    Rude bus driver

    rating12 Mar 2026

Terrible. The bus driver was rude and unhelpful Christian Ivanov, General Manager at Lion Hotel, responded to this review Dear Sir/Madam,Thank you for your review and for sharing your experience with us. I am truly sorry to see you are so disappointed with our service and the bus driver in particular. I wish there were some more details about the situation you encountered that made you write this review. What and when exactly happened so I can deduct which of the three bus drivers we have is rude and unhelpful and act accordingly. If you are still in the hotel you can reach to me and let me know what happened and I would be very grateful. After all the purpose of the reviews is to provide feedback and help us change and improve our service and not simply to punish the hotel when one is not happy with a certain staff member.Sincerely, Christian Ivanov GM

    Great stay, highly recommend

    rating07 Mar 2026

Great week skiing as a couple in our early 20s. We chose this hotel as we had stayed in Bansko Hotel Lion and loved it so wanted to try here. Large and warm room on top floor. Food was excellent throughout our stay, so many options to choose from. Pancakes at breakfast were 👌. Plenty of tea , coffee and juices as-well. Staff were all nice and friendly, specially the bus drivers and waitresses at dinner. Quiet and peaceful at night (needed after a full day of skiing). We personally didn’t use spa or pool but heard good things about it. Gym was small but useful on bad weather days which we only had once. Overall a great hotel, would highly recommend. Christian Ivanov, General Manager at Lion Hotel, responded to this review Dear Sir/Madam,Thank you so much for the great review, it really means a lot to us and we are happy to see you had a wonderful time during your vacation at the Lion Borovets! We would be looking forward to seeing you again next winter!Sincerely, Christian Ivanov GM

    Enjoyable, but noisy, stay

    rating24 Feb 2026

We enjoyed a great week in Borovets as a family of 3. The Lion Hotel is approx 15-20 mins easy walk from the main Gondola. We mainly used the shuttle bus to get to the resort centre, but there is no queue system (saw an adult male pushing women and children out of the way in an attempt to get on the bus (on this occasion the driver had a word and he had to wait for the next one). People storing ski/snowboard equipment at the hotel had a bit of a problem, as even if first there, by the time they had secured skis in rack at back of bus, they then couldn’t fit onto bus as everyone else had jumped in. At peak time they often had 2 shuttle buses running, so not a long wait for next one. Food at the hotel was good. There was always something tasty at the buffet and we ate well all week. Drinks were good in the dining hall with wine, beer, juices, coffee and tea all available as part of half board package. The hotel was full so the restaurant got busy, but food was plentiful. Rooms are pretty basic and very warm. We had a very wet day on the first day and all ski wear was soaked, only one towel rail and one radiator, so difficult to get all our clothes/boots dry for next day. We often slept with our window open as needed to dry clothes but rooms were hot. Corridors were noisy at night, more an issue with the guests than the hotel. A lot of guests did not abide by the quiet rule between 2200 and 0800. Every night there were kids (probably one particular family) running up and down the corridor shouting and screaming. The sound echoed and traveled a lot. Due to noisy nights the hotel wasn’t quite as peaceful as we were hoping, but we still had a great time. The pool, outside jacuzzi, sauna etc. were pleasant to use especially if you can use during the day when other guests are skiing. Christian Ivanov, General Manager at Lion Hotel, responded to this review Dear Debbie,Thank you for the kind and thoughtful review. The hotel could be a bit noisy when fully occupied, I completely agree. I am glad that despite this inconvenience you had a great stay with us. It would be a pleasure to welcome you again next winter! Sincerely, Christian Ivanov GM

Great Hotel in a winter wonderland.

    rating20 Feb 2026

Stayed for a week, Feb 2026 half term. Really nice hotel. We had a family room on the 4th floor, biggest hotel room i've had on a winter holiday. Set in a woodland surrounding about 20 min walk from the main action and slopes, but they run a free bus from 830 to 530. Taxi about 6 euro so i was told. You could not walk in ski boots, not unless you have a death wish! Its a quiet retreat away from the noise of the main area so I suppose it depends what type of holiday you want. There's nothing around the hotel shop wise so get what you need in town. Staff are fine, not rude, just a different culture. Food great and lots of it. Free beer, wine, coffee, tea and soft drinks with meals. Bar prices are good. 3 EURO for a beer at the hotel. Bar area is cosy with a nice open fire. Minibar in the room has a few bits but it's chargeable. Spa and pool are nice. Sauna, steam, relaxation room, outdoor hot tub, outdoor sauna. Gym is useless, can't even call it a gym. Its the only thing that let's the hotel down. Massages are a reasonable price too compared to home prices, and the lady is a lot stronger than she looks ! Hire robes from reception 6 euro for your stay. Pool towels are free just by entrance to pool area. Ski storage room at front of hotel but no boot warmers.I'd definitely recommend and go back to this hotel. As for the resort, skiing is ok. Beginners slopes from the top of the 6 person back to the main area by the Rila are rammed with lessons, but it was half term so...Gondola side was good but hit and miss on the weather effecting the Gondola being open. If there's a massive queue for the Gondola then there's a silver minibus stop on the main road by the Gondola entrance which will take you to a 4 person chair with no queues and get you on the same mountain. Beautiful tree lined runs everywhere. Not many places to eat and use toilets on the mountain. Good job there's lots of trees. Snowpark was a bit rubbish. One run, 2 jumps, 2 boxes.Lots of places to eat and drink in the main area. Prices in resort reasonable compared to France etc. If you want to be in the thick of it 24/7 then stay at the Rila, but if you want to party then chill then this is a good choice. Id say this is a family hotel, not groups of party animals. Im sad to be leaving. Christian Ivanov, General Manager at Lion Hotel, responded to this review Dear Sir/Madam,Thank you so much for the incredible review. We are really happy to see that you had a great vacation with us and it will be our pleasure to welcome you again next winter!Sincerely, Christian Ivanov GM
