    Great stay

    An excellent day with really friendly staff, great views and a very large corner room. Someone was complaining about the breakfast staff but we didn’t find a problem. We were particularly warmly greeted when we arrived. The only fault, in our view was the singer in the bar who could perhaps have done with being less loud and more tuneful, but that may be down to personal taste. A very convenient place to stay before the ferry back to Victoria. David McQuinn, General Manager at Coast Bastion Hotel, responded to this review I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. I saw your note about the lounge entertainers volume, I am sorry. We just expanded live entertainment to 4 nights a week and one of our new performers obviously missed the directions.     Great views

    We stayed for 3 nights on a short weekend getaway. We had a King Suite with an ocean view, and I must say, we had a really good view (12th floor). The hotel was quiet, despite being close to a couple loud venues. The downtown location is convenient, located near the Hullo Ferry terminal and Departure Bay. Definitely a 5/5! When we renovated we installed modern double pane windows and they do make a difference. As well, thank you for reminding guests about HULLO, it is such a amazing way to get to Nanaimo. With the improvements we've made to downtown, we are a walkable city, with lots to do and we want everyone to come for a visit.

    Warm welcome but areas to improve

    We booked this hotel for a stopover after a long day of travelling prior to boarding the ferry. We could not have asked for a warmer welcome from the front desk. There three ladies were so friendly and instantly made me feel at ease, including explaining how the rooms we had booked were beautiful. They even allowed the children to select a small treat.The room itself had a beautiful view over the harbour. Lots of natural light and very spacious. There are signs around the hotel saying that the rooms have been renovated. Unfortunately, the bathroom did not indicate this. The plug was extremely discoloured and did not fit in the hole correctly meaning it could not be used for our children. There was also a friendly silver fish in the bath! We attempted to use the restaurant for evening meal but no tables were available. Breakfast was not worth the money paid and the waiter was not as warm and welcoming as the front desk team. Pros:Spacious room.Huge TV.Beautiful view.Front desk team.Areas to improve:Parking. There is no onsite parking. Instead you park in designated spaces in a public car park. This was open to the public and had a strong smell of urine.Bathrooms need modernising.More capacity in the restaurant with a greater focus on welcoming service and better quality food. I did see your notes, I am sorry. I will say that maintenance is in the process of changing out all the drains in the tubs with units with built in plugs. Its simply taking too long to complete. Our restaurant is extremely popular with both locals and convention guests. The challenge with being popular is that we are often full in the evening.     Wonderful Stay at the Coast Bastion

    I was down in Nanaimo for a 2 day workshop. I decided to stay at this hotel and it was a good choice.The reception was friendly and they gave me a room on the 15th floor with a small balcony overlooking the harbour. A comfortable king bed , small couch and coffee table plus a desk all in a fairly large room.Very pleased!The in hotel restaurant was also very good.     Amazing Stay

    My husband and I were really impressed with the entire experience at the Coast Bastion. Everyone was friendly and helpful and responded immediately when we needed more Kleenex and help with the TV. Our room was large and well equipped with a beautiful view of the ocean and mountains.The hotel was recently renovated so everything was new and modern. The bathroom was a good size and beautifully equipped. The towels were plentiful and there were oversized bath towels as well. There were lots of towel racks to hang up our towels so they could dry and daily replacement was not necessary. The shower/tub was equipped with grab bars and the soap/ shampoo products were excellent and large volume containers. There was a magnifying mirror as well. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows excellent. It was a bonus to have an excellent restaurant available in the hotel as well. All in all our stay could not be improved upon.
