    BEWARE...TOURIST TAX!!

    rating30 Oct 2025

Checked into the hotel quickly when we arrived. However, on arrival was told we would have to pay €105 due to tourist tax and being a 5* hotel. TUI, claim they told us but it was in small print......however we did receive a free upgrade to a room with a pool.5* hotel, questionable. Not sure if that was due to Platanias closing down for the season or if it's just how the hotel runs. (Food excellent 1st and 2nd night) however, got worse and worse as the week went on (closer to closing the hotel). Drinks (cocktails) VERY good and plentiful. The menu is vast, and available on every table at the pool bar. One downside, if you are AI, you cannot drink at the bar inside which i find ridiculous. I dont particularly like sitting outside in a hoodie, when there is a perfectly good bar inside (for paying guests). Housekeeping......well, i walked into the room twice, and looked like my other half had made the bed, not the housekeeping team. I complained at reception about this. 5* hotel and the bed and bathroom looks scruffy. Not acceptable. The receptionist at the time, couldn't care less. Infact i had to bother him whilst he he was scrolling the internet on his phone. Most of the staff (by pool bar) were fabulous. Restaurant staff, hit and miss. Had to be told numerous times to clear our table and reset at breakfast. Would i stay here again. No. Its not 5* and if we were allocated our original room type after paying an additonal €105 , i would not have been happy.Btw, bus links to Chania great, right outside hotel and less than €4 each way. Σοφία Καπάκη, Innkeeper at Porto Platanias Beach Resort and Spa, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to read that you enjoyed our cocktails, food, and most of our staff. However, we would like to clarify that as also confirmed by TUI, the overnight stay tax is a governmental tax of €15 per room per night for all 5-star hotels in Greece. This is not a hotel charge but a regulation applied to all hotels worldwide, and is always clearly stated in the booking terms and conditions. As for your comment regarding the All-Inclusive program, please note that, as in most of the All-Inclusive resorts worldwide, not all bars and outlets are included. We understand this may have been disappointing, though it is clearly stated in both hotel and tour operator descriptions. We are sorry that your experience did not fully meet your expectations, although your review also mentions several positive aspects of your stay. We will still share your comments with the relevant departments to ensure continued improvement. We wish you all the best. Kind regards,IroPorto Platanias Hotels & Resorts Team

All In One! Absolutely Brilliant 🤩

    rating15 Oct 2025

Porto Platanias has got to be the best hotel I’ve personally been in.The staff are super super respectful and helpful from handling luggage to booking activities from the reception. Not only that but they are also really friendly and is always nice to talk to the staff as well.Amenities and services wise: They have it all on their MASSIVE estate. They have many pools, a super nice restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinners. They have a few bars and the drinks are really well done too. Reception, well that is astounding as it looks just brilliant and the staff there have been soo helpful to us. They even have a mini market shop in the middle of it all making it super convenient to get snacks and drinks for hotel rooms. As for the hotel rooms/apartments they are brilliant as well! They are well stocked with mini kitchenettes in such a way that they aren’t at all in the way or invasive. The bathrooms are immaculate and every day a team of cleaners come through and clean the rooms which is awesome 🙌 It’s not the hotel type that I’m personally used to as there was little to no self catering other than getting snacks from the shop to choosing food for dinner and breakfast as it was very pick and mix-like. The food was brill as well. There very many positives about the hotel but the only drawbacks are the quality of the food does change a little bit. One night it was absolutely perfect two nights in a row but then they can become cold or undercooked to a degree. That’s fine tho as they are catering for a large amount of people so it is difficult but was still good.Parking is a little bit of a funny situation tho as it could be a little more accessible due to the tight corners getting into the parking lot and the barrier did stop lowering as well at one point. Other than that it has been a brilliant experience that I highly recommend!Thank you for a brilliant week :)

Don’t waste your money on this junk

    rating13 Oct 2025

Room was worst I’ve ever experienced. It was located in the ground floor and the ”balcony” was in a corridor, so there was cigarette smoke, but no view or any privacy. Bathroom’s door could not be closed, which they didn’t repair properly, so it kept always open. Also the humidity in the room was very high and the room had a musty smell. The staff was rude and not helpful.at all. You pay taxes for 5 stars, but this Hotel deserves rather 2 or max 3 stars.

    Lovely location. Disappointing hidden costs

    rating09 Oct 2025

The location is fab. Easy taxi ride to explore Chania. Lots to explore locally on foot in the evening. The beach at sunset and the views from the restaurant are spectacular. All inclusive drinks and food good, although little vegetation choice. The room we stayed in was clean other than hand prints on the internal glass which were not of our making and remained all week. The biggest problems we encountered, which really spoilt things for us were: the lack of availability of sunbeds unless you get up and reserve at silly-o-clock. There is space on the loungers on the beach, but they want you to pay for these even as an all inclusive guest. The drinks at the beach bar aren’t included in the all inclusive either. So you have to pay to go on the beach loungers and pay for drinks or walk back to the pool bar. We thought from the advert when we booked with Tui that the slides (“waterpark”) at the sister hotel were included. They wanted 15 Euros per person to use them. This is a lot for water slides. It just made us feel like we didn’t get what we expected when we booked / paid for.
