  Stay as pleasant as ever: apartment, friendly staff, cleanlinessA downside on the very fluctuating internet connection (several days without being able to connect) and on the parking spaces to redefine (a loss of spaces with the sites of old trees ..) and to rematerialize because each one parks a bit any way and encroaches on several spaces.   Nice well maintained building with very friendly staff. Paid entertainment is offered .The whole is very clean with a small laundry very convenient. The apartments are spacious with a nice park. The plus is the welcome of dogs which is great! A small downside for parking but not crippling.   We were stayed 3 nights. Out first night we discovered we were only given a top sheet for our beds. The mattress protectors were full of hair and dirt. It was 11pm and there is no reception so had a very bad sleep the first night.We were not provided with any cleaning cloths or tea towels but are expected to clean after our stay so not sure how this works. We were given one diswasher tablet but on opening the drawer the previous one was left half dissolved. Crockery and cutlery was packed away dirty.Beds are small and the apartment falls short as far as the basics are not there to make your stay comfortable and clean!

  Peaceful, grand buiding, great location

  To be honest it's perfect for a family ski holiday. Not only do you get to stay in this grand old place for the cost of a caravan in Wales, the lift pass office gives a discount for staying in the Splendid hotel.It's kind of spookily peaceful and the young receptionist has a calmness to match. You can have a walk round the hall at night alone and look at the ornate designs on the walls and look at the pictures of when the place was visited by the upper classes and celebrities.The appartments don't match the splendour of the hotel itself, they are a little bit budgety, but are also adequate, especially for what you pay. Always hot water, tv with all the digi channels, wifi, hob, mini oven and dishwasher, good provisions generally. The only thing that's not great are the beds and the fact that they didn't provide duvets, only blankets.... Sleeping would have been much more comfortable with a duvet. Next time I'll bring my own.The town has the old-fashioned charm and because it's not a well known ski area, is not frequented by many Brits or rowdy holidaymakers from anywhere, which is what you want with young kids. There's plenty there as you'd expect with a town of this size, but it's not too touristy. It's Funny how the people in the shops and take-aways think they can speak English.You have to drive up a mad road with hairpins for about 7 miles to the ski resort, or there's a bus but that would require hauling a lot of ski stuff to the bus stop on foot. It is better for people with their own ski-vehicle.All in all a great holiday and it's actually a very decent ski area with all the magnificence of the Alps, some great long runs, and ones where you can let your kids go up on their own and watch from the cafe below. Hidden gem I'd say.

  healthiest holiday ever

  we stayed in the splendid in october of this year and were really happy with our stay, the apartments are really spacious and great value for the cost, we picked a quiet time of year but this was compensated for by the sheer beauty of the area and the peacefulness of the hotel itself.. the town of allevard is a lovely little town with a few pubs and enough restaurants of a good quality to enhance your holiday, its ideally located for hikes in the mountains and also there are a few lakes and waterways close by to keep you occupied..well worth a stay...
