Very Pleasant, Good Location, Nice Value

    rating16 Jun 2025

A clean, comfortable, attractive property with a nice staff and a good location across the street from Pine Lake and just a few minutes from the Toll Road exit. Breakfast was varied and satisfying. We've stayed at several places in the Michigan City/LaPorte area (including this one a couple of times) and this is one of the nicest and best values. We plan to stay here again when we visit again later this year.

Worst, most horrible hotel experience ever.

    rating17 Dec 2024

You'll be sorry you asked; this has all been reported to corporate. 1.) Two wobbly tables in breakfast area that kept spilling coffee/juice but that's only the beginning. 2.) Clunky, dangerous, slow elevator; 3.) Heavy vinegar taste in the coffee, indicating you don't rinse out the vinegar used to clean coffee maker/pots. 4.) Pressure to get me out well before the noon checkout time; what's with getting a phone call from desk to this effect PLUS housekeepers/carts camping right outside my hotel door waiting for me to leave --- and telling me as much --- even though I was still having breakfast, coffee, workout.Never experienced anything so rude! Noon means noon!; 5.) Front-desk guy and an employee loudly arguing within a few feet of where I was trying to enjoy some coffee and peace and quiet; they were yelling at each other in foreign language so don't know what they were arguing about. 6.) Not only that, same front-desk guy, confusing me with someone else as I was about to drive away -- he called me "Travis" even though my name is Mike --- banged on my passenger window and demanded to know why I wasn't honoring my "3-night stay." HE HAD JUST CHECKED ME OUT MINS EARLIER and could clearly see it was a 1-day stay; I have never stayed there more than one night. Check my travel history with you; La Porte is always a halfway rest stop between northeastern Wisconsin and northern Ohio, a trip I make annually. Instead of accusing me, a person with no record, of some sort of fraud, why don't you train your brain to recognize names/reservations correctly? I'm not "Travis!" Never was! I was booked online for one night only, and the (nice) lady who checked me in the night before repeated that fact and, correctly, charged me for just one night. I did not wind up getting charged for more than one night, but it was still a hassle and an insulting type of accusation. I should add that, all of these complaints (here and below) apply to my stays on both Oct. 10 and 15, even though technically this review is supposed to be for the 10th. Worst hotel experience ever, and likely qualifies as the worst hospitality/service industry experience of any type ever. This front-desk failure of an employee was also the same one who was, as noted earlier, arguing loudly in the middle of the breakfast lounge and pressuring me to leave 3 hours before checkout time.7.) Haven't even gotten to the most egregious. Housekeepers eating up all of the food meant for guests, leaving the buffet at various times out of breakfast sausages and omelets. Housekeepers, as far as I can tell, trickle in around 9 or 9:30 a.m. for 10 a.m. shift. Must be a perk of the job to get free breakfast, but not at the expense of guests! I'm a late-comer for breakfast typically --- but not close to being later than the 9:30 end of breakfast --- but if you're on the later end of that time-frame, the housekeepers gobble up everything and it's a crap-shoot whether you can convince the staff to put more out. Breakfast attendant told me she's raised this concern "500 times" to no avail; indicates poor or weak management. 8.) Housekeepers -- sensing a trend here? -- taking up every seat and couch at the TV/social lounge adjacent to the breakfast dining area; hoped to have my post-meal coffee here to allow the clean-up of the breakfast area to begin. No such luck. 9.) One loudmouth housekeeper --- from the social area that doesn't belong to her --- blabbing at the top of her lungs (to whom, I don't know; maybe a co-worker at the front desk) that she wanted to change the channel from CNN (as if this is her choice, and not the guests') and then declared why. My review has been rejected previously because I directly quoted her disgusting, offensive comments, meaning the online censor threw it back at me thinking that I was the one making those rude statements (to put it kindly; apparently if I'm any more specific I will get turned down again). Let's just say she made comments denigrating people of my philosophical stripes --- and, located just 50 miles or so from Chicago, this hotel would no doubt cater to many, many, many people of this same stripe. Really good for business! Maybe management should tell her to keep her canyon-like big trap shut, because our money is green, too --- not that you're going to see any more of it. The Holiday Inn Express across the street treated me very warmly and kindly in one previous stay, and has far better facilities. The only advantage you had was price, and now you've forfeited it. Goodbye, forever, from a loyal -- albeit only twice-a-year -- customer. Keep in mind, all of those horror stories listed above occurred in a time window of just 30 hours or so (overnight stays of roughly 14 and 16 hours, respectively). Just forewarning others to avoid this place if they don't want the same miserable service and wasted money.

    Needs cleanliness improvement

    rating26 Nov 2024

I'd stay here again but this hotel needs some improvement still. I'm surprised by how many reviews raved about the cleanliness. The hotel is definitely not brand-spanking-new but it still could be cleaner. (See pics)Beds and pillows were comfy and staff were nice.

    Great stay

    rating23 Aug 2024

Lovely stay. Got in late, and the front desk young man was great, and very accommodating. Gave me a great room. The room was very nice and most importantly it was quiet. Decent water pressure and a basic breakfast. Plenty of parking and a small pool. Worth a stay.
