Location

The brand new hotel is located a few blocks from the River Elbe, in the very heart of the beautiful city of Dresden. Guests are just minutes away from numerous attractions, such as the renowned and recently renovated Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), Semperoper (Semper Opera House), and Zwinger (Dungeon). This wonderful Old Market Square neighbourhood is filled with boutiques, bars and restaurants, and is well served by public transportation. The main train station is just ten minutes away by foot.

Facility

The hotel has a lift and features 240 rooms. English- and German-speaking staff at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. Services such as a cloakroom, a baggage storage service and a safe ensure a comfortable stay. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel offers various facilities for guests with disabilities. There are also a number of shops that make for great strolling and browsing.     Check in to this hotel was brisk and efficient, and we were given access to our room before the usual check-in time. Even better was check out, including holding our bags for an hour, at the hands of a particularly helpful young man.I consider the hotel has two shortcomings which would discourage me from returning.The first concerns doors. The bathroom has a glass door, with the result that if your companion gets up to use the facilities in the middle of the night, the light spills into the room and wakes you up. The frosting is strong, but not enough to conceal all hint of what someone is up to in there.That's a daft design, but at least there's a door. The wardrobe doesn't have any. As a result, the main view from your bed is of your own clothes. Who wants to come on a trip to see that?The second shortcoming is that the dining room is undersized for breakfast. Tables are close together, even though some spill out into the corridor area. The buffet area is uncomfortably congested. Even if these two shortcomings are of no concern to you, I am still mystified by the warm reviews this hotel has attracted here. It seems to me competent, middle of the road, unremarkable. Though this was my first visit to Dresden, I would be surprised if there are no better pickings among the many hotels nearby.

    NH Dresden Altmarkt is a great hotel. We truly enjoyed our 5-day stay there. The room was so spacious. The wall facing Altmarkt was one big window, which allowed us to watch the buzzing crowd below and the beautiful skyline.All the sights are within walking distance. It is a great idea that you can have your room cleaned only every other day and get a bar voucher for the days without cleaning.
