Very good B&B, little English spoken

    rating17 Jun 2018

This was on our route and proved to be a good B&B for an overnight stay. Our room was clean and comfortable. It had an accessible bathroom (not requested) and the shower was only separated by a curtain allowing the whole bathroom floor to get wet. We were able to manage, but I wouldn't have wanted to deal with it more than 1 night. Breakfast was provided and was nicely presented. A little limited but enough to have a bite before heading out. The people seemed very nice but had little English so no communication of any kind. All adequate for our one overnight.

Lovely place, excellent staff and service

    rating05 Nov 2017

We had a medical issue upon arriving at this establishment. Roberto went out of his way to help us, his kindness and generosity, on top of the lovely room and wonderful service, truly earn a 5/5 rating. The room is above the breakfast/check-in room, up a flight of stairs. The door looks like it could be on a bank safe (it’s thick), the beds (a large 2 person bed and a single bed) are comfortable as are the bedding and towels. Bedside tables and lamps are appreciated as we like to read before going to sleep. The room offers air conditioning and heat, though we didn’t need either. The bathroom is nice with new fixtures and the most interesting faucet. The views from the room (be they of the hillside villages or of the interesting looking old-style building which is part of the establishment) are lovely. There are several pleasant outside places to sit and enjoy the afternoon or evening. Breakfast was very good and the ladies who serve are very helpful in planning your adventures. They will provide you with whatever kind of buns or sweat croissants you would like, along with that there is meat, cheese, jams, juices and good coffee. We were even able to make a sandwich with our left over cheese/meat and buns, very tasty. We’d love to go back to this great place.

Cosy stay over close to cinque terre

    rating02 Aug 2014

We stayed here as a base for our cinque terre. Upon arrival we were somewhat dissappointed that the train for La Spezia/cinque terre only had approx 4 departures daily (so if plan ahead if you want to take the train). However, as we had a rental we could easily drive the short distance so this was not a major thing (watch out for expensive parking close til cinque terre though). More importantly, the room was spacious, modern and with all necessary amenities. The hosts were kind and accomodating, though their english was somewhat broken. One of the best stays in our tour of Tuscany (+5 terre) and have to agree with other reviewers that the ambiance was marvellous. Recommended!

    Quaint b&b

    rating25 May 2014

Wonderful hospitality. Roberto was just great at giving us good recs for local cuisine and sites to see that we didn't know about. The town we visited nearby was so charming and we had a great meal to complete the day.

    A romantic corner in Liguria

    rating11 Jan 2014

We arrived at Santo Stefano Magra late at night after a long trip with too many stops: from Castlerock-Belfast-London-Genova. Roberto was waiting for us and gave us a very warm welcome. We felt immediately at home. The light surrounding the Casale del Giglio at night communicate a sense of mystery and romance. Each room has a patio looking towards the garden that has an antique fountain and fruit trees. Rooms are small, cosy and very comfortable and decorated in an elegant antique fashion. Candle and books completed the atmosphere. At breakfast (served by Roberto himself) we were welcomed by Roberto's dog, a shepard that made as feel part of the family. We highly recommend the Casale del Giglio to anyone visiting Liguria and like to feel at home.
