    The breakfast room

    rating04 Nov 2024

The staff overall are pleasant and the breakfast dishes available, offer many plentiful options. The two things to note is that the certain member of the breakfast team does not replenish the buffet, leaving almost empty to empty plates for some dishes. Moreover, there are certain dishes that are being used past their 'best before' date, by the inherent colour, watery taste, as well as appearance of the dish. Things to remember for the breakfast team is to constantly keep the buffet filled and replenished, and to not continue to serve food dishes that have clearly surpassed their 'best before' date. Second note for the same certain member of the breakfast team, please do not deliberately refuse and disallow guests from sitting anywhere in the breakfast room. As a guest, there ought to be options provided with seating, given the sunny room arrangement of the breakfast area, so as to avoid the discomfort of sitting in an area under the hot sun, as this causes a most unpleasant feeling and eating environment. To the breakfast team - please be mindful that guests should be able to sit wherever they please, especially when there are instances of minimal numbers of guests in the breakfast area, and ample space available. Guests should be allowed to choose where they sit. Please be kind to your guests. Thank you

Good hotel in need of improvement

    rating14 Aug 2024

Stayed here for 4 nights. The best thing about the hotel is the staff - extremely polite, hard working and efficient. comfortable bed (choice of two pillows ) Breakfast was excellent but the coffee was 70s style left sitting on the hot plate - v stale. We saw someone asked for fresh coffee and they provided but its not obvious. Close to the station is a plus for travellers. First room they gave us had water dripping from the ceiling - they changed it and offered us a free coffee from the bar!!. the second room had the shower drains blocked - the water collected and flooded out - had to stand in dirty water - lady came immediately to unblock while we were there and told me that it was the hair - this was the first time i had the shower!! this should have been checked. NO COMPLIMENTRY COLD WATER in the heat of 30s which every establishment provides. Hence taken 2 stars off - rooms should be checked and no decent coffee or drinkable water. all the stars for the staff and breakfast

Visit Padova, don’t stay at Hotel Grand’Italia

    rating17 Jun 2024

Padova is among Italy’s lesser known gems it should not be missed. The Hotel Grand’Italia however, should be avoided, the area is unsafe. Day and night African immigrants congregate around the entrance. We were at the center of a brawl when police escorted us to a taxi. A four square block zone surrounding the hotel is a blight on an otherwise impeccably maintained city.Hotel policies are downright customer unfriendly. Remain in your room after noon and your room will not be cleaned. Leave the room card in the electrical slot and the room is not cleaned. When this happened on consecutive days we were told these are hotel policies. We were not so advised at check-in. Our suite lacked all traditional amenities…not even a coffee machine. The physical plant is textbook faded elegance.Staff at the hotel were quick to respond to each inconvenience we experienced. Without exception all were true professionals. Same cannot be said for the general manager who lacked the common sense to offer any apology including when a blown fuse left our room without power for five hours.Select a hotel in Old Town…far away from the train station-100 yards from Grand’Italia.

    Not so Grand Italian

    rating02 May 2024

Like a grand Duchess of the turn of the century, by 2024 the elegance has become jaded and faded. My one star was purely do to the staff who seemed to want to please despite their miserable jaded surroundings. The place was very institutionalised and the decor reminded one of a hospital and the furniture in the breakfast room more befitting to a canteen. The walls were a pale institutional green and at best had been painted some time ago. The room was dreary to say the least and the bathroom in the same sanitary green was depressing. The shower grouting was in disrepair and not accessible for those mobility issues. Once a former Grand hotel this is certainly resting on its laurels and is in desperate needs for a refurb and some colour, with someone who cares about its future and has some imagination. It wouldn’t take a great deal to add colour to some of the wall paneling and ditch the sterilised lighting. It’s grand staircase was closed for use (why?) . Breakfast as quoted by another guest was “dated” and insipid. No one can change the location, which was not the best, but as it is so close to all the transport links, if the owner were to spend a relatively small amount making it a Victorian Grand hotel again, I think it would prosper
