    Chic Stay in Parksville

    rating22 Apr 2026

This is a very nice place to stay in Parksville. It has a chic vibe and lots of amenities. Best of all, the staff are super friendly and helpful. The resort is getting all spiffed up for the season. There will also be a fabulous outdoor patio seating area for the restaurant. The landscaping is being improved (not that it really needed it) and it's looking great.

BRING EARPLUGS or don’t book this hotel if noise is an issue.

    rating05 Sept 2025

Is a hotel responsible for the behaviour of their guests? Mostly not, but when the noise level is disruptive to the point that you feel the need to leave the hotel to get some peace and quiet – then I would say yes. Unfortunately, this was my experience at the Bayside.I came to get away and have a relaxing evening/night and booked the ocean view king room. Thinking that it would be a calm and serene space. Based on the photos and being a local having have heard great things about the hotel. While I got a resident rate, it is still a premium price. And one where you wouldn’t expect to have noise and partying like there was a frat party going on.Aside from that, there are other things you need to know before you book the hotel. The first is a consent to anyone else that is even slightly sound sensitive. The ocean facing rooms are above or adjacent to the open air restaurant which is open till 11 PM. It is popular it is loud, you will hear the music And all of the guests. Normally I would think with the clientele it would be like an average restaurant, but this night – no go. It was rowdy! Even with the balcony door closed and air unit on, I heard peoples conversation, the bass of music thumping, and what was like a large group having a party. Now, of course you never know what you’re going to get when you book a hotel, but considering the smaller town location and the fact that it was a Wednesday night in September past holidays, it was a surprise. In addition to the restaurant, there is also people on the balconies, whatever the party group was that was going back-and-forth between rooms on my floor, and the one above, made enough noise that I actually left the property for the majority of the evening just to get some quiet. Imagine paying all that money for a room and then spending the evening in your car.Unfortunately, my room was on the second floor. It was like being in a turn of the century boarding house with wooden floors and paper walls. You could hear the footfalls of the people above and even across the hall, conversations were clear, coughing, sneezing, loud TVs, and the base of music all evening .When the toilet flushes or the shower is used, it sounds like it’s in your own room. Plus every time room above opened or closed their sliding glass door, the sound and vibration resonated down. You can hear everything that is going on and every foot fall. While I would expect this at the strip mall hotels across the way, I surely did not here, which is double the cost.*Also of note and something I’ve never experienced in a hotel stay – housekeeping starts very early! No need for an alarm clock, because by 9 AM they were already knocking on the doors and vacuuming, and I was on the second floor.I understand that many people are early birds and this is not an issue for them, but it was for me having been up till 2 AM because of the noise.I’ve never been to a hotel warehouse housekeeping started before checkout. It just seemed odd. But maybe it’s the new thing .Let’s talk about the room. It’s OK. It’s a standard room with standard amenities. It looks like the photos which means they are recent so that’s good. There’s a balcony that faces the ocean and maybe if you came in the off-season, you can actually hear it. For the most part quite clean, but housekeeping missed some vitals like a strobe like flickering light in the bathroom you can’t adjust, an almost empty toilet paper roll and toilet which was not cleaned properly and had an odor. King size bed had clean linens and enough pillows for a party of eight. But the mattress, like too many hotels these days, is on its last life. Best way to describe it is like two tacos side-by-side. Unless you like a very soft bed and sleeping in a hammock, it’s not comfortable. There is a desk/office section with a chair if you need it and a nice rocking lounger with a footrest. Large sized TV with casting ability and Wi-Fi is excellent. Good quality Nespresso machine and a mini fridge, which is appreciated. Decent robes, but no slippers??The hotel propertyThe property is actually beautifully done – clean and modern feeling. However, I think this is a two star hotel that was purchased by a group that is trying to elevate it. There are a lot of cosmetic upgrades, but none of the foundational. Again, there is no soundproofing at all. even walking down the hall to the room, you could hear people above and their footfalls so loudly I actually stopped to turn around, thinking it was people behind me only to discover it was on the floor above.Other than that, some of the pros include beautiful landscaping and a nice walk out to the ocean, a fantastic pool area. It is heated, has deck chairs, and an ample quantity so that there is seating for a lot of people. While I did not eat at the restaurant, it was consistently busy and people seemed very happy. The menu has a great offerings suitable for a wide variety of food and specialty diet options. A few locally sourced food options. I know many people who come to this hotel just for the restaurant and have raved about it.Front desk staff were great. Friendly, knowledgable and ready to help. Except they went MIA after 8 PM. (Not available by phone and when I went down, there was only a bell and nobody around at the moment ) Probably trying to wrangle all the noise complaints!Likely most people who come will have a better experience. And it’s frustrating that I came here specifically for quiet and wasn’t able to get it.I will note that I did gather the courage to ask to be moved to a new room – but I was told there were none available other than one that looked at the parking lot and roof. Yet previous to asking, I had checked the balconies and the room floor to see if one of them might be available. There were no signs of life so I’m not sure if that was the case and they were just sitting empty or if people were checking in very late. Regardless, it would’ve been nice to have been offered an option to upgrade. And to be clear, I am not talking about getting a freebie. I would’ve paid more to not have to listen to all the noise! Instead I chose to leave the property for most of the evening so I could relax a little. And that makes me both sad and angered at having to do that considering the cost of the room and the fact that all I wanted was somewhere quiet and peaceful to unwind, instead of creating more stress and then being unable to sleep until 2 AM from the noise and then being woken up at 8:45 AM with the housekeeping, vacuuming and knocking on every door. They leave the door wide open when they are working. Fair enough but honestly doing that before 10 AM is odd to me.Also, in the morning there was a staff member who had not been there the night before. Obviously not trained with what to do when there are complaints. I didn’t get any eye contact and just an “oh that’s too bad it happened. I’ll make a note for your next stay. “ if you’re going to try and be a four or five star hotel – you need to offer that level of service. And this surely did not cut it. It just made me angry and never want to come back again. So it’s a tough one.Overall, a nice property with some regular hotel complaints you could find anywhere. But the lack of soundproofing means I won’t be back and other than the restaurant that people enjoy, I wouldn’t recommend it to stay.If you’re not bothered by “people noise “you won’t have any problems and you’ll enjoy your stay. Otherwise bring earplugs and maybe noise cancelling headphones to wear over them.ROOM TIP: if booking an oceanfront room, try to get the top floor and as far away from the restaurant as possible. Great stay in King room with Amazing Views

    rating15 Aug 2025

When booking from our Vancouver home we knew this hotel was on the older side but our stay exceeded our expectation. We had the King with view and the upgraded room was good but the lovely views makes this room even better. Bed was very comfortable - evenings were quiet with very little noise from neighbors. We had our small dog with us make mention when you book as they have some dog friendly rooms. We stayed two relaxing nights and loved the covered patio with comfortable chairs - even with a little rain it was a great picture perfect patio. We had dinner the first night and breakfast the last morning in their restaurant - make a reso as it can get busy on weekends. We got a great view table and we really enjoyed our meals. For dinner shared the seafood linguini and a salad bowl and prices for food and wine were quite reasonable. Overall we would stay again - this older hotel is clean and well maintained and you can see they work hard to keep it upgraded. Views are amazing and comparatively prices hard to beat. Thanks for great stay!*Note that we had read and it seems true that most guests have to wait until 3pm or later to get their rooms. We arrived at 2:45 and went to the lounge and waited - they really should take a cell number to let you know when the room is ready as we had to go wait in line again to ask after 3:30 - most hotels will text you when room is ready. Marc Terrillon, Marketing at Bayside Resort, Ascend Hotel Collection, responded to this review Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful review! We’re so glad to hear your stay exceeded expectations and that you enjoyed the views, dining, and dog-friendly touches. It’s wonderful that you found time to relax on the covered patio and that both dinner and breakfast were highlights. We appreciate your feedback about room readiness and communication—this is helpful as we continue to improve the guest experience. We’d love to welcome you and your pup back for another relaxing visit by the ocean.
