    Wonderful Ubud, no more!

    rating10 Dec 2024

The Samara is definitely a little gem for people looking to have a quiet and tranquil stay. It's very small resort with a few villas. The best two are the ones right in the front of the somewhat small but adequate pool overlooking lush rice fields. The sound of quacking ducks having a swim and feed in the little creek nearby early in the morning was just divine. We stayed in the smaller villa which was good but would have preferred the villa in front of the pool if we had known about them when booking our stay. The staff were lovely and always ready to assist. The resort and rooms are clean and the outdoor shower was an interesting experience for us. Overall it's a lovely little place tucked away amongst rice fields but it's downfall is that it isn't accessible by car at all. The resort offers the scooter ride to the near shops or pickups if required. The problem could be if it rains as riding on the back of a scooter wouldn't be fun. The markets and shops are about 10 minutes away on foot if you are reasonably young and fit which we aren't . The walk down the steep hill is ok but coming back in the heat could be a challenge for an elderly person. The food is good and affordable but for short stays. The menu never changed during our 10 day stay. So the conclusion is if you are young and scooter friendly this could be the place for you. We certainly wouldn't stay there again unless the proper road was build so that the cars could reach this lovely position. I say this for one reason only. My husband fell of the scooter and got badly injured. Nevertheless he has recovered from his ordeal and put this incident behind him. This was our second visit to Ubud (the first one was decades ago). What a big disappointment this was. The Ubud charm was gone. Period! There are far too many tourists there. You want get anywhere fast, on foot or by car. The traffic is virtually on the stand still most of the times. Not to mention how expensive everything is for tourists. The sad fact is that not many restaurants cater traditional Indonesian food, food that we love. What a pity! I guess some people won't like or agree with what I've written but I've have stated the facts and what we've seen and experienced ourselves. I have given five stars to The Samara even though our overall time in Ubud wasn't that great. Ubud we visited decades ago was gone for ever...and that was a huge shock for us.

A Gem Amongst the Rice Paddies

    rating01 Dec 2023

What a fabulous stay. Our room was amazing with the pool right out the front of it. Felt like our own private pool. Very comfy bed and the bathroom etc was neat and tidy. All staff were so friendly and keen to offer help with anything. Free afternoon tea was a bonus. Brekky was delicious. Location amazing. Only a 10 minute walk into town or complimentary bike ride in. Also a good amount of great Warungs in the area.Would definitely recommend

The Best Boutique Accommodation in Ubud

    rating02 Mar 2023

Excellent place to stay in a beautiful location amongst the rice paddies outside of Ubud. Staff are really friendly and helpful and the accommodation were comfortable and clean. Couldn’t have asked for anything better! They even drive us down to the main part of town on the back of their motorcycle whenever we needed to go.

    Hidden Gem!!

    rating20 Oct 2022

We stayed here for 3 nights in October. WOW, what an amazing little find. Set amongst the rice fields. Surrounded by fields and a short walk down the hill if you choose to. The hotel provide scooter transport and pick up to the bottom if you wish. We used this option many times. It is a small hotel and so quiet (except night one when the Royals had a huge wedding party, not the hotels fault). Rusma was amazing, as were all the staff. She always went out of her way to help when needed. I stupidly left my diamond band sitting on top of the safe (insert eye roll), I called her on whatsapp and she got the staff to go in a close the wardrobe door and told them not to clean the room until we returned to retrieve the ring. Given the pandemic there were obviously some faults, like the bed wasnt great and the toilet seat was moving (we never bothered to complain) I think they have fared well. If we had not booked and paid to go to Kuta we would of stayed here instead!! We absolutely will stay here again. LOVE LOVE LOVED it.

    Beautiful Samara

    rating27 Sept 2022

Family of 4 returning for 1st time since covid(3 yrs).Dealt directly with Rusma for booking and communication was faultless.Cannot recommend this piece of paradise highly enough.Stayed in 2 bedroom pool villa which we found wonderful due to privacy, peacefulness and outlook to rice fields. The best part of Samara Villas is the staff. So helpful and nothing is a drama. My young girls loved the motorbike trips into and out of the main Ubud area. Please,if you want quietness in a beautiful surround but close to hustle and bustle......look into this accommadation.
