Obviously, the lustre of the French Riviera does not extend to every address

    rating21 Feb 2026

The set is undeniably beautiful - quiet, surrounded by greenery, and housed in what is presented as a château overlooking a lovely park and an impressive golf course. On paper, it promises charm and elegance. In reality, the experience falls far short of expectations, and one truly wonders how this hotel obtained its star rating.Upon arrival, we were greeted by an empty reception desk and had to wait quite some time before anyone appeared. There seems to be only one lovely lady managing everything on her own. She offered us a genuinely warm welcome and gave excellent dinner recommendations outside the property - especially helpful as the hotel’s only restaurant is open solely for breakfast and lunch, even in the height of summer.Reaching our room required climbing what fell like endless flights of stairs, carrying your own luggage, as there is neither lift nor concierge service. For a property of this standing, this is already surprising. In the afternoon, we decided to relax by the swimming pool. When requesting towels, we were told they had run out as they were being washed. The most astonishing part was the attendant’s response: “we should return to our room and bring our own bath towels to use at the pool, that would solve our problem”. In all our years of travel, we have never encountered such a suggestion. Needless to say, we abandoned the idea of a relaxing poolside afternoon and instead enjoyed the privacy of our terrace before heading out to explore the area.Breakfast the following morning was acceptable - the only dining experience on the property that met basic expectations. Lunch, however, was deeply disappointing: two forgettable Niçoise salads and two sparkling waters at an exorbitant price, accompanied by some of the poorest service we have encountered. The waiters were borderline rude and distinctly unprofessional. In short, come here to play golf and enjoy the surroundings - but stay and dine elsewhere. Manon Ettori Vigna, Service clients/Réception at Hotel Chateau De La Begude, responded to this review Dear Heaven, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are pleased that you enjoyed the setting and charm of our hotel, as well as the recommendations provided by our team.Regarding your comments, we would like to provide some clarification and sincerely apologize for these inconveniences. Our front desk team always accompanies guests to their rooms, which is why they may not always be immediately visible at the reception. This approach ensures a personalized welcome and full assistance. Our hotel is located in a historic building, which adds to its charm. Unfortunately, it is not possible to install an elevator, but our team is always happy to help guests carry their luggage to make access to the rooms as comfortable as possible.During periods of high occupancy, managing towels at the pool can sometimes be challenging. We are actively working on a solution to prevent this and ensure smoother service in the future.Regarding dining, on certain evenings with very low activity, our restaurant may be closed for dinner. We are sorry if this affected your experience. For this year, our restaurant will be open every evening for the rest of the season. Please be assured that our restaurant team has been completely reorganized and our menu entirely revised to ensure a much improved experience. Additionally, the nearby old village of Valbonne offers a wide variety of excellent restaurants. We hope this clarifies some of the points raised and we remain attentive to your feedback to continue improving our services. We would be delighted to welcome you again and provide an even more enjoyable experience.Sincerely,

Restaurant closed to Guests in the Evenings

    rating18 Oct 2025

Restaurant now only serves groups of golfers in the evenings - not guests. We have visited many times over the years and the restaurant used to be a particular attraction as the hotel is a long walk from the nearest town (15-20 minutes in the dark no pavement). Bar staff kindly served us some peanuts and a drink whilst serving golfers. What do they expect guests to do – seriously? Avoid staying in the hotel - unless you bring a picnic for dinner. Manon Ettori Vigna, Service clients/Réception at Hotel Chateau De La Begude, responded to this review Dear Goldendubai, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the friendly service at our bar. However, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced at the restaurant during your stay. On that evening, we were hosting a group of golfers, which temporarily limited our à la carte service for other guests. We completely understand your feelings and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back under better conditions.

    Nice location, but more a B & B than a 4 star hotel

    rating13 Oct 2025

We enjoyed our stay despite a few disappointments, compared to our previous stay here. First the positives: Friendly check inA clean room with a large terrace as requested. Great pool and nice spa.good golf practice facilitiesNow the negatives: 1. Extremely disappointing breakfast, coffee from a push button machine similar to motorway service stations, limited choice - and this for 25 euros p.p.! We cancelled all further beakfasts.2. No restaurant available after 4 p.m. No bar after 8 p.m. and this for the Ryder Cup weekend.3. Limited availability of tee times despite requesting them more than 3 months in advance. I tee time cancelled at short noticeIn short, a hotel not suitable for golfing groups (no bar or lounge after 8 p.m.). I'm not sure how you can justify 4 stars if you can't even eat or drink there in the evenings> Manon Ettori Vigna, Service clients/Réception at Hotel Chateau De La Begude, responded to this review Dear Voorburger, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the friendly check-in, the cleanliness of your room, the terrace, as well as our pool, spa, and golf facilities.Regarding your comments, we completely understand your perspective. During the low season, our restaurant is closed in the evenings, but we do our best to remain open year-round, 7 days a week, to provide maximum comfort for our guests. We also appreciate your feedback on the breakfast and tee-time availability, which helps us continuously improve our services. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for a fully satisfying experience.

    Disappointing

    rating10 Oct 2025

The lack of any services after 8 pm was very disappointing for a hotel. We would never have stayed there if we had known. We were there for 3 nights with absolutely nothing open or to do in the evening. Manon Ettori Vigna, Service clients/Réception at Hotel Chateau De La Begude, responded to this review Dear Adrian,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We completely understand your disappointment regarding the lack of evening services. During the low season, our restaurant closes in the evenings, but we are working to keep it open year-round to better serve our guests. In the meantime, we are happy to highlight that the nearby old village of Valbonne offers many excellent restaurants and charming spots for a pleasant evening out.We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a more complete experience.
