  Our stay itself was not bad. We had two units. One was a little musty upon arrival. The issue came when reconciling my credit card at the end of the month. Our $250 security deposit was not returned. Finally after MANY attempts of contacting the property, they showed a picture of a hole in a wall-supposedly in our unit. I was adamant with the GMs that there was no hole in the wall upon our check out (possible water damage or housekeeping??). I requested the GM to personally check the unit and prove there was a patch job done in that unit. It has been a month with no response following a promise to check. We are frequent visitors of both Hilton and Hilton Vacation Club properties. We even sat through two time share presentations and considered purchasing at Powhatan (closest HVC property to our home). Wow-I am glad we didn;t. THis is the worst HVC customer service I have experienced. I do not recommend even an over night stay at this property. Hope they are happy with my $250 and I hope you read my review and decide to stay somewhere else.

  Enjoyed Our Stay

  I was initially hesitant about choosing this resort due to some of the reviews and photos I had seen. However, our experience turned out to be wonderful from the very first night. Our initial unit was slightly dated, but it was very clean and perfectly suited to its peaceful location backing up to the woods.On the second night, we ran into an issue with the toilets not flushing at around 1am and a great deal of noise from the neighbors in the upstairs unit. I called the front desk because I was concerned for my mom, who is in her 80s. Although I was initially told maintenance wouldn’t be available until the morning, the staff responded quickly by sending security and then immediately relocating us to another unit. While the sudden need to repack was a bit overwhelming—especially for my mom—we were pleasantly surprised to find that the new unit had been fully renovated. The upgrade made a huge difference, and we both felt so much more comfortable afterward.The bar and grill offered delicious food and drinks, with quick and friendly service. Although the outdoor pool was closed for the season, we really enjoyed spending time in the indoor hot tub. We also joined a ghost tour of the Manor House with David and Geri, which was another highlight of our stay—they were fantastic guides.Overall, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for. I truly appreciate everyone’s efforts. Please forgive me if I misspell some names. Flo, Amanda, Teanna, Yolanda, Val, Brock, Ari, Nicko, all of the staff at the concierges desk and everyone who does an amazing job at The Historic Powhatan to keep the grounds beautiful and clean and feel welcoming. Thank you all again for making our stay a relaxing and memorable one.

  Nice place but thin ceiling, could hear footsteps

  While it was a pleasant and clean apartment with two sitting areas, kitchen, dining table, bedroom and bathroom, we could hear every step of the guests in the apartment above us. There is an entrance gate however our uber driver easily got through.

  Definitely above average experience. From the 24 hour gate keeper to check in and a literal team of concierges providing local info & brochures to the breathtaking grounds, we 100% enjoyed our time here! Plus, the focal point of the property is the original brick mansion dating back to 1735 which is left open daily for self guided tours is very special. As far as the unit itself, it was great having an actual condo/apartment with spacious rooms, a full kitchen, televisions in every room, a great balcony with spacious views beautiful trees, grounds, birds, and squirrels complete with a nice table and chairs - perfect for morning coffee or a full meal; and even an electric fireplace. We would not hesitate to stay here again! One note regarding the washer and dryer - it is small, so don't plan on doing the same quantity of laundry in one load that you probably normally do. Finally, the kitchen is well equipt with basics for cooking & simple baking; plus toaster, coffee maker, and full size fridge, oven, & dishwasher. However be advised that no cooking basics such as oil, salt and pepper were provided, which is fine; but just be aware you need to bring your own in case you do want to actually cook. We loved our time here. Thank you for providing an exceptional value for the money spent!

  Nice location if visiting the local attractions!

  Nice location and distance to the local attractions. We stayed as 6 in a 2 bedroom suite. We had a bump out with a sofa bed that needed to be used, but unfortunately, it was like sleeping outside. The porch area had no heat at all pumping in and was freezing. It made for an uncomfortable trip as we were one bed short due to the cold. The unit was otherwise ok, had enough supplies for our 3 night stay. We did like being on the first level, however, it was very noisy as the people above us seemed to arrive at 2am and spent 1.5 hours unpacking. We share a main exit door that was slamming non stop. In all, 3 out of 5 stars. We stayed here for the location (pro) and the space (con, due to one bed not being useful unless you wanted to literally freeze). I’d try a different hotel if we visit the area again. Staff was great! Positive interaction at the gatehouse each time and they were quick to drop off requests. We did state there would be 6 guests but we still needed to ask for extra towels and the bedding for the sofa beds. We also needed maintenance at one point, and someone arrived quickly. The Historic Powhatan does offer a 3-bedroom suite which you may find more accommodating for a party of your size should you reconsider to stay with us again in the future. Another benefit of the 3-bedroom unit is that while you will have a neighbor to at least one side of your unit, there would be no occupants above your unit and there are no shared foyers so there would not be the issue of noise like you experienced on this stay. Regardless, we did not meet your expectations this time around so I do sincerely apologize and hope you consider staying with us again in the future.
