  Excellent location on the beach front. It is a lovely family run hotel with character. We stayed in a sea view room and it was lovely and spacious with a great view. The staff are so friendly and will always willingly to talk and happy to help

  Really Disappointing

  We were fully aware that this hotel has a two star rating so didn't have particularly high expectations but it was a real let down for us. What was meant to be a bath/shower room was just a wet room and a poorly draining one at that. The main drain is right in front of the loo so unless youre very thorough drying the floor after every shower youre guaranteed to get wet feet every time you visit the loo day or night. The towels were never changed and on the penultimate day the hand towels were removed and not replaced. We also had the same floor towel for the whole week which was a bit unpleasant with the almost constantly wet floor. The loo lid wouldn't stay up on its own, you had to hold it up or have it leaning against your back.The daily housekeeping service consisted of emptying the bathroom bin and pulling the sheet back over the bed. The mugs and glasses on the 'hospitality tray' didnt look very clean when we used them on our first morning, turns out they dont get washed as part of the housekeeping service which made me wonder if they're ever properly washed, all we could do was rinse them in the bathroom basin if we needed them. The spec says there's coffee making facilities and a kettle but the coffee making facilities is the kettle!We were also left with no choice but to purchase the air con due to the maid opening the blinds and curtains in our room on the first full day so that by the time we went up later it was like an oven in there. I've never been anywhere where the maids haven't pulled the blinds across to keep the heat out of the accommodation so it seems interesting that this happened here where air con is an additional charge and cash only. We were charged for the full week despite having it from the second night. Interestingly, after we paid for air con the blinds/curtains were always left closed by the maid.Breakfast seemed an awkward affair and a very limited choice too with boiled eggs, baked beans and chipolata style sausages being the choice on one day, with some rather tired looking melon alongside. You can make toast, there are pots of butter and jam without lids so you have to beware of wasps and flies. Some staff were friendly and welcoming, particularly the evening staff, but others left us feeling that we and other guests were something of an inconvenience at best. We witnessed more than one hostile exchange between staff and guests.Our balcony was just big enough for two to squeeze on to. The towel rail was unusable due to not having anywhere to move the little table out of the way and the rail was covered in bird poo anyway.This hotel seems to rely on all the little extra charges for things, so didnt feel value for money at all. Two sun loungers and a parasol is ten euro a day, but some are damaged and not particularly clean. The beach is lovely but very small and gets busy. We spoke to some people who had returned here after ten years and they said nothing has been changed/updated since their original visit. This is a great place for lunch or an evening meal as the view is wonderful and the food is good aside from breakfast, but not for accommodation.

  Hotel excellently located to the town, bars, restaurants and of course the beach, but very dated needs a lot of modernisation. Also you should be able to have the option of booking bed only as breakfast is at best average, I ate breakfast elsewhere everyday Cleaners are in everyday but towels don't get changed very often etc Would I stay again mmmm possibly as room was clean and staff friendly and maybe it was the time of year we were there I don't know but it was Like an old people.home we are 56 and we must of brought the average age right down lol also a bit steep to have to pay €10 per day for AC and you have to pay cash !!!But all in all I only use my hotel to sleep in and get changed 😄

  Great location but shabby

  We have been to Alykes many times over the years but this was our first time at the Astoria. The positives: the staff at this family run hotel are friendly and helpful, the location is very good and beakfast was good, we enjoyed the pancakes with fresh fruit, Greek yogurt with honey and there was always either scrambled, boiled or poached eggs. There was lots of variety but not for those thay want a full English.The bad points: the hotel is very shabby and really needs a complete refurbishment. We were in room 203 and the bathroom was very cramped and falling apart. The beds were very uncomfortable and were as hard as iron. I have osteoarthritis and the hard bed made my symptoms worse. We won't return to this hotel but we will be back to Alykes as we can't keep away.

  Worst hotel I have ever stayed in

  Quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in the hotel is filthy and in a poor state of repair the toilet leaked for first 3 days of out of base, spewing waste water and sewage out environment health and serious health and safety issues if we had slipped the doors were hanging off and we couldn’t open windows the breakfast comprised of spam brown scrambled eggs melon that had dried out and slimy if you like cuecumber and tomatoes you will be ok The stroppy waitress thought she could shout at my son for moving a parasol The cleaners are friendly felt sorry for them they are facing a uphill battle to keep it clean There are more mossies here then happy tourists good luck I don’t know how jet 2 have the audacity to send people here do not book
