  As so often we booked again this hotel in Lyon and even arrived very late at 01.00 in the morning, we were still warmly welcomed and our room was directly ready! The well known mama ambience was enjoyable in our room and all was great. In the morning we could enjoy the excellent mama breakfast buffet and the service team took lovely care of us….   First time staying at a Mama Shelter property, and really enjoyed the experience. A warm and personal welcome from the reception team, forthcoming with recommendations for local places to eat, and remarkably remembered us all by first name when passing reception later that evening. The rooms are fairly basic, but perfectly fine and comfortable. The bar/restaurant/terrace area was the main attraction, a generous space which seemed to draw in plenty of locals as a well as hotel guests. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty too. Location more in the suburbs - great for a selection of nearby restaurants filled with locals rather than visitors. Found the area really friendly. Around a 30-40 min wander to the old town, but plenty to see in between.I'd best describe it as an elevated hostel experience, ideal for young professionals & travellers wanting extra comforts, yet a social and relaxed setting.   I stayed at Mama Shelter Lyon recently and it definitely stood out from the usual hotel experience—in a good way.The hotel is conveniently located near the Jean Macé metro station, giving easy access to the rest of the city. It’s tucked into a quiet residential neighbourhood, which I actually appreciated after busy days out exploring Lyon. From the outside, it could be any regular apartment building, but step inside and you’re met with something totally different.The lobby sets the tone immediately: eclectic, youthful, and playful. There were inflatable pool toys used as décor and a giant table football setup that seats about ten people. It’s definitely got a fun, offbeat vibe. The reception area is small and not really meant for lounging, but it flows into a stylish bar and restaurant area that’s got a cool, industrial-meets-modern aesthetic. Relaxed and lively without feeling forced.The welcome at reception was warm and friendly. My room wasn’t ready when I arrived, but they happily stored my luggage. I was staying in a suite on the top floor, and it was great. Spacious, with a separate seating area, open-plan wardrobe, and a large vanity space that acted as a divider between the bed and the lounge. There were two big TVs, one facing the couch and one facing the bed and a fun, personal welcome message painted on the mirror. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom, with its walk-in shower, felt clean and modern.There’s definitely a playful, cheeky edge to the hotel’s branding. From the bedside light masks to the free adult films on the TV and the “love toys” package available when booking, Mama Shelter leans into its quirky identity. It won’t be for everyone, but it’s done with a sense of humour and doesn’t feel over the top.The terrace was a nice extra, though it faced neighbouring buildings and wasn’t somewhere I felt compelled to spend much time. There was good WiFi stable with a speed of 103mbpsAll in all, Mama Shelter Lyon was a fun and comfortable base for my stay. It’s not traditional luxury, but it doesn’t try to be. It’s creative, well-designed, and great for travellers looking for something a bit more relaxed and characterful.   Good location. No obvious signage outside- you might walk right past the front door without realizing it. Inside- Very comfortable beds and nice bedding. Clean room. Shower was very strong. Food is okay (the burger is great). Nice staff and the hotel is very dog friendly.   Service good and rooms clean and quirky. Doubled bedded room layout a bit odd - would have preferred bedstead against back wall rather than in the middle of the room! Maneuvering around the room difficult due to position of the bed. Glad to say even though hotel was full we were not disturbed by any noise. We ate one evening in the restaurant and the food was edible and the service very attentive and pleasant. Staff in general were young, very helpful and efficient. Well done to them.
