Not the best place to stay

    rating10 Aug 2025

This was the first hotel that we stayed at during our ‘Secret Lakes of Italy’ tour, and we stayed there for 3 nights. We don’t usually expect amazing accommodation on escorted tours, but the Hotel Lovere is definitely one of the lower quality hotels that we have stayed in. Luckily, I had checked the reviews and photos of the hotel before booking the tour, so at least our expectations were low. The hotel is at the north end of Lovere, right next to the busy lakeside road. Our arrival was not particularly auspicious, as the hotel car park was not big enough to accommodate our coach and we had to get out on the side of the road and then drag our cases to reception (as there are no porters). The hotel itself is a rather odd jumble of hotel buildings, shops and offices, and clearly hasn’t been fully renovated for a long time. Check-in was relatively swift, despite being part of a large group, but it took a while to get up to our room due to the tiny and very slow lift. There was a really unpleasant and pervasive smell in the building as well. Once we finally reached our Standard Room, as expected, it was at the back of the building with a view of concrete walls and air conditioning pipes. The room was a decent size, but the décor was very old fashioned and dilapidated, so we were really glad that we were not planning to spend much time in the room. In particular, the plug sockets were not properly attached, so we had to be really careful with our electrical items. The fridge worked well though, and it was great to be able to keep our water cold when it was so hot outside. The air conditioning was ok too. We were glad that we did not pay any extra for an upgraded room, but some of our group did think that these rooms were worth the extra cost.As part of our tour, a group dinner was included in the hotel’s restaurant on our first night. We were a large group, and the restaurant was very busy that night, but we were nevertheless disappointed by the L-shaped seating arrangement, which meant that we had no-one sat opposite us and made getting to know the other tour guests quite difficult. Despite the restaurant having an extensive menu, we were given a set menu with no choice, other than ‘meat, fish or vegetarian’, and, even then, some guests were given the wrong food. The food was basic and pretty bland – and definitely not a good reflection of the lovely food that we had elsewhere in Lovere. We had stuffed pasta as the starter, beef and plain potatoes with no vegetables or garnish for the main course, followed by apple tart for dessert. Breakfast was also quite disappointing, with a basic and repetitive choice each morning. The only redeeming feature was the lovely views from the restaurant terrace, but the staff did not seem keen to lay the tables outside, so we ended up having to do this ourselves. We did not have time to make use of the spa facilities, but we do not think that they would have been able to make up for the other issues with the hotel. We understand that star ratings are calculated in different ways in different countries but, while this hotel is considered to be 4-star by Italian standards, it would barely reach 3-star standard in the UK. If you are staying as part of a group tour, don’t panic, it’s fine for that, but I definitely would not recommend booking here out of choice. Lovere is a lovely place, and Lake Iseo is beautiful, but there are undoubtedly better hotels to stay at in the area than this one. Hotel Lovere, Direttore generale at Hotel Lovere Resort & Spa, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you very much for sharing your detailed experience during your stay at Hotel Lovere as part of the “Secret Lakes of Italy” tour. We regret that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations, and we truly appreciate your feedback, which helps us improve our services. However, we would like to kindly clarify a few points. The rooms provided were standard, as inspected and approved by the representatives of the London agency. Regarding the menu, it was not decided by us but by the London agency representatives, and was carefully planned to feature local specialties from the region.Concerning the seating arrangement, the table was not L-shaped, but arranged as a single table where guests were seated opposite each other. As for breakfast, the tables were set individually in the morning, not using the same arrangement as the previous evening. With respect to baggage handling, assistance was indeed available, though it appears the guide was not aware of this. Additionally, at the time of your arrival, Lovere’s local market was taking place, and the coach driver was unwilling to enter our small piazza, which unfortunately impacted the parking situation. We hope this clarifies these matters and once again thank you for your valuable comments.Angelo RossoGeneral Manager

High recommended for staying in Lovere

    rating10 Aug 2025

Without any recommendation, we booked a short vacation with my family here as a location which was closer to Valcamonica area but not far from services being with 2 children. Our experience can be only positive, we choose the half boar treatment and we got as expected, room was daily well cleaned, breackfast and dinner was right for the hotel level.Unfortunately, due to our vacation schedule, we did not teste the other services but browsing the brochure and talking with the staff there are many options. We have in particolar appreciated the free parking for the guests in the hotel (there are free parking options nearby but always busy), the restourant during the dinner and the staff kindness.I did not annex pictures of my experience since the already upload from others are better than myne. Hotel Lovere, Direttore generale at Hotel Lovere Resort & Spa, responded to this review Dear Mr Stefano, We sincerely thank you for your review and for the kind words you have expressed towards our staff, which I will be sure to pass on to the entire team, as well as for your appreciation of the services offered. We look forward to welcoming you again.Angelo RossoGeneral Manager

    Stay Somewhere Else

    rating08 Sept 2024

A very disappointing stay. Our room was like a prison cell; by far the worst room in all our travels - small window, one cupboard - no drawers just 2 shelves, sub standard toiletries, at the end of a maze of corridors above the spa. Tea and coffee is a joke - kettle doesn’t even plug in anywhere except on the floor - paper cups and no milk. Kettle is a health and safety hazard as doesn’t turn off, just overheats! Hairdryer ancient - it won’t dry your hair. AC noisy. A shower you can’t turn around in. A broken toilet seat. A sink where the tap prefers to spray the water outside the sink… a heavy sliding door… I could go on…If you are offered room 210 …run…. We could not change room as the hotel was ‘full’ the next evening - and reception were not willing to move us and to put a new booking in our so called ‘standard room’ - basically because this room should be closed off! The room is very noisy as it faces a multiple AC Unit from another building which is on 24hrs.There isn’t really a bar that you can sit at; you can sit on hard, wooden seats on the terrace. Inside dining area very bland. You pay extra to use the spa which looks nothing like the pictures and there are certainly some weird smells around that area. Busy road in front of the hotel, watch out if you’ve booked a lake view that you don’t receive a ‘wall’ view. Definitely not a 4* hotel… bordering on a 2* The hotel is about 12-15mins walk to the centre of Lovere, which is ok but not worth going out of your way for; there are far prettier lake towns I believe - so do some research before coming this way... Hotel Lovere, Direttore generale at Hotel Lovere Resort & Spa, responded to this review Dear Guest,I’d like to inform you that what you said doesn’t match reality, except for the paper glasses, wrapped individually, but what do you know about hygiene standards and HACCP.Only because you wanted a lake view room without paying extra (like other guests). We also received your complaint (with a refund request, which was denied). The way you described both us and the agency says a lot about you.Angelo RossoGeneral Manager

Mixed experiences, not something to repeat

    rating31 Aug 2024

We drove up and were a bit shocked. First impression was nothing like the website. An easy to miss entrance for a parking next to a derelict building. The parking itself looked.. shocking. Hotel is located in the north of lovere, the center is about a km walking away. There's a busy road between the hotel and the lake.Reception was indeed tiny and manned by two people who seemed a bit surprised to see foreigners. Finding our room was a challenge. The hotel is spread over several linked building and the signs are not very clear. Corridors are well kept except for some funky smells including an intense burned rubber in an elevator. When we'd found our room we both pulled out our phones and started looking for alternative hotels. We ended up staying. Because we'd prepaid. (there's a lesson learned!) Room was very clean and recently modernised (bathroom was 1990s vintage though). We did have lake view. It was behind the derelict building across the road. We also had a good view of the roof of another part of the hotel which showed evidence of a recent chimney fire and roofing tile damage which did cause issues for that part of the hotel during a thunderstorm. There's a balcony with the room, unfortunately smoking is allowed there. Housekeeping was good. Wifi was speedy. Downside to the room on the 3rd floor was the drone of a huge airconditioner on the floor below us. Started up and it was like being on a cruise ship about to leave port.Breakfast was in pinocchio restaurant, which I will review separately, and I found little to complain. Yes it's Italian and they like sweet things for breakfast. But the fruit and the coffee was good as was the service. There's a spa but between the constant reminders to pre book everything well in advance (I'm on holiday, I like to avoid making plans!) and exploring the lake we didn't get around to it.There's no bar, lobby, lounge or anything else reallyThis hotel presents itself as a luxury relaxation destination in a pretty town on the lake. And it's failing there. The whole vibe of the derelict buildings around it and the empty shopping spaces around the hotel grounds is not one of luxury. The road doesn't help. Would I come back here? No. There's not that much to do in Lovere and I can do without the constant airconditioning drone! Hotel Lovere, Direttore generale at Hotel Lovere Resort & Spa, responded to this review Dear Guest,we thank you for your feedback, and we regret to know that you haven’t been fully satisfied. Your comments will therefore be a valuable opportunity for further improvement.Best regardsAngelo RossoGeneral Manager

    Dusapointed!

Sorry, but the hotell is not a 4 star!!The hotell is in need of a maintance and a big «freshing up».The location is next to the main road, so you can not have the door open, because of heavy noise. The bathroom had no shampo, condition, lotion only one soap for all. The minibar had two bottles with water and one bottle with sparkling wine. Air condition did not work. The breakfast was poor, compared to what is at a 4 star hotell. Can not recommend this. The staff serving breakfast was the only possitive thing
