    Nice hotel rubbish food

    rating12 Jun 2025

The hotel itself is welcoming and clean, as is the bar and restaurant. The pool is kept immaculately clean and the pool area is cleaned every day by the team of housekeepers. The staff are pretty miserable if I'm honest, you ask for 2 cokes and they look at you like you've got 2 heads, they can't pour a beer to save their lives and if they did crack a smile it would be a miracle! There was one waiter who was so helpful and he was always smiling but he was the only one, reception and waiting/bar housekeeping all speak very little English so communication is difficult. Our room was spotless very clean, housekeeper came in when we needed them to gave the place a once over and left us fresh towels. The food wasn't the best if you were lucky to get to it when it first came out then it's hot otherwise lukewarm at best, it's repetitive and not the greatest, there's no decorum or manners in the restaurant it's just a free for all, people pushing and shoving, people racing to get food as soon as it opens, then coming out with plate up on plate of food so other people are having to wait for fresh food to cook and come out. Breakfast was mainly eggs, scrambled and boiled, the scrambled egg looked like it was swimming in milk and the boiled eggs were a nightmare to peel, the bread was stale so hard to eat toasted or not, there were beans and little hot dog things, pasta and lots of salad (yes at breakfast ) lunch was again just repetitive sometimes chips, lots of pork dishes, musaka, smash with sausages mixed in, we found most of it edible at best but it wasn't the greatest! The drinks are their own local brand you get given a small plastic cup others were getting glass so not sure how they were working it tbh, no entertainment just a speaker at the side of the bar. There's one restaurant and bar for the whole hotel and one toilet poolside, there are toilets in reception but you have to walk all the way round the hotel to get into reception. I'd say overall it's not a bad hotel I'd say it's probably not geared up for the English. Other than the food and how far away it is from flower street I'd say overall it's not the worst hotel it's certainly not somewhere I'd go to again however. Had a lovely week but I can categorically say I won't be back to hotel calypso!

Clean Hotel, and that was the best bit

    rating30 Oct 2024

Just got back from 2 weeks here, OMG never again, Hotel was clean and the cleaners were nice and friendly, but now the downsides, food was the same everyday and poorly cooked, I even had a piece of wood inside a sausage and chef didn't seem bothered. Hotel only had 1 bar which was outside so got cold in the evening, miserable woman behind bar that actually put us off going for drinks, and we did get some drinks they were that strong that they became undrinkable. Reception pretty miserable as well, also told us not to use taxis outside it was cheaper for them to ring, not true as they get a kickback from the drivers. Plenty of restaurants around that do great food and drink, but when you're all inclusive it's an extra expense.

    Wouldn't go again

Just got back from here yesterday. The staff hate English, do not want to help or speak to you if possible. Had the police called on a group of brits drinking at 9:15 at night for been too loud, police came told us we was ok until 11. Next 2 nights other nationalities were louder, chanting and had music blaring and nothing was said to them. Food was same most days chicken not cooked, nothing really if anyone took kids with them as soon as you put a piece of cutlery down they wpuld take your plate whether you was finished or not. Pool freezing cold and smelt funny. Woman behind bar does not crack a smile. The man behind is smiley and friendly. None of them can make a good cocktail, was more like drinking petrol was that strong. Security man or more like a gnome was sleazy.

    Hotel calypso Bulgaria

    rating15 Oct 2024

Where do I start! What a sh*t show, my room had two leaks coming through the ceiling and had all water marks where it’s been left prior for so long I ask to change room but they do not want to help you at all, I was bitten each night in my sleep from bed bugs but I had spoken to other people who were there in the hotel and someone said they had a cockroach in the bed, the cleaners don’t speak a word of English so they either didn’t understand I asked for cleaned towels and to change my bedding but never did, the staff are miserable and rude we asked to order a pizza and a taxi and they wouldn’t and wouldn’t give us a number, the pools never been cleaned there was an ash trey and buts in there the whole week, we asked for a single and they make it a quad, sounds good but then when your getting loud and enjoying yourself your told to be quiet every 5 mins they are aggressive to 8 armed police came through our door with guns because we smashed a glass by accident and the bar tender got all funny and aggressive and called the police, the food has the be the worst thing on the planet, prison food is definitely better the smell in the morning is enough to make you want to go home, we also heard of other people in the hotel money was going missing when the cleaners were coming in, would NOT recommend hotel calypso at all! I could go on

Women - Beware of vile lifeguard Stoyan !!!!

    rating17 Sept 2024

Very honest reviewHotel ***Let me start by saying the hotel itself was OK. Our stay in general was good. The staff do not know very much English, but if you build a relationship with them, then they will try their best to assist you. The food was nice mostly, very similar each day, so did get repetitive. The AI drinks were very average, only local sports, beer and wine. The cocktails were the worst I've had at an AI. Hotel very clean, pool area always clean enough and also whilst we were there, never an issue to get a bed. Hotel is very small, but it does have everything you need really. No beach / pool towels provided, and very small plastic cups for around the pool, recommend taking your own larger cup to use, which I did and they were fine about filling it up. Only one bar, near pool, and it closes bang on 11pm, no exceptions. Nice chilled area near front of the hotel. Very close to beach, 5-10 minute stroll to Cacao beach. You pay for sunbeds and parasols on the beach, 10 levs each. Buses very easy to get, main bus stop nearby is near the bakery just 2-3 minutes down the road, and only 2 levs to get the bus to either Sinny Beach on one side, or to Nessebar the other way. If you want to know anything else that I have missed, please just ask.Excursions - Terrible options at this time of year I found. Not much to do. I would highly recommend Khan's tent, and a day trip to Nessebar old town. Eco bar was unfortunately tell already shut when we visited.Sunny beach was good for a night out.Nessebar old and new town both very very quiet, more for an evening meal.PLEASE READ!!OK, so now is the important part! The reason I gave my review a 1 star is because I left this hotel with a swollen / black eye, 3 scuff / shoe marks on my face, sand / grit still in eyes, and 2 lumps on the back of my head. Please, women, do not trust the lifeguard Stoyan. He pursued me for 10 days. Then on the very last day, we met to say goodbye and his 'wife' grabbed my hair from behind and began to kick me in the face, head, throb and kick sand in my eyes and mouth, and punch my in the back of the head. Because of how she had come behind and grabbed my hair so tight, I was unable to do anything to stop this. This totally shook me up, and ruined my experience in Bulgaria. This may be my own fault, but getting to know this man through the hotel durong my stay, i trusted him.Whatever he says, DO NOT believe him. He is a vile creature and a totally snake. He met woth me and my family several times, and constantly messaging me and talking to me around the pool. He Brough me roses, made napkin roses, bought me meals and drinks on all nights he came out with us. We dropped him off at his own home several times, and he came to the hotel and sat with us so many times at the hotel too. There was no reason for me not to trust this man, a lifeguard at a hotel. I have today sent a formal complaint to the manager of Calypso explaining every single thing from the moment I arrived on day one of my holiday, but please, I would not want another woman to have to experience what I did yesterday, just hours before I left Bulgaria. Thank you for reading and for taking this seriously.
