  Excellent, five stars all around!

  We had a five star experience at this charming hotel. It's located in a centuries-old stone building, renovated with luxury in mind. Our room overlooked the centuries-old laundry location for the town, which has been renovated to be an utterly unique covered fountain. We listened for the bells of the Campanone ring 100 times every evening at 10 PM. We were in the heart of the Old City, making roaming around easy, able to pop back in for a quick recharge in the afternoon if needed. I had some problems with the Italian postal service, but the staff were able to translate and give some advice when needed. The staff was excellent. The location was excellent. The room was excellent. The breakfast was excellent.

  A very impressive hotel.

  The Gombit is an excellent hotel. There are so many plus points, it would take forever to list them. The conversion from medieval tower, to immaculate four-star delight, is highly impressive. For example, the simple act of getting access to your room. No old fashioned key (to be tediously handed in and collected constantly) or a card (I've lost count of the number of times my “key-card” has had to be “reprogrammed”). Here you have a simple keypad. Tap in a four number code - you're in. Worked like a charm.We usually choose hotels that are central to where the “action” is. The downside to a good location is usually street noise and it would be dishonest to say noise isn't an issue here. However, it wasn’t something that spoiled our stay. As well as the noise from other tourists, Bergamo does like the sound of bells. The big “boomy” bell at ten every evening and the wake-up bells at seven thirty a.m. (to name a couple). As we didn't go to sleep before ten and were awake before seven thirty, those bells didn’t disturb us at all. The area where you take breakfast is small but so well organised it never mattered. There was the usual cold breakfast buffet and a choice of individually prepared hot items. I say “usual cold buffet” but it's anything but. None of the rather bland sliced cheese and meats here - it is all of excellent, small producer quality. Individually ordered items were equally impressive.All the staff at the hotel were friendly and professional. From the lovely ladies at breakfast, to the excellent tips and hints from reception on arrival. It just gave the hotel that extra bit of class. Our room (10) was perfect. It looked new, was well designed and had all the amenities you could wish for. Plus a place for my wife to sit and read and yes…even a TV showing Amazon Prime. I cannot think of a single aspect that I could fault.Some reviewers mentioned the rather slow elevator and it is. However, even getting an elevator in such a historic building is impressive. We have stayed in some establishments (especially in Venice) where elevators were absent due to building constraints. I would think that getting one installed here, provided many logistical and design difficulties. The solution, while a little slow, worked very well during the entire five days of our stay.So if you’re looking for high-speed elevators, gymnasiums, pools and other five star “accoutrements” - there are places in the “low-city” but be warned. If you are concerned about a couple of extra seconds waiting for an elevator - you’re just going to love the queue for the funicular up to the “high-city”. So why not book the Gombit and relax because it is so worth it.   Magnificent Setting - loved the Bells

  Fabulous boutique hotel with a lovely team of people . Set in a wonderful location Gombit Hotel gave us such easy access to Bergamo Alta. Our room was amazing and we loved the sounds of the bells. We were celebrating a special occasion but really hope to return to lovely Bergamo and Gombit Hotel.   Enchanting unique and not a standard experience

  Top enchanting boutique hotel in the centre of Città Alta. I stay in around 60 hotel nights per year and this was the most pleasant of the year (joint perhaps with Radisson Venezia). If you are looking for a standard international hotels with gyms, bars and American breakfast buffet….. this is NOT for you. We stayed in the Torre room which whilst a bit more expensive was worth it. Real professional Lombardian charm from the staff, meaning professional and courteous. No bar no restaurant no spa and no fuss, no gimmick and best of all no greasy hot food served as “special” - perfect ! We will be back !
