    Great experience

Sant' Agnello is around a 25 minute walk from the centre of Sorrento with taxis costing 25 euros If you want to stay somewhere quieter it is a good choice. We had a large corner room , big enough for a family of 3. It was very clean and comfortable with a kettle/tea/coffee provided - decor is a little plain but the view is wonderful. There was a nice bathroom with shower. Outside there is a lovely swimming pool area and the terrace restaurant has no traffic and wonderful views of the bay and Vesuvius; it serves excellent food. The staff are exceptional - very professional and helpful. I would stay there again.

We only came for coffee and a view of the sea but it was lovely. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. Most of the people on the terrace were Italian.

    Far from the madding crowd....

    rating10 May 2026

This is a hotel with few ‘frills’. There is no welcome drink or complimentary bottle of wine waiting in the room. There is no fancy coffee machine or ’turn down’ service in the evening. There is no spa, no gym and there is no mucic or activities to keep you entertained. But we didn’t give this hotel 5 stars for what it isn’t. We gave it 5 stars because of what it is : a fabulous, small, family run hotel with impeccable, friendly service, a first-class restaurant and in a great location with stunning views over the Bay of Naples, Mount Versuvius in the background. There was a good first impression. We arrived quite late at 9.20 pm on a Sunday. We hadn’t eaten and didn’t expect to. The restaurant closed at 9.30 and we could see that diners had long departed and the staff were clearing away. We were though asked if we wanted something to eat and were presented with the full menu and we were encouraged to choose what we wanted. We then enjoyed a main course, al fresco, overlooking the Bay. I don’t know of many places that would have put themselves out like that. There are just 19 rooms over 3 floors and we booked a junior suite which was basically just a very big, comfortable and spotlessly clean room with a great view. Just 2 of the rooms have balconies and the one on the second floor looks particularly appealing. There’s a team of about 24 or 25 staff and they all seemed really together and engaged with making the hotel a relaxing place to be. There was always someone on hand to serve you coffee, lunch, drinks or whatever you wanted. Gabrielle and Paola on reception, family members, were really helpful in recommending local restaurants (which were very good) and other things to do.Breakfast is a quirky affair in the basement of the hotel but still commanding that uplifting Naples Bay view. There’s plenty of choice and it’s made all the more agreeable by the friendly service of Simona and Rossella. We ate really well on our week long stay on the Amalfi Coast but nowhere better than the hotel’s own restaurant, Paravisiello. It was never our intention but we ended up eating there 4 times during our stay and every meal was superb. The dining experience is expertly marshalled by Tony, a real charmer, and there’s another Tony who looks after the bar area who poured and predicted our drinks even before we’d asked for them. The hotel is about a 25 minute walk from the centre of Sorrento. It’s a bit of a busy, noisy trek but it’s necessary to catch the boats to Capri, Ischia, Positano and other Amalfi Coast ‘must do’s’. Sorrento is a bit ‘urgent’ and chaotic so the peace, serenity and calm of the hotel once you get back is one of its biggest assets. It’s worth the walk. Far from the madding crowd. There’s a lovely, quiet, never busy, pool area, a small terrace and rose garden and the interior of the hotel is stylish and very comfortable. So, there are few ‘frills’ but what Villa Garden does spectacularly well is get the basics of a hotel absolutely spot on : great rooms, top location with breathtaking views, plenty of areas to relax, a top class restaurant and, above all, outstanding, friendly, unpretentious service. Who needs more than that ? Paola Gargiulo, Direttore generale at Hotel Villa Garden, responded to this review Thanks so much for your feedback from all our staff!Looking forward to seeing you again soon !Gabriella
