  Charming Hotel, Beautiful Gardens but could be improved - Not a 5* experience.

  This was a magical experience in a great hotel but they could make some small changes that would deserve it's 5 stars. The check in procedure was great, my room was ready by 10am. I only had a single room so was pleansantly surprised it had a double bed. The shower was 1m square and very tight for space. The shower head was broken in it's bracket and kept flopping down. I reported to reception on day 2 and was promised a repair guy was going to fix it. It remained broken until I checked out. On day one, it was overcast and there were only a handful of people on sun loungers. The pool bar was open but no-one manning it, consequently, I could not get a pool towel and had to go back to the reception lobby to get a drink. I mentioned this to the manager who said he had probably gone to do something else. I was there for 2 1/2 hours and no-one came to man the bar. However, days 2-5 were manned all day by friendly waiters. Aperol Spritz and Mojito's were beautiful and in my opinion far too cheap. They were only €4.50 - great for the guest but I am sure the hotel could increase to €7.50 and guests would still pay. In Spain, hotels generally charge €10 for cocktails and spritzers. The garden and pool areas are the best I have ever come across. Every single bubble bed, jacuzzi, power jet, massage section was fully operational and spotlessly clean. I was delighed to see tame rabbits nestled in and around the grounds, this was a real treat. The gardens were a slice of heaven with the hammocks and gorgeous fir trees that offered dappled shade for those that wanted to be out of the full sun. I was disappointed that there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. Even in 2-3 star hotels, this has always been a pre-requesite expectation. Breakfast was dissapointingly not 5 star and I think this let the hotel down badly. There was scrambled egg and bacon in metal servers but on all days, both the egg and bacon were cold (not even lukewarm). There were a range of continental breakfast items but nothing cooked to order and nothing hot. It felt that this hotel was used to catering for Italian guests as I was one of only 3 other English guests. All of use were disappointed in the food. The local supermarket is 10 minutes away and is huge and stocks everything you could need. The down is only 8 minutes away and had a good selection of fish, pizza and pasta restarurants. Many reported the dated tired decor, on the contrary I felt like I had stepped back in time. Time has stood still and it is true there are no mod cons in the rooms. However, this was part of the charm of this beautiful hotel. It transported you back to a time less complicated, a time without smart phones, social media and technology. Just a quintisenntial real nugget of history in this beautiful North Italian thermal town. If travelling to Marco Polo airport, it can be costly to get a taxi (around €140). I jumped on the number 15 bus to Venentzia Mestre, it takes 15 minus and is €10. You can pay cash or tap on and off with a card or smart phone. Venetzia Mestre is a train station with trains running every 20 minutes to Padova (pronounced Padua). Look for Padua on the timetable. You can then get a taxi to Abano Terme which is between €36-40.Be careful asking for assitance at Venetzia Mestre, I asked for help and the ticket lady directed me to a train that cost €25 and was a later time than the earliest shown. The ticket lady said that was an old timetable, however, I went outside and repeated the process on the ticket machine without her support and found I could travel an hour earlier for only €4.50 for the whole journey.   The hotel was spotless! Every corner, from the lobby to the rooms, was impeccably clean. The bathroom was sparkling clean with fresh towels and toiletries replenished each day. The room was spacious and cozy, with modern furnishings that made it feel like homeThe temperature control in the room worked perfectly, ensuring I was always comfortable regardless of the weather outside.The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. Our servers Mihaela and Natalia were friendly, knowledgeable, and always had a smile.   I recently spent ten days with my partner in the Abano Ritz. I do not recommend this hotel because of:A) Rudeness of head waiter who mockingly turned his back on us the first morning when we wanted to order our coffee;B)this same individual who would bump into another staff member without apology;C) and who promised to send soup up to one of us who had caught a virus, and then did nothing, remarking that there was a hospital nearby !D) The spa doctor who promised to provide antibiotics and paracetamol for us because of the virus, and did nothing until reminded;E) The reception which had no idea of when the buses to Padua ran. One handicapped guest who wanted to visit Padua had to wait for an hour, because no proper timetable was available.If you have arrived by private transport, are in perfect health all the time and don’t need any thing out of the ordinary, you may enjoy the faded glory of this hotel.   I really enjoyed my week long stay in this hotel. It has a beautiful old world charm, in a stunning location with excellent health treatments and kind, friendly staff. Family run, with attention to detail and 2 amazing thermal pools. The environment is calm and relaxed. The garden is shaded and peaceful with mature trees and hammocks. I would particularly thank Frederica, who individualized our stay, had excellent English and could not have done more. Particular compliments also to the lovely Constantino for his reflexology and excellent health advice, as a qualified doctor in natural medicine. Lovely, healthy food. Bedrooms spotless. I would love to visit again.   Faded Glory (but we had a good time)

  The Abano Ritz was probably, at one time, one of the nicest spa resorts in Abano Terme. The lobby is luxurious, the rooms large and the dining room elegant.Unfortunately, this property has not kept up with the times. Although it is ranked as a 5-star property, the Ritz in no way compares to some of the other true 5-star hotels in Abano. The grounds are overgrown, the furniture and rooms are dated and even the cleanliness of the pools is lacking.We wanted to love this place as the proprietor is friendly and the staff are hard working. The negatives however outweigh the positives. In particular the breakfast is very disappointing. No hot food with the exception of some very watery eggs unless you want to pay extra. The cold cuts were of average quality and the pastries just passable. This is an area that could easily and quickly be improved.Dinner was family style and of good quality. However, this property is competing against other hotels in town that offer a proper antipasti buffet, a dessert buffet and more menu selections.The pool area is quite nice, but dated and far too small for the number of guests. The proprietor would be smart to consider adding a second pool and lounge chairs in the rear garden area that is largely unused and somewhat overgrown. Hopefully she will consider this upgrade for the future.Finally, the internet was completely unusable for most of our stay. Often we were unable to login even with good reception. Other times the internet dropped and we were unable to connect for hours. We spoke with reception about this issue a few times, but were told there was no problem. The lobby is luxurious, the rooms large and the dining room elegant. the owner is nice and the staff work hard.There is a second swimming pool while the first is a semi-Olympic one, the 6000 m2 park suffered a bit from the climate and was undergoing maintenance. We don't prefer buffets but we like the gueridon service. Thank you for reporting the connection issue as we have just finished strengthening and speeding it up.
