Location

Ideally located for shopping and the joy of the beach, this beach hotel is 200 m from the Rocher de la Vierge, the Museum of the Sea and the 'Great Beach of the Basques', as it is called by its surfers. The city centre of Biarritz can be reached by guests in 10 minutes on foot. The beach is about 50 m from the hotel, and public transport is around 1000 m away. The hotel is also a privileged starting point for numerous excursions to discover this wonderful Basque country where life is so enjoyable. Biarritz - Anglet - Bayonne Airport is located roughly 5 km from the hotel.

Facility

21 double rooms are available to guests in a 4-storey main building and a 3-storey auxiliary building. The friendly staff at the reception desk are happy to answer any questions. A cloakroom, a baggage storage service and a safe are available. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities and a lift. There are a number of shops as well. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional amenities include a TV room and a playroom. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. Rooms

Air conditioning and individually adjustable heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. A balcony is included as standard in some rooms. Rooms have a double bed or a king-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. A hairdryer and a telephone are available in the bathrooms, which are equipped with a shower and a bathtub. For extra comfort in the bathrooms, guests are offered cosmetic products. The outdoor pool complex provides invigorating refreshment. A short break or an entire afternoon on the sun terrace, which features sun loungers and parasols, is time well spent.     We arrived as group of 5 friends who had all booked single rooms. We took the bus from the airport. This was easy. The hotel easy to find on foot after the bus. The staff were all so friendly & professional. Luke & George & a female receptionist Emma (I think) were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were clean & comfy. Three of us were in a different building about 400m away. No problem. All were in city centre. Easy to walk to all the places we wanted to go. Fabulous. Highly recommend.

    Let me start by thanking the Alfred Hotel Manager for refunding part of our accomdation costs as we were super dissapointed by the whole Alfred Hotel experience,5 stars for location and 1 star for room,Location is excellent for Dining, Shopping, Aquarium, Rocher de la Vierge, beaches, Out of the hotels we have stayed in France and around the world this is the 2nd worst hotel we have stayed in, the Bedroom is a shoebox the ensuite is tiny and the space between the toilet seat and the wall and door is unacceptable you must leave the door slightly ajar to sit properly, anyone with mobility issues would not be able to use the toilet, Our Main Bedroom Ensuite in our home is larger than the Alfred Hotel Bedroom and Ensuite combined,There is no signage for people who visit for the first time, the GPS in our vehicle with the address we had inputted for the reception was informing my wife and I that we had arrived but could see no real large signage with Alfred Hotel name, no clear indication of where the hotel was,I finally used Google maps on my phone to find reception I had to walk over a kilometre and had to lug 1 large suitcase 19Kg's down 85 steps and then lug another medium suitcase 13Kg's down the 87 steps again, our dog, dog's bedding food bags up and down 87 steps 4 times, a person with mobility issues could not have done what I had done, The street that allows people to drive down has a block of houses and shops between this street and the street that the reception is located, so the reception building is blocked from view stopping anyone visually looking for the Alfred Hotel,Parking is impossible to find close to the hotel someone can walk anywhere from 1 to 2 k's , anyone with mobility issue's will struggle with distance and climbing up the stairs of the hotel entrance which is the secondary building not where the reception is located,Better training of staff, biggest missing factor empathy and could use further training with Customer Service skill set, sadly missing how to descalate, I requested a larger room offered to pay extra, the Alfred Hotel staff member did not even attempt to check if there was a larger room on offer just treated me like an idiot, the staff member stated I had the biggest room which I knew was not accurate, When I brought up that I had food for our dog and milk for our coffee the suggestion was to use the fridge in the lower rooms where people can sit and make coffee or play games, this suggestion was concerning, my immediate thought was what happens if someone ate my Dog's food and became sick ,as well as I was not here to supply all the guests with Milk for their coffee's or cereals, Room had no fridge, Room had an airconditioner with a remote but you could not use it as the Alfred Hotel controlled the temperature, which we were forced to keep the windows open for cooling, downside is you can hear all the traffic from 5.00a.m in the morning,Alfred Hotel had the usual hotel scratchy towels, but towels were like cardboard were not even soft, My suggestion for people with mobility issues is not to stay at this hotel or any other hotel near the beach, as parking is near impossible to find and the under ground car parks are quite a walk away, Hôtel Georges VI Biarritz, Propriétaire at Alfred Hotels, responded to this review Dear Mr. Evans,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.First of all, we would like to remind you that we are a 3-star hotel. We do not present ourselves as a luxury or high-end property. Our service is simple, practical and in line with our category. Our goal is to offer clean and comfortable accommodation in the center of Biarritz at a fair price.Regarding accessibility, we do have PRM (reduced mobility) rooms available when needed. However, this was not mentioned in your reservation. You selected an entry-level room category, and this is the room you were allocated. The room measures 14m², which is standard and generally sufficient for two people and a dog.Concerning parking and your camper van, parking in the very center of Biarritz is indeed complicated. As clearly stated at the time of booking, we do not have private parking, like most hotels in the city center. Finding space for a camper van in central Biarritz can therefore be challenging. During your check-in, I personally did my best to help you find a solution. Unfortunately, when public parking is full, it is simply full.As for your GPS issue, no other guests have reported difficulty locating the hotel. It may be helpful to ensure your vehicle’s GPS system is updated.Regarding your request for a larger room, we were fully booked that evening. Within the room category you reserved, you were in the largest room available. The other available rooms in different categories were either sold out or smaller.Yes, our rooms and bathrooms are compact. This is visible in the photos on Booking and Google. We are not a palace hotel. We are located in historic buildings dating back to 1892, which explains the layout and room sizes. They are designed for short stays in Biarritz and are generally considered adequate by most of our guests.We do not provide refrigerators in rooms, as this is not required for a 3-star hotel. A shared refrigerator is available in the common area. It encourages shared use of space, which many guests appreciate. Concerning your dog’s food, it is highly unlikely that anyone would consume clearly labeled pet food stored in the fridge.About the air conditioning, the room you occupied is not centrally controlled. A remote control is available in the room to adjust both heating and cooling. After your departure, we verified that the system was fully functional.Regarding the towels, we use a well-known French brand widely supplied in hotels across France. We are sorry if the texture did not meet your personal preference.Finally, we would like to address one important point. At the end of your stay, despite your dissatisfaction, our director refunded €150 out of the €600 paid, as a gesture of goodwill. We were therefore disappointed to see the same negative review copied and posted across four different platforms.     Not the rooms we ordered

    We had arrived after an exhausting morning of travelling and checked into the lobby front desk. They were quite nice and took us to our rooms. The first thing we noticed was how different they were to how we booked. The ceilings were unbelievably low and the bathrooms were tiny. It wasn’t what the photos were at all. The decorations looked somewhat the same but the room didn’t. We immediately went back down to the front desk. We had to speak to 3 different employees before we got anywhere. When we finally did we got moved across the road to a building where the rooms did look like the ones online, with high ceilings and a bigger bathroom. We felt a lot happier in these rooms but the situation was not okay. This caused a lot of distress for us and our friends. They had booked at the exact same hotel and when asked if they could move to the same floor as us a while out to arrival they were told they weren’t even in the same building as us even though we had booked together. This had caused them to move hotels. I am not happy with this service as the only thing we wanted was to have a happy and relaxing time in Biarritz.

    A lovely hotel in a great location! The room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. They arranged transportation both from the airport on arrival and to the train station for departure. Breakfast was delicious! We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Biarritz.
