    What a dump!

    rating29 Oct 2025

We booked an Elegant Standart room at this hotel for 1 night including parking spot which was the main reason for choosing this place disregarding the bad reviews. How bad could it be for 1 night? Turned out it could be disgusting in more ways then one. We arrived at around 3.30pm and left the next morning at 7 and we were given room No405 which was about 11m2 instead of 19m2 as Elegant Standard room is discribed on their website. The bathroom was so tiny that a big person wouldn't be able to use it and the bed has taken pretty much the whole room. We were travelling for a month and had 2 big suitcases with us which ment we couldn't even open them to change clothes as it was only possible to stand in the room or lay down on the bed it was so small, let alone any space for the luggage.I went downstairs to complain to the owner Sofia and without blinking she lied to my face that all rooms are about the same size! I was too tired to argue but the next morning I complained again to a man at the reception but was rudely dismissed without any apology and still had to pay 220euro for that dirty run down cell of a room.Siena is a beautiful town but it was all spoiled by disgusting hotel and horrible treatment by the stuff who has no idea about Customer Service sadly. Avoid at all costs!

Average level hotel however they need to modernise the rooms for the price charged

Liked · We had the ultra quadruple room and the balcony was excellent and had an amazing view of Siena. The staff were super nice and helpful. They helped us when we ordered a take away and provided us with plates and cutlery and were lovely on check in. They even entertained my bad Italian! The garage is a great perk, although you pay €20, it is overnight and they allowed us to continue parking until we left, 3 hrs after check out. It is slightly out on the edge of the main attractions, but still within a comfortable walking distance and was just outside the ZTL charging zone, so you manage to avoid it and the garage means you don’t risk going into it by looking for parking, as it is within walking distance. Air conditioning was very good in the roomDisliked · It was like walking into the 1980s! Although it was comfortable and clean, it was very dated and was ok for a one night stop over but orange nylon covers went out in the 70s! For a quadruple family room, it was cramped and small, and we could just about fit in, with our luggage. It was pricey compared to other modernised hotels we had stayed in on our trip.In the room was a coffee machine and tea making facilities, but no tea or coffee! I asked at reception and she was clear they don’t provide these - why have a tea tray with no tea and why have a coffee machine with no coffee capsules!! The mini bar was just a mini fridge, there was no bar and had small bottles of water in it. I suspect they want you to go down and use the bar. The fridge opened in a different direction to the door over it and with a child bed in front of it, it was difficult to open!Breakfast was awful and the worst we had experienced on our trip and we had stayed in a number of hotels. The croissants were badly burned, the choice of cereals was poor, the milk was warm due to heat and when it was refreshed it was still warm, which was probably due to being left out in the kitchen before coming out. The yoghurts were warm, and were in a chiller and we declined to eat them as they are probably going warm and cold each day. Fruit option was limited. The coffee was ok and the eggs were ok.For the price of room - €200 per night, it was a little poor.

A little far away from the action, but otherwise a decent hotel

Other reviews were all over the place. I guess it depends on one’s luck of draw on particular room? Mine was fine. No problem. AC works fine. I was there during the Palio. So needless to say it’s noisy with all the singing and chanting. But I thought that’s part of the charm of the festivity. I suspect that’s the same at every hotel, probably even more so for hotels in the center of town! Your mindset may impact your perspective if you’re not expecting it. Also, because it’s Palio week, it’s rather pricy no matter how you look at it. It’s a long and uphill walk to get into the city center. The street is a bit desolate at times, especially after dark. On the other hand, it’s an easy walk to the “restaurant row”.

    Sweet spot in Siena

We had a great stay at Hotel Minerva. Wonderful breakfast area and good breakfast choices. Outdoor area was nice and provided a great view of Siena. The room was clean and refreshed daily. They also are located outside the ZTL area and they have covered parking for a nominal fee. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends and family

    Fine hotel - fair prices

    rating21 May 2025

Fine hotel with parking. At the bottom of a hill so it’s a bit of a walk to piazza del Campo and town center. My wife has since been having hip problems so walking would be trouble but prior to that the walk was ok. Not too far from train station. Rooms with view of city. Prices were moderate. Would stay again .
