    Best Refuge in the TMB

    rating28 Sept 2024

I did the full TMB earlier this month and this was my favorite refuge. It's nested in a gorgeous valley with incredible views, the cottage itself is the most beautiful, well-cared for establishment I had the fortune to visit along the trek—and competition is fierce in the region. If you arrive on a sunny day, you get to enjoy the terrace overlooking the mountains, but the interior feels just as welcoming and homey. Food was excellent, showers and toilets were in good condition, and they also have a mud room equipped with electric drying boot racks (not all refuges have this) where you get to leave your gear for the night (you're given a box for the few personal items you need to take to your room). Overall they're quite well organized, which contributes to a mess-free stay in what I can only assume is a pretty busy hut during all season. And if you order the takeaway packed lunch for the next day, it comes in a cloth bag with the refuge name you get to keep as a gift!

    great refuge on TMB

    rating08 Sept 2024

I totally appreciate to have a great meal, comfortable bed, and a shower instead of carrying a tent and other backpack essentials. Yes, shower was short in a tiny space but it's in the middle of wilderness, I was simply grateful. It was a smaller refuge with family atmosphere which I really liked.

Not so nice, despite a fantastic location.

    rating26 Jul 2024

Beautiful area, with a very nice looking refuge. It's summer, so after a long hike we sat outside and had a lunch.Despite a beautiful area, and great experiences with our refuges, the lunch was disappointing. The desert is our measuring stick; blueberry cake. Here, it was industrial, sugary and not so nice. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT.

Amazing terrace at the end of a long day

    rating04 Jul 2023

Nice refuge at the end of a long day. The view from the beautiful terrace was outstanding, and made for a lovely first night in good weather. Dinner and breakfast were good and the people running the show were also lovely. The dorms and showers were all a bit small and crowded, but overall our team of six had a good time here. Would recommend.

    Brilliant refuge

    rating12 Sept 2019

We stayed here on the first night of our TMB and it was probably the most charming of all our accommodation. Set in solitude on the side of a valley (with great views), the place is a very quiet and relaxed affair. Nice outside seating area for enjoying an evening beer.We had a bunk in an eight-person (four bunks) room with a sink. I think most rooms were probably 6-8 people which helps limit disturbance (compared to massive dorms). There were a couple of clean toilets and showers (lovely and hot) and we never had to queue. A few charging points around - plenty enough if people share.Three-course evening meal (served at 19:00) was delicious and plentiful: veg soup, cheese and bread; potato gratin & sausage; and apple pie. Breakfast was simple cold stuff (cereal, bread, croissant etc.) but filling and available from 06:30 - perfect for an early start. My coeliac (gluten-free) partner was very well accommodated at all times.Staff were very friendly and helpful.
