay elsewhere. Just glad we didn't decide to book half-board (dread to think how bad the dinners would have been, and there are plenty of good, inexpensive restaurants and other food options in Bansko).

    Very good stay

    rating07 Apr 2023

We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay, the location and views were lovely and good walking distance from the ski lifts. The breakfasts were excellent, we especially enjoyed the Bulgarian breakfast. Dinner was also very good, and the hosts generosity was much appreciated! The sauna and hot tub were both very nice. Our only criticism would be the sudden water temperature changes when showering Thank you for a lovely stay!

Heartily recommend - with some caveats

    rating08 Feb 2023

If you book Mountain Romance Hotel, you will have a warm, comfortable, friendly and enjoyable stay in Bansko. It's fantastic value for money, you'll have an easy walk to both the new and old town, and a very short and easy walk to the gondola and supermarkets. You will not regret booking here if you're just after a skiing holiday with somewhere pleasant to stay. The staff are wonderful. It's a very cosy, family-run hotel and the family that own it are the loveliest, warmest, most welcoming hoteliers I've ever met. They do everything they can to make your stay easy and comfortable and are very personable. We felt like we were old friends the entire time, they're always happy to have a chat to you. There are a few things to be aware of - we booked this hotel and were excited for the excellent views everyone has mentioned. We paid a little extra for the 'premium apartment' which was very large, had a good sized kitchen, a second bathroom and a very large living area. However, we were disappointed to find we were in the basement, and our view was of a brick wall sunk into the ground. We kept the curtains closed the whole time as people on the street could easily see in, and the curtains themselves are translucent, so be aware of this if you have the lights on and are getting changed, as you can clearly see through them from the street. Our room had an en-suite bath, however the hot water ran out very, very quickly. I suspect, given the cost of energy, this is an energy saving measure and totally understandable, however it did mean we both had very rapid showers and when we wanted a bath, we had to fill the kettle multiple times to warm the bath water. The spa itself is small but very nicely decorated and the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were perfect after a days snowboarding. I had the place mostly to myself while I was there and it was incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend the spa if you visit! There's also a small but surprisingly well-equipped gym for those who still have energy after skiing.Breakfast was unusual to us Brits, however it seems to be homely Bulgarian-style meals. I had a variety of hot sausage/meats, eggs & cheeses, and some sweet, pasta-based breakfast buns I'd never had before. Coffee was available from the machine but had an odd hazelnut aftertaste. It did the trick though. Again, for the money you're paying, having a large selection of breakfast options is good value.Despite the odd quirks of the room, we would definitely stay again when we next visit Bansko.
