Great stay and friendly reception at the Carlton

    rating22 Apr 2026

We had a lovely stay at the Carlton. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The rooftop view is terrific and the Egyptian breakfast was on point. The rooms were clean and quiet, the bathrooms were modern and we didn't have any complaints. This place is really a relic from a previous era in the best sense - dark wood paneling, formal seating in the lobby, vintage photographs but also wooden floors that have rough patches and carpet that is threadbare in some places. You can't really have one without the other - you wouldn't put in modern carpet or tile floors with all the wood paneling. It would detract from the charm. Location is great. Definitely would come back

    Comfortable hotel downtown

    rating08 Mar 2026

Nice hotel, central location (near Nasser metro station). Dated but clean and spacious rooms, comfortable beds. Provided with complementary bottled water and coffee/tea facilities. The rooms were cleaned daily. Attentive staff, answered our questions and arranged airport transfer. Convenient rooftop bar to get some wine/beer during Ramadan. Good breakfast (Egyptian or continental). Excellent bakery in front of the hotel. A bit noisy at night (iftar) but that was expected. Great value overall and highly recommended

A memorable vintage wonderland with 5 star staff

    rating03 Dec 2025

What a wonderful place! It really is like staying in the set of a 1930s movie. So beautiful, romantic and, despite its age, spotlessly clean. It might not be for everybody but for us it was like a fantasy world. A boutique stay at very reasonable prices. One of the most wonderful things was the rooftop bar, which has also been there since 1935. A beer at sunset above the wild, chaotic busy, honking streets of Cairo is the best, in your own little vintage oasis above the city. They also have a pool table and a piano! Tourist sights like the National Museum are nearby and it's so easy to catch an Uber elsewhere (like the new GEM) because it's so central. Additionally although this hotel is a 3 star, the staff are 6 star...nothing is too much trouble, everything is cleaned and polished and there's always somebody asking if they can help. They are the absolute best. The only downside really is the noise from the street outside. Everywhere in Cairo is like this and it's not the hotel's fault but if you are a light sleeper (we had no problem and also had earplugs) you might restrict yourself to one night. But if you're into something a little different and definitely romantic, do spend at least one night here, it's a vintage delight that should be supported.

    Retro Hotel

    rating11 Apr 2025

We popped in for a beer and loved the old school vibe. Felt very 1950s! The team were polite and friendly. The lift was an experience and the beers reasonably priced. The decor was very retro. A place with history! The sunset from the roof bar was awesome! Definitely worth a visit.

    Great ambience and character

    rating23 Feb 2025

Lots of old school style and charm in the hotel's public places. No wonder there was a film crew and production unit shooting a tv drama for several of the days I stayed. The rooms themselves are a little in need of attention, though. I had two, because they showed me into a horrible little interior one at first, before providing me with my allotted classic double room, which was much bigger, brighter and outward facing. But still a little dilapidated. The rooftop terrace for dining was nice.At breakfast, choose the Egyptian rather than the Continental, as you will receive a much more filling and tasty selection.
