  Excellent location and good value

  We had a wonderful stay at Albergo Il Sole in the heart of Bergamo’s beautiful Città Alta. The location could hardly be better as it is right in the historic centre, with some rooms even overlooking the main square, which gives the hotel a very special atmosphere. Our room was at the back of the hotel and had lovely mountain views. It was remarkably quiet throughout our stay and we did not hear any noise at all despite people are still roaming in the square till the early hours in the morning. The room itself was functional, comfortable, and perfectly suited for a city break.We visited in May, which turned out to be ideal timing. The temperatures were beginning to rise, but still pleasant enough that we did not feel the need for air conditioning yet.What stood out most was the warm and cordial welcome from the staff. Everyone was genuinely friendly and helpful, and we did not encounter a single issue during our stay.Breakfast was good, but the real highlight for us was the coffee. The cappuccinos were excellent, freshly brewed and prepared with proper barista-style latte art, something we honestly did not expect from a hotel breakfast. That extra attention to detail was the cherry on the cake and made our mornings especially enjoyable.Overall, this is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to stay in the very centre of Bergamo Alta while still enjoying peace, comfort, and authentic hospitality at a reasonable price. This is a 2 star with a 5 star service.

  It just depends on what you are looking for!

  We picked this because of its location in the upper city…with some doubts but the balcony room seemed ok - we messaged them several times prior to our arrival to confirm that we had a balcony room - day before our arrival they told us that it was not available! But trying to be fair we checked in and looked at the room….terrible….hard looking bed, tiny room, no view, only sitting room for one person….we checked out …went to the Gombit and thank goodness for them….Best you can say for Il Sole is central location and cheap….. but for us nonetheless Gombit is much more expensive….but it is beautiful, open and cheerful ….it is about the experience Horacio Diaz Sieiro, Propietario at Albergo Il Sole, responded to this review Dear Andy,Thank you for taking the time to share your candid feedback.We sincerely apologize for the frustration and disappointment you experienced regarding your reservation.   Totally top notch location. Rooms are a bit basic and uninspiring. Breakfast ok but could be better. Lots of flickering lights, ornaments around the place were interesting. There’s a good pizza shop nearby. They can sort parking out for you.   Stayed for one night at this hotelRestaurant was closed on day of arrival but could check in at other hotel nearbyRoom was small with only a fan for air conditioning which was so noisy we turned off at night. The bathroom was very small with sink outside the door and s sliding door which gave no privacy. Also no hot water in shower or sink. Hotel organised a transfer to airport for us but told us we should leave at 6am for 9.40 flight as traffic would be so heavy. The taxi was bringing four other people to the airport as well and took 15 mins and cost us forty euro which we thought was very expensive.   Great stay

  We had a lovely stay for 2 nights in a spacious superior room. We asked for and got the only room with a small balcony. Check in was easy and the hotel is in a great location. We parked in a garage and took the elevator the the top Floor. From there it is a five minute walk. The room was lovely. There is no airconditioning but we left the balcony doors open and it was fine. The delicious Breakfast is in the very cosy bar area. Staff is very friendly.
