Lovely little place. Nice and clean and quiet. Short bus ride into old town. 2 minute walk to beach. Will stay again.

    Cozy stay in nice area

We enjoyed our stay here and had a fantastic couple of nights. The location is excellent, being very close to the beach, and the rooms are beautifully decorated. The only thing I would suggest for improvement is getting rid of the smell in the bathroom. hostal elnogal, Dueño at El Nogal Home, responded to this review Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay and appreciated our location and room decor. Your feedback is important to us, and we’ll definitely look into the issue with the bathroom smell to ensure it’s addressed. We’d love to welcome you back for another fantastic stay in the future!

I arrived here at 18.00 on the day of my booking, to find a notice saying that you cannot check in after 16.00. 16.00????? What’s going on? Is that a joke? It turned out not.One of the residents told me that they would not be back until the next day. And that normally, they would contact you on the day, and if you can’t make the 16.00 deadline, they would leave a key in a key box next to the front door. So my question is…why did they not leave the key in the key box and send me the code. I actually sent a message the day before, to confirm I was coming, so it wasn’t like I might not turn up.So, from their info, you can only check in between 14.00 and 16.00. How can they run a hotel/hostel on that basis. They are clearly running it for their own benefit solely, and not for the benefit of the paying guests. They should be there when we need them to be there. It was fortunate that someone let me in, as my phone was about to die. And I managed to plug it in, inside the property. I called their number many times, texted, and emailed. They don’t answer or respond. What if there is an emergency, or a guest goes out without their key. What are they meant to do? There has to be an emergency number. So your flight is delayed, and you arrive after 16.00. Sorry, you can’t check in. Sleep in a bush or pay for somewhere else.I ended up on the phone to Expedia/Hotels, for nearly 2 hours. Even they could not contact the owners. And my call was to Arizona with them, so I dread to think what my phone bill will be. It might have been cheaper to rent a helicopter to pick me up and drop me at the most exclusive hotel in Malaga. We will see. BUT, they got me an alternative, the lovely Molina Lario, in the centre of town, which I would recommend highly. It was a nice respite from a horrific and stressful experience. There was also a girl there at the same time, who I suspect could not speak English or Spanish, in the same situation. After a girl told her the owner would not be there again until the next day (I think she could only speak French), she had to leave. Where was she going to go, if she couldn't afford to stay anywhere else? Finally, and this was the final insult, after Hotels had sorted me with an alternative, some people, who I took to be the owners, arrived and went into the reception. I introduced myself, and they completely ignored me, like I was a ghost. How ignorant. I think they are in the wrong business, and do not deserve our custom. If you want to be treated like dirt and ignored, this is the place for you.

    Charming little hostel

    rating03 Jul 2019

I was slightly worried when my boyfriend said he had booked us a hostel as I'd had a miserable experience before in Amsterdam with pests. However, Hostel el Nogal was nothing of the sort and I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing beach getaway. On arrival we got checked in, greeted with a smile and a freshly cleaned room. We chose the ensuite which was stocked up with packets of shampoo, conditioner and soap which was really welcomed after a painful flight through the night. We didn't realise there was airconditioning straight away so after a few nights of being without it finding it was like discovering the holy grail. The facilities although basic were well thought out. A couple of vending machines with a selection with either cold or hot drinks. A communal fridge and an indoor set of tables away from the sorching sun. There was also a selection of discounted brochures with places to visit too.We chose to sit outside in the charming courtyard on occasion which was decorated with palm plants and pretty tiles. It was really pleasant to have a read in away from the hustle and bustle of the beachfront. Both the staff and the other lodgers were friendly and attentive as they greeted us in the hostel. There were no noisy guests...It was all very peaceful. More peaceful than I think you would have found in a hotel come to think of it. So I hate to admit it but my boyfriend did a really good job in finding us this rather quaint lodging close to the beach! It became apparent fairly quickly that a basic understanding of English was spoken but this did not become an issue as rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels were changed frequently. Thankfully, we were not interrupted by room service once as they always cleaned when we left to grab lunch, which I felt was super courteous as we were late risers often sleeping in until noon!Perfectly located was a absolutely great coffee shop next door! Without fail we were there each day for multiple flat whites, sparking water and a selection of light bites. The taste and presentation of coffee and food there were absolutely exceptional. So be sure to give it a try especially if you like great coffee. In terms of transport links, the hostel had a perfect location. Only a 5 minute walk to the beach and all the restaurants. Options to use electric scooters or rent a bicycle near by. The transport links to the centre of Malaga were on the same road 2 minutes away and were very frequent. It was all very easy to navigate and saved us a fortune in taxi fares. On our last day we were given time to check out and even through we were late in waking up (surprise surprise) the receptionist assisted in booking a taxi to get us safely to the airport later in the day. No frowns or surprise charges, just a great customer experience from beginning to end. Well done Hostel el Nogal!
