    Not so good

    rating18 Feb 2017

A beautiful Villa with lovely views, spacious and comfortable. Swimming pool clean and perfect for us, unfortunately the sun never gets to that area so no good for sunbathing and no shallow end if you have children. Bedrooms quite noisy early in the morning with traffic on the road quite near. Staff tried very hard to be helpful but did not seem to understand our need for privacy even after we asked them not to enter unless we asked them to. All open plan downstairs, we even found the driver using our toilet one morning at 7.30, not very nice when padding about in pj's making tea. Unfortunately the biggest downside was the lack of cleanliness, kitchen could do with a big deep clean and the pantry/larder had a lot of open packets of soups/cereal etc left by previous occupiers which had attracted mice/rats, evidence of them were the droppings. A driver is included for 8 hours a day which has to be used in one block which means you cannot go out in the morning for a few hours and then again in the evening, a bit of a draw back as there is nothing within walking distance. A lovely roof terrace where the staff will bbq for you at an extra charge. Vasily_Pr, Owner at Villa Sky House, responded to this review Dear Shannon, on behalf of us at Sky House - thank you for choosing us as your holiday home in Bali, and we are very sorry about we couldn't meet your expectations. It's very unusual that our crew didn't fulfil your requirements for a complete privacy - Bali is getting popular with the guests from the Middle East and it's becoming quite a regular requirement to don't step inside of the house while tenants do not permit it. I believe it wouldn't have happened if it had been adequately explained about your privacy preferences. Sorry, I'm not sure if the driver made you confused - he was helping the other staff to change a bottle in a water dispenser, as it was early morning hours, so, then you can have a full and fresh gallon of water for the entire day. Bringing a new bottle of water is, of course, has to be sometimes done otherwise there will be no water to make a tea. Regarding our driver's working hours - yes, his one shift is 8 hours to stay with the guests (not including car delivery time, so, in fact, it's longer). And if someone works more than 8 hours, he has to be paid additionally (we pay for a car, and a driver fee and our guests pay for petrol, parking and extra hours if they want to use a car for more than 8 hours). I don't know any other villa in this price category providing a comfortable air-conditioned car with very friendly and knowledgable English-speaking driver included in rental price. We are very sorry about your misunderstood that in a private villa like the Sky House (incomparable to hotel managed villas) we always stock basic spices, oils and cooking sauces especially for Asian meals - so then every group of the guests wouldn't be in need of buying all basic things to make a breakfast or fried rice in the morning. Our intention is clear to help our guests to feel more comfortable and save your costs on holiday. I personally don't like to find a house with a purely empty kitchen on my journeys, but really appreciate if the kitchen is stocked with at least basic things. Also, cooking Asian meals like all guests' favourite "Nasi Goreng" for breakfast require quite a few of bottles and spices as well as rice (or noodles). Not sure what did you mean about "rats or mice" - beeing in the middle of rural area we were very concerned about don't have any dangerous animals inside of the house, that's why we installed expansive double glazed doors and windows all around the ground floor - this make it impossible for any animal to sneak inside of the house except for lovely geckos (little lizards) living inside of every dwelling in Asia, they are our friends and they eat bugs, mosquitos and spiders. We don't kill geckos (nobody does) and, occasionally, people can mix up gecko's droppings with mice droppings as they look pretty much similar. However, the house is cleaned twice daily and we try our best to keep it spotlessly clean, and we also do a general cleaning in between of two groups of the guests bringing additional daily workers to help our in-house team. I'm really sorry for your feelings and that we didn't deliver what you were expecting - I believe it takes time to adapt to a totally different nature in Asia, which includes different bugs and animals living side-by-side with humans not like in sterilised cities. Wish you have beautiful and enjoyable onward journeys in Asia! We would be happy to meet you at any time again, and I would personally welcome you in the villa to show around and to eliminate any possible concerns if they happen. On behalf of the Sky House team,Vasily (Dino), the villa owner

Sligthly above average, I would rate it 3.5 stars

    rating21 Apr 2014

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights from 16th to 20th April.I very much want to give a higher rating but there are few negative points that stopped me. A few but important points.OK firstly the positive points. The outlook of the villa is exactly like the photos advertised. It looks grand and modern. I only wished my own house is as beautiful as it. Each room is beautifully decorated. The manager (Tatang) and butler (Nyoman) is friendly and accommodating. However we didn't need to use much of their service as my husband and I were out nearly the whole day. Their service is typically 9am-5pm. We only saw them in the morning when they come to cook breakfast. After which we'll go out and they will clean the villa. The bed is comfortable but the pillows are not. Pillows are too soft and lumpy, no support at all.The media room is wonderful. We love watching movies and playing Playstation there. The sound system is great.Bathtub is so big, especially the one in the master bedroom. It can fit 2 people. Very romantic to have bubble bath together so comfortably. The negatives:-1) Both the bedrooms are facing a busy road (Jalan Goa Gong) and it wasn't soundproof. So you can imagine how noisy it was. A lot of motorbikes passing by. To be fair there wasn't much vehicles late at night (and luckily we usually turn in late at 11pm or 12am and thus we could go to sleep) but it started to have more vehicles early in the morning (7am) and because of that I couldn't sleep more. I know some of you all would say we are crazy to waste time sleep in and not go out exploring bali but hey it's our vacation, we do want the chance to just be a bum and sleep more.2) There are a lot of ants in the kitchen and dining area. I suspect there is a colony somewhere near the kitchen/dining area. On the 1st night, we had dinner in the villa and within minutes of placing the food on the dining table, so many ants came crawling on the table. and some were crawling on me. My husband and I had to hurriedly finish our dinner and clean up the dining table. Please don't tell me it's a tropical country thing. I come from Malaysia (which is a tropical country too) and my house don't have ants problem. It's a cleanliness issue. Because the staff only work until 5pm, I suspect the previous families that stayed before us don't clean up after their dinner/supper or late night meals, resulting in crumbs or food bits left on the table or floor the whole night until the next morning. These will attract ants to come and build a colony in the cracks and crevice in the house.3) Ok This is very minor but just find it slightly inconvenient - there is no hook in the bathroom or bedrooms. None at all. How to hang towel or clothes? Weird.Note to families with young children that cannot swim, the swimming pool has no shallow end, in fact at one of the end, it is very deep, 2 meter. In conclusion, would I return to this villa again? Well, unless the owner changed the bedroom windows to soundproof ones, no I think most probably I would not. Sleep is just too important to me. Vasily_VillaNaBali, Owner at Villa Sky House, responded to this review Dear guests,First of all. Thank you very much for your choice and opportunity to serve you during your holiday in Bali. We understand you mostly enjoyed your stay. And we're taking seriously every comment to make sure our guests are happy. Also thank you for time you spent writing this review and also for positive thinking about interiors and facilities of the Sky House. We try to charge fair price and offer outstanding value for money, while we never stop to make our villa better and better. We're really sorry for our staff. They didn't tell us about that issue you had with bugs and ants. You saw we're very anxious about cleanness of our property. Our villas are always tidy and clean to perfection. I'll talk seriously to Tatang (who is a butler) and Nyoman (who is a villa attendant) about this situation to make sure none of our guest will have ants. Again, we do apologise you saw this ants in a kitchen and we didn't know about this.About no hooks in bathrooms. Well, we agree. We don't have them. And thank you for pointing our attention to this. The both bathrooms are so spacious that you're the first of our guest who said we need a hook on a wall. I mean, there are so many surfaces to where you can leave your dress, that we didn't even think about we need a hook. And for the towels, there are rails on the wall - separately for bath towels and hand towels. For the pillows. We do provide two pillows per person - one really big and one is smaller. I found bigger pillow too hard for me and I only use smaller pillow when I stay in Sky House. We use only quality King-Koil product. We'll check whether everything is all-right with our pillows. The softness of pillows is the everyone's personal preference. What is hard for me, too soft for you. We're sorry for that. However, for all guests we will continue to provide one harder pillow and one more soft. The sound proofing is our concern as well as we love good sleep. It was not easy to arrange quality sound-proofing doors and windows since supplier we used before disappeared. But now we found new supplier and we already paid deposit for brand new excellent quality doors and windows with good sound proofing to be installed in June 2014. However, with new blackout curtains, quality bedding and very quite modern air-conditioners, our sleep was never better than now if we stay in Sky House.Let me invite you again to stay in our villa base on a special rate you paid, to test new sound proofed windows. Please contact us from the villa's web site if you're interested.Thank you very much for your choice and staying in Sky House recently. And we're looking forward to welcome you again soon!Kind regards, Vasily & Vasilyowners

This impressive beautiful home is so comfortable and relaxing it is a pleasure to the senses.

What a great experience it was being spoiled by the Budi and his crew. Budi's nasi goring was not only the tastiest but the most beautifully presented I have ever experienced. One night, with the help of an additional chef we had a very special BBQ banquet while watching the sunset from the roof top garden. This roof top area is great for sunbathing and relaxing on the large bale which has a great sound system. I would definitely recommend Sky House for a relaxing retreat.

    Great experience

    rating04 Oct 2013

This villa is beautifully presented and very spacious. The staff were all excellent, spoke good English and were extremely helpful. Budhi the butler cooked delicious breakfasts and we also enjoyed a great dinner from the private chef served on the rooftop. The rooftop pavilion is an absolute delight in the evenings with glorious views - made even better by the cocktails that our butler prepared! It was our anniversary during the stay and we were delighted to arrive home that night to find that the villa had been romantically decorated for us. A very special personal touch that we really appreciated. The pool was a good size and had a good combination of sun and shade. it was great to be able to step just outside the door and into the pool. It was also very convenient to have an indoor area just off the pool that was had wooden decking so that we could dry off and relax there without messing up the rest of the house with drippy wet feet.If you want a private & relaxing holiday away from it all this is the place. If you want to go shopping and eating in restaurants every day then you would need to use the driver a lot.

    Excellent stay

    rating13 Sept 2013

Excellent service rendered by butler Budi & Nyoman the housekeeper. The driver, Koming was fantastic too. American breakfast was served daily. All of our requests like decorating the villa for my boy's birthday & bringing us to places of interest/famous eateries were met.Budi & Koming brought us to the local wet market for our selection of seafood for BBQ. The seafood was fresh & sweetest we have ever tasted. The pavilion on the roof was breezy. Could see sunrise & sunset from afar. The rooms were spacious, including the bathroom. However, rain shower & bathtub was provided on both common & master bedroom. Rather inconvenient for guest whom do not wish to damp their hair. Villa should provide shower stand with shower head & shower cap."HAPPY BIRTHDAY" design were decorated on the bed & walkways with flowers. We were thrilled by the effort. Budi being local, bargained & informed us of good buys & we had a great time shopping.Overall, an excellent 1 week stay & we promised we will be back for more pampering.
