Bijou rooms, modern minimalist interior design and friendly staff

    rating15 Mar 2026

A nice hotel with friendly staff and minimalist interior design - liked the artwork and books which creates a welcoming space in a traditional city. We particularly enjoyed the space invaders! The ground floor rooms are compact with large beds and cute bathrooms looking out into courtyards . Great breakfast as well.

Minimalist, artsy, super comfy stay with cozy rooms and a deep, dreamy bath — perfect for a cool Kyoto escape.

A Cozy Slice of Cool in Kyoto 🍵🛌We stayed at Anterooms for three nights and left feeling like we’d just vacationed inside a minimalist art gallery curated by a very hip Zen monk.Yes, the rooms are small—but in a delightfully efficient, capsule-of-calm kind of way. The bed is basically a big, marshmallowy mattress on the floor, which felt like a sleepover for grownups (in the best possible way). We practically rolled from the bed to the bath, which, though compact, is a deep, steamy little cocoon of bliss. Perfect after a long day temple-trekking and noodle-slurping.The whole vibe is effortlessly cool without trying too hard. Think concrete chic meets Kyoto soul. Would we stay here again? In a heartbeat. Just maybe bring a suitcase you can maneuver ninja-style.

Artful and modern hotel with spacious rooms and well located for easy access to the rest of Kyoto.

A really cosy and pleasant experience at the Anteroom Hotel Kyoto. At first we were a bit tentative to book this hotel, given it is a little way out of the city centre. But it's only two stops on the subway, which is frequent and easy, as well as being located close to several bus routes that can take you to other parts of the city quickly. Taxi service quick and efficient too. The rooms are spacious, and as we had a garden room the outlook was very relaxing and pleasing. The common areas are comfortable and welcoming, and the bar area is great for a drink after a busy day sight seeing or night out. I would definitely recommend staying here for your trip to Kyoto!

    Get the Breakfast!!!

    rating04 Apr 2025

We loved our stay here. We were here for 5 nights, and checkin was easy. Staff were really nice and always greeted us when we left for the day or on our return. The room was quite large (for Japanese standards). We had a lovely view from the 9th floor. There is a desk with bath salts which you can add various scents to (these were fantastic after long days of walking). The hotel is a small walk from a train station.Breakfast is an extra cost but so worth it. They have what they call sandwiches which they change up every day. Absolutely delicious. These are handed to you as you enter, then you help yourself to the buffet. A bar is on site but we never used it.There are combinis nearby and a coffee shop on the way to the train station. We would recommend Hotel Anteroom Kyoto and will return.

    Ghost town

    rating02 Feb 2025

Im still here and stuck for two weeks. Had to pay up front as I booked through wotif , whilst the entry is artistic , the single rooms are crap one power point for hair dryer, kettle and charging station. They are too lousy to supply any coffee and sugar just two bags of herbal tea. The area has a very low vibe I mean I got anxious just walking up the street it feels like a ghost town. The breakfast here though is really good and the bar and social area is nice but again a very flat and low vibration. Yuk !!! The location however allows access to two train stations and city buses just around the can’t on the Main Street and a bigger bus terminal at Kujo station other then that I would never stay here again it’s worse then a hostel. Just dead.
