Hotel Girasole is dated and did not meet our expectations for cleanliness or comfort.

    rating02 Feb 2026

Hotel Girasole – Sorrento: Please take the time to read the reviews for this hotel before booking. Unfortunately, we did not do so, and yet our experience closely reflected the concerns raised by many other guests. My friend and I were booked into Hotel Girasole by our tour operator, Citalia. Although we have travelled extensively over the past ten years, this was the first holiday we felt we had no choice but to cut short. We requested to be moved to alternative accommodation but were advised by Citalia that this would incur additional costs of over £2,000, or we could find our own accommodation.Having already paid £4,600 for this holiday, we were not in a position to make any further payment, and as two elderly travellers, we also did not feel safe wandering the streets of Sorrento late at night, to find somewhere else to stay. The situation caused us considerable stress, and as a result, we stayed only one night before returning home on the earliest available flight.Although our booking was half board, we chose not to eat at the hotel. The accommodation did not meet our expectations for either cleanliness or comfort. After raising our concerns, a member of the housekeeping staff insisted that we had been allocated one of the hotel’s better rooms. This was particularly distressing given the condition of the room and the fact that our long-anticipated trip to Sorrento was effectively ruined.Hotel Girasole is dated and situated on a very busy main road. The constant traffic noise and fumes were overwhelming, and the narrow pavement made walking to nearby restaurants uncomfortable and unsafe. In our opinion, this location is not suitable for families with young children. The room itself had visible dirt in the corners, a shower room we found unhygienic, and extremely limited space around the toilet, which could only be used by sitting sideways. There was minimal bedding and only one electrical socket. Overall, the standard fell far below what we expected given the overall cost of our trip. We share this review in the hope that others do not make the same mistake we did.

    Lovely hotel to stay in.

    rating07 Jan 2026

Stayed at this hotel for 11 nights last July and had a lovely time. Most of the staff seem to be related and were very friendly and helpful. We had a problem with the shower and they moved us straight away, no hassle. The front of the hotel isn't particularly outstanding and the roads are a danger due to erratic scooter riders but once you go in, the lounge, patio and pool areas are really nice and very clean. We didn't eat in every night, as we wanted to explore Sorrento night life, but the nights we did the food was very good. We paid half board which included all evening meals but chose to eat out some nights. We had rooms at the back so it was very quiet. Lovely hotel to relax in and enjoy the atmosphere. Have booked to stay there again this July, can't wait.

    It was ok

    rating21 Oct 2025

It was ok. Top tip: make sure you ask for a room with a sea view otherwise you will be on the road side which is most unpleasant, dirty and smelly from all the cars, scooters and motorbikes. They charge €150 for that "upgrade" but if you want any sleep, it's a must. Cheeky to charge that, but a week without sleep wasn't an option. Other friends staying there had ants on the lower floors so we opted for the third floor. It's basic but comfortable enough. Food is ok, evening meals are quite small portions though. It's a good half hour walk into Sorrento which is lovely, but along quite treacherous roads where drivers don't obey traffic signs or you crossing at a crosswalk. Beware. The pool is unheated so needs to be very warm weather to want to go in! There is only one plug in outlet per room so charging multiple items at once could be a problem. Would we stay there again? Probably not.

    Pleasant stay

    rating15 Oct 2025

It's hard not to love this place. We were on a package our, as I suspect most guests are. First impressions weren't great - the rooms were small and very dated, bathroom tiny. Dinner was from a set menu chosen at breakfast time and only served between 7 -8 pm. Location is on THE main road, it's a good 20-30 mins walk from town and it's not a pleasant walk - apparently pavements and pedestrian priority are not factors in city planning around here. But then you see the rest of it - the huge bar area and restaurant, the stunning garden area and the pool with its own bar, all surrounded by lemon trees.... Maybe the room and location didn't matter so much. The room was clean, had a balcony, fridge, air conditioning and wifi all of which worked.Even the set dinner, as it turned out, was a choice of four starters, four mains and two desserts and it changed every day, which is plenty of choice really, and pre-selection meant there were no delays or mistakes. The food itself was, I'd say, variable - mostly tasty traditionally-cooked dishes, but some not too fresh, unimaginative and nothing instagrammable. But the service was impeccable; the staff were so friendly and helpful, and plenty were around when needed and the bar prices frankly incredible - ten Euros for the house wine! When relaxing in the communal areas you could easily be in a 5-star hotel but without having to worry about the drinks and food prices!

A lovely family run hotel where all staff make you feel welcome & special. Very clean everywhere. Great location for trains, buses, shops & bars. Excellent prices for food & drink in the hotel. 100% recommend this hotel. The young barman remembers your drink ;-).
