Simple, clean accommodation in an ideal location.

    rating06 Sept 2025

Before arriving at the Alkioni Hotel we had read the reviews and requested an upper room, as these appeared to have better reviews and views. However, upon arrival we were informed that only ground floor rooms were available and we were allocated room 3. Looking into other rooms it appeared that furnishings differed, and our’s seemed to have an Art Nouveau style. Quite a simply furnished room with plenty of stage space, nice refrigerator, kettle, air conditioning (€50 per week) and a safe. However, the safe was small and light and was not secured to the wall, so any thief could just pick it up and carry away so we didn’t use. Also, the bottom fell out of one of the drawers but was easily fixed with a bit of brute force! No shower curtain in the bathroom so take a shammy leather with you to mop up the floor around the central drain point. The pool and pool bar were good, with plenty of sun beds, umbrellas and tables, although surprised to find that most of the pool was 3 metres deep, with only a small section considered shallow.Breakfast was fine, with a choice of fried eggs, bacon, fresh tomatoes, ham, cheese, bread or toast, preserves, cereals, tea, coffee and juices. We didn’t experience any queues at breakfast time, with the only delay waiting for the toast to brown! The cleaning staff were fantastic, tidying the rooms up every day except Sunday, where they would only empty the bins.Bar prices were good and there was a good choice of lunchtime meals.Yes, there were some negative points - like the cracked glass partitions between the apartments and grass growing through the paving slabs, but on the whole it was a good experience. We were surprised to find that many people return every year, with some getting the same room, so obviously room preference given to returning guests. In brief, simple, clean accommodation in an ideal location (short walk to the sea) and with all balconies facing South, towards the sea.

“Lovely hotel for a relaxing break

    rating20 Aug 2025

We booked a last-minute mother and daughter trip and had a lovely stay. The hotel is simple but very clean, with a big pool and plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, so there was never a problem finding a spot. Breakfast was buffet-style with a good choice, and air conditioning is available if you want it (€50 for the week). The owners and staff were really friendly and helpful.Katelios isn’t a party resort, so if you’re looking for lively nightlife this isn’t the place. But if you want a relaxing break it’s ideal. There are lots of tavernas along the beachfront (about a 5–10 minute walk), plus a few bars, gift shops and supermarkets. For more choice, Skala is just a short taxi ride away (around €18, which the hotel can arrange). We did a full-day island excursion which was brilliant and great value. There are also plenty of other trips and boat tours if you fancy exploring.Overall, if you’re after a chilled holiday on a beautiful Greek island, I’d definitely recommend this hotel and resort.

    Excellent value, clean and comfortable

    rating07 Aug 2025

We have just spent our second night here and consider this hotel to be absolutely fine and excellent value. The pool is large and lovely with enough sunbeds for everyone, the beds are very comfortable and the a/c works well. The breakfast yesterday was good, fresh melon, yoghurt, bread , jam, honey, cheese , ham, fresh tomatoes and eggs and bacon for those who want this. Very good coffee. The rooms are very clean and the shower is good. Loved watching the dragonflies dancing over the pool, no insect bother. Five minutes walk to the beach, ignore the negative reviews, the hotel is not fancy but who really needs more than the above?

    DISAPPOINTING!! DISGUSTING!! AVOID!!!!!

Disappointing Stay at the Alkioni Hotel – A Let-Down in Beautiful KefaloniaWe were so looking forward to our holiday in the stunning country of Kefalonia, but unfortunately, our experience at the Alkioni Hotel completely soured our stay.First Impressions – Cold and UnwelcomingAfter a late-night arrival, we were met with a rushed and unfriendly reception. There was no warm welcome, just an immediate demand for €70 – which included a fee for the air conditioning remote control and the government tax. We were given our room key and told our room number with no assistance offered for luggage or directions. After a long journey, this was not the greeting we expected or deserved.Room Conditions – Dated, Dirty and UncomfortableThe room itself was a huge disappointment. Small, outdated and poorly designed, with cupboards mounted too high to be useful and limited usable storage. The beds were two creaky singles pushed together, far from comfortable, and far from what was promised. There was nowhere proper to store clothes – we ended up laying them over two old chairs at the foot of the bed.The bathroom resembled a wet room, which quickly turned into a soaked mess after even one shower. There were no hooks or rails to dry or hang towels, and the ceiling was infested with bugs and flies, which emerged at night and bit us relentlessly. We woke up covered in bites every single morning. The room also had jumping fleas on the furniture and walls, and the shower drain was clogged with old hair, causing constant backups.Housekeeping – Minimal and InadequateShockingly, the cleaner was the same person who served breakfast, which perhaps explains why basic cleaning was neglected. In our 10-day stay, the floors and bathroom were never cleaned properly. Sheets were only changed every four days, and the bins were left overflowing for up to two days at a time. The bed was simply made up with the same dirty sheets on most days. This level of cleanliness is completely unacceptable.Breakfast – Repetitive and UnappetizingBreakfast was another low point. The same uninspiring meal every single day: a cold fried egg, one slice of toast, a slice of cheese, a tomato, and a piece of fatty bacon. You had to ask the cleaner for your breakfast, which was then handed to you on a tray. Coffee and orange juice were served by another staff member who, like the rest of the team, never smiled or engaged positively. The overall atmosphere was miserable and unwelcoming.Facilities – Neglected and UnsafeThe pool area was dirty, filled with leaves, floating grease, and overgrown grass. There were no signs for pool depth or operating hours, and the pavement stones around the pool were cracked, with weeds and ants everywhere. To make matters worse, broken panes of glass on every balcony posed a serious safety hazard.Overall Verdict – Not as Advertised, and Definitely Not RecommendedThis hotel is not at all as advertised and appears to be suffering from complete neglect. The staff were consistently unfriendly, the facilities poorly maintained, and the cleanliness unacceptable. The owner clearly does not take pride in the property, and unfortunately, that shows in every aspect of the guest experience. We’ve stayed in many places, and this has to be the worst by far. Kefalonia is an incredible destination, and it’s a shame this hotel put such a damper on our trip. We will not be returning to the Alkioni Hotel and strongly advise others to avoid it.
