    Good for university visitors

    Friendly staff and nice location. Close to the University of Bremen. Good for university visitors. But not a walking distance to the city center. Have good meeting and small conference rooms. Coffee breaks (snacks) are interesting for foreigners and taste is good.

    They charged us 7 euros a bottle for 0.75 liters of water. Most expensive water I have had in my life. Food was mediocre at best - water was fine but not made of gold.     Two out of three — not bad!

    Having stayed at Hotel Universum before, we again booked a busines plus room with air conditioning. We had chosen the Universum for the easy access by car and the excellent nearby tramway to the city centre of Bremen. This time we also preferred Universum for its apparently very strict Covid-19 measures.First impressions were excellent. Greeted by a friendly and very precise women at the reception and by a nice comfortable, very clean room. Next two days we also enjoyed a very good and fresh breakfast with lots of choices and very attentive staff (tall man and young woman), making sure that everything was kept shipshape. A model of efficiency and quality.Alas, the third and final day meant new staff at breakfast, with a much more leisurely approach. Didn’t made sure that enough clean plates were available, didn’t fill up the scrambled eggs container, and the delicious bacon had completely disappeared, dirty plates were left at our table. Antithesis to the previous experience. And it continued, when checking out the man at the reception was wearing the required mask, but only over the mouth, thus defeating the whole purpose. Made him aware that he had to cover the nose.Well, we hope that Hotel Universum in the future will want to keep up the standard set by staff the first two days.

    Terrible customer service!

    We had a reservation for the weekend of the 16th to 18th October. Bremen was declared "Risikogebiet" on the 15th of October and we immediately called the hotel to change our reservation to spring 2021. Due to my job, I cannot enter a "Risikogebiet" or I face quarantine + sanctions, so I explained my situation and was told there was nothing they could do about it. My only option was to cancel my reservation having to pay 90% of the total price. I do understand that there is a cancellations policy of 24 hours and calling 22 hours prior to arrival is past that deadline, however, during this uncertain times, I believe they should be a little bit more flexible and reasonable with reservations and to allow changes.We would have stayed next year and we would have spent more money on the restaurant/hotel, however, after this experience, I am not going to make another reservation and I will tell friends and relatives not to book there.     One of my favourite Cities and one of my favourite hotels.The hotel is managed wonderfully and expertly its guests treated individually. Clean and tidy always ready rooms immaculate and fresh.Food is very good and sets an excellent standard for hotel restaurants.
