  Nice but has modem-speed internet

  Calm, quiet, comfortable, good for tourists but not for business because of the slowest internet connection I've experienced in 10 years. Had to set my email prefs to HTML. Even with HTML email I could not send thank you emails with document attachments after my meetings. This is NOT GOOD for business trips. There's no longer anywhere to go to work online in Berlin after business hours. Even St Oberholz turns off their wifi at 8pm.

  Dear Tripadvisor users,I recently stayed at the Novum Gates Berlin hotel with my wife and daughter for a week. Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. We booked a three-bed room, but there was only one chair and one bedside table for the three of us. The third bed was a broken chaise lounge that was not comfortable to sleep on. The rooms were also not very nicely decorated. The television was hanging on the wall, with the power and antenna cables dangling down to the outlet, held together with cable ties.To make matters worse, the housekeeping staff did not always replace all of the towels, leaving us with only two instead of three on two separate days. However, the worst part of our stay was discovering small black bugs on one of the beds on our last day. While we did some research and determined they were not bed bugs, we still felt quite uncomfortable and disturbed by the experience.When we informed the staff at reception about our concerns during check-out, they seemed uninterested and did not apologize for the inconvenience. The lack of communication and coordination between the housekeeping and front desk staff was also apparent, as we were constantly shuffled back and forth between the two.Overall, our experience at Novum Gates Berlin was disappointing, and we would not recommend this hotel to others.

  Great location—close to a main train station. Large room, with adequate amenities and friendly staff. It’s not fancy, but it is clean and centrally located. We had time to do some sightseeing in the morning before we had to check out. They offer a secure luggage storage area if you want more time in the area. Highly recommend.

  The hotel is definitely clean and in a great location, but there were quite a few issues to be aware of.First off, the shower is absolutely horrendous. I had a small room with just a small shower, but it was near unusable. The shower stall is tint, with shower curtains that either cling to your entire body during your shower, due to the shower being so small, or you flood the entire bathroom when pushing the curtains outside of the shower tray to avoid it suffocating you.The shower head is installed in a way that it cannot be angled downwards, instead it points straight out, you either spray the wall directly, or the shower curtain. But to use the shower, you have to hold the shower head in your hand to actually catch any of the water. Which takes about two minutes to run warm as well.I also requested my coffee sachets be refilled twice, but they never were. They only provided two sachets for a 4 night stay in a double room! I didn't have the breakfast as it was quite expensive and I figured I'd be better off having breakfast elsewhere. Staff were okay, not super friendly but not unfriendly either. For some reason the housekeeping staff kept leaving all the lights on in the room all day, when I had turned them all off before leaving. What a waste of energy!The bed was comfortable, though there was a light switch for a reading light installed inside the headboard, exactly at head height. The light turned on several times at night as apparently my pillow pushed against it. Very weird place for a light switch. The room was a bit stuffy as well. The window does open, but it opened to the inner courtyard that often has groups of people sitting and loudly chatting, despite the signs asking for quiet time between 10pm and 7am.Not the worst place I've stayed at, but I wouldn't visit this hotel again. I'm so glad to be home now and able to have a proper shower!   Great walkability to City West

  Loved the short ways around the Kudamm and Zoo area. We stayed for two weeks and asked for a quiet room away from the street. Room 125 was part of a package deal with Expedia. The room was functional, a bit on the smaller side for two people but relatively quiet most of the time. Loved the view outside the window. Trees in front of the window and in the morning we would hear bird song. The mattress was very comfortable, which was a big plus for a longer stay like ours. A few things we didn't like: The room curtains had gross spots right next to the night stand and didn't close properly anymore, because the left and right ends were pulled out of the curtain rail. The bathroom was okay. The grout in the shower had black mold spots all over. The shower curtain was a bit flimsy and lots of water was going beyond the shower tub on the bathroom floor all the time. The room service was good. We tipped in advance but the money never left the spot while we were there. One thing I thought was odd was that the complementary instant coffee was only available on the first night. It wasn't refilled. No fridge in the room, but a water cooker is available. There are vending machines in the reception area, that charged very high prices for bottled water and coffee etc. We switched occasionally to the supermarket supplies. All in all I would recommend the hotel for longer stays because of the close proximity to restaurants and theaters, but next time I would rather get a bigger room.
