Another fantastic stay at the Birchwood Inn, BW Premier Collection.

    rating02 May 2026

Another fantastic stay at the Birchwood Inn, BW Premier Collection. We had just returned to Canada after six months abroad—we winter in Thailand—and, as always, this is our go-to hotel when leaving and coming home. What truly sets this place apart is the staff. On a previous stay, we mentioned our annual trip to Thailand and a side trip to India. This time, at check-in, we were welcomed back and asked not only how our trip was—but specifically how India was. That level of attention is rare. It’s moments like that which remind me why we’ve been staying here for over 40 years. The team here is genuinely engaged, attentive, and makes you feel like family. In today’s world, that kind of service is hard to find. Birchwood Inn delivers it every time.

Weird gaps in the set up of the room

    rating01 Mar 2026

We went to the Birchwood Inn for a couples weekend. The staff were all kind and accommodating. There were lots of kids as they have a water park. There were a number of weird things about the hotel though--the fitness centre is in with the pool, but the pool doesn't open until 8 am, while the fitness centre is open earlier. That means that every morning you have to go down the lobby and then they radio someone who eventually meets you at the pool to let you in. They were nice about it, but it takes an extra 10 minutes. The gym equipment is also a little old and a number of items were rusty. There are some weird elements of this room that seem to suggest their interior designer did not think things through. We stayed in an executive suite. I picked it for the fireplace--I really wanted a fireplace. It does have a dual-sided fireplace, but it puts off zero heat. It's basically a glorified fireplace show. Other weird things--the handsoap is at least 6 feet from the bathroom sink (and is mounted to the wall so can't move). Also, presumably to let light into the bathroom, the shower has a glass wall. That means that if one person gets up to use the washroom, light streams into the bedroom. The garbage cans are 2 inches too tall for the bathroom, so they end up out in the middle of the room, and can't tuck under the counter. There was also no clothing storage and minimal closet space. We ended up draping our clothing items over the kitchen counter. The laminate floors mean you also can't lounge in front of the fireplace (although again--no heat). The jacuzzi was a little awkward in its configuration, but that's likely due to the manufacturer. The room did have a balcony, which would be great in the summer. The toiletries were underwhelming given that this was supposed to be "premier collection" hotel (Dove). Noise transfer was a bit of an issue.Even with a do not disturb sign up, a member of housekeeping, came into the room. I did appreciate the recycling bins. It's nice that there's underground parking--especially in winter. The location is good.

    It’s a downgraded Holiday Inn

    rating10 Oct 2025

Having stayed here a lot when it was a Holiday Inn, I expected that under new ownership, especially being under the Best Western Premier Collection, it would be new and improved; instead its old, dirty, and dated. There have been no improvements to the property. The beds, TV, and furniture are old and worn. The crazy part? They got rid of the included breakfast in favour of an expensive pay breakfast. It’s insane! Also, are you a new couple who still likes a bit of bathroom privacy? Don’t stay here. The barn doors to the bathroom don’t close all the way and have gaps. You can literally see right into the bathroom because of the placement of mirrors. What a strange choice. This hotel is now a downgraded Holiday Inn, but without the status from Holiday Inn. I should have travelled a bit gather and stayed at the Holiday Inn. Now, you’re paying a premium price for a subpar experience.

Meh - it’s fine. Be very cautious in the pool area! I was injured

    rating13 Sept 2025

This hotel is average. The rooms are fine. We found some hairs in the bedding and on the towels but I assumed they were from the cleaning staff as the room was clean. There is no continental breakfast, but there is a restaurant that serves breakfast. It’s a bit expensive ($58 for two adults) so we only ate there once during our 5 night stay. The pool area is great for kids! We didn’t have any kids with us but with the play centre and pools, I know kids would love it. One warning: be very careful around the pool area. I fell on the stairs between the main pool and the kiddie pool and got hurt pretty badly. I am very very bruised on my rear end, elbow, back and have a mild concussion from hitting my head on the stair. Be very careful! There seemed to be a lot of smokers at the hotel and piles of spit all over which grossed me out. The location of the hotel is great for me and what I was in the city for so I’ll likely stay again but if you don’t need to be in that specific area, you could find a better hotel.

    Nice overnight stay

    rating06 May 2025

I booked the 1 bedroom suite for my granddaughters birthday. We had been 2 years prior for hed birthday as well. The suite was very spacious with a full kitchen and separate bedroom with 2 queen beds..The pool, hot tub and huge jungle gym we're great keeping the kids busy. Room was clean and had everything you would need for a stay. My only suggestion is that the hotel should have either movie rentals available or a blue ray or something else for entertainment after the pool closes. The hotel over all is well appointed and clean.
