    Nice hotel in a convenient walking location to downtown. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable, the decor is very bare bones, giving almost a dorm like feel.If you are on the area check out Stephen Ave with lots of nice bars and restaurants, the street is closed go traffic and makes a nice walking area.

    Good location, crazy loud street noise

    This area is very central however the late night noise from buskers that are breaking the noise ByLaws is unacceptable and crazy loud. Unless you are a very deep sleeper you will have trouble sleeping. Staff from the 3 hotels in the area should be taking it upon themselves to call police (non emergency line) every night after 10pm if buskers are still continuing to perform . This could be a great area to stay if staff just put in a bit more effort . Fellow guests should also complain to Front Desk.     I stayed at the Calgary Marriott Downtown expecting a luxury experience, especially at a price of over $300 per night before fees. Unfortunately, the stay was far from what I would consider luxury.To begin with, our double-occupancy room had only one set of towels. For a hotel that advertises itself as upscale, this is a basic detail that should never be overlooked. Even more surprising, the hotel does not provide complimentary single-use toothpaste or toothbrush sets—something I routinely receive in much cheaper hotels in developing countries. It felt like the hotel was cutting corners in all the wrong places. I won’t even mention the absence of a robe and slippers for guests—apparently, that’s too “luxurious” for this so-called luxury hotel.On top of that, the hotel charges for Wi-Fi. In 2025, in Canada, at a so-called luxury hotel, this is incredibly disappointing. Free Wi-Fi is standard almost everywhere now, even in budget accommodations. Charging guests extra for it feels outdated and out of touch. It’s truly sad to see that Canada’s standards for hotel service seem to be slipping so low.The room itself also had issues. The window was old, flimsy, and not soundproof at all. I barely slept because of loud noise from outside that continued until almost 2:00 a.m. For the price paid, I expected at least a quiet and comfortable room.The bathroom had a barn-style sliding door with a gap of about 5 cm from the side of the entrance. It severely compromises privacy and should not exist in any hotel that considers itself “luxury.”Another major disappointment was the front desk. The staff members greeting guests—including the women working during my stay—showed no warmth at all, not even a simple smile. After observing the front desk throughout my visit, I didn’t see a single moment where they smiled when interacting with guests.As a recommendation to management, I strongly suggest providing training for front desk staff to greet guests with a smile. It’s a small gesture that makes a big difference in how welcomed guests feel.Overall, this stay was a big letdown.     Disappointed by Hidden Charges and Dismissive Service

    Not What I Expect from MarriottI recently booked a 3-night stay at the Calgary Marriott Downtown and was shocked to learn that breakfast is not included even for Marriott Bonvoy Gold members. We’ve stayed at many Marriott properties where breakfast was standard or at least offered at a reasonable rate. Here, it’s $100 per night for two people, and even after I called to express my concerns, the “courtesy” offer was to reduce it to $80. That’s still outrageous.I was polite and reasonable on the phone, but the staff insisted this was their policy and that the charges were “standard.” I’ve since read other reviews with similar complaints, so this seems to be a pattern. The M Lounge is only for Platinum members, and there’s no flexibility or goodwill shown to loyal guests.This experience has left a bad taste, and I want to warn other travelers: double-check what’s included before you book. There are better options in Calgary that treat guests with more fairness and transparency.
